Coming from a punk and grunge rocker, can someone either send me a link or tell me about about what it would sound like if I were to put some distortion on it, or maybe plug it in to a Fuzz pedal?
best compressor i've ever used, and the only one i've ever liked - although i'm sure i'd like the empress compressor also. however, i've discovered that i don't really like compression, haha.
It's intended by guitarists to give you more sustain without adding distortion, or ideally, anything at all assuming you like your tone. The kind of "squashed" sound you get as you increase compression is exactly that--the result of more compression. Technically speaking, the highest volumes are kept where they are, and the lowest ones are brought to the same level as the highest...or something like that haha.
@dreamofways - Close. The highest peaks are brought down and the lowest are brought up, to average out the overall levels. If you kick on your compressor with the level set at unity gain, then your signal will initially sound quieter due to the squashed peaks. This is why compressors "makeup gain" knobs.
@ProGuitarShopDemos what compressors would you recommend for delay reverborator type swells....ambient sounds .....this seems good...are there others?
Great demo as usual Andy. You have saved me countless hours and dollars in buying and testing pedals. However, one pedal I would like to see demo'd is the Demeter Compulator. Any chance of doing it in the near future?
I just got the bass version of it. At first, I did not noticed a big difference, but after playing for a while, it became obvious how great this pedal was..the tone was rounder, fatter and and not colored at all, this thing will sound fantastic in a live mix, great pedal.
Compressors really have to be heard in person if you are going to choose between two of them. Its really hard to make a good compressor-buy based on Youtube videos. Its all subjective anyway - some will say, this and others that - but hey, they are both really really nice companies and I'm sure you won't be let down either way.
Thanks for replying to questions on these! You're doing incredible product videos here and that we the customer/player get responses to is a pretty big reason to do business with PGS! Cheers!
The only thing that bothers me when it comes to compression and single coils is that it almost takes away from the chime and snappy response you purchased a strat or tele for in the first place... It almost gives a tele a Semi - or hollow body sound which isn't necessarly bad. it gives you two guitar sounds in one instrument.
I've got this, and it absolutely rox. The only thing I've found that comes close is the Philosopher's Tone. And Diamond are truly kings among men - awesome folks to deal with.
you'd probably want the eq for that. i have the sbm, too. i don't understand why you bought it if you didn't like it, because it was made to BE fuzzy (thus the name fuzz pedal)
i didnt buy it my dad had it and never used it so he let me have it. Its the closest to distortion i have right now. thanks for your suggestion though
i'd rather invest in a different distortion instead of nd eq or comressor. Those things are to perfectonise your tone, not to fix flaws. Keep the muff though, everyone should have one and you're definitly one day gonna need it. Try looking for H.B.E powerscreamers or doomsday devices, those things are awesome.
A compressor basically evens out all dynamics. All softer pick attacks are brought up and all harder attacks are limited to relatively the same output level.
Depending on the setting, some compressors can affect the tone. Sometimes making it bassy, but more frequently making it brittle. The tilt EQ in this case in addition the "high cut jumper" is used to compensate for this.
Ive had a Diamond compressor for about 10 months now. Absoloutely Beautiful. It just makes everything sound . er...better. Personally I dont go much for the Ross/Keeley sound, I much prefer the subtleties of the Diamond. The Eq really makes a difference. Buy one of these and you wont be dissapointed.
What are the chords played at 2:33? Anyone??? Thanks.

Could you do an A/B comparison between this Diamond compressor and the Rothwell Love Squeeze.
I have whittled down my choice between these two compressors.
Thanks

Hey Andy,
What voltage were you running the pedal at?
blueskidd96 2 years ago
9 volts. It can take up to 24v which I'm assuming would have enormous headroom!

pretty cool, 2nd Dead song I've heard from this guy, good taste. So far I like the Keeley best, but the "Sammich" for smoothness.

okay, question
i use a soviet big muff
sometimes the tones i get are a little too "fuzzy" or "crackly" for the music my band plays
would this pedal be able to smooth out the distortion from the big muff?
thanks
