Right you are, and some of Sony's fallout at this time effected Playstation 3's release, also a financial strain to Sony, but they can weather it I believe and come back strong. Dell as well has the opportunity to right it's wrongs I feel. They appear to be committed to fixing customer's relations.

I had a problem with my dell lastnight the battery was getting hot because i had it unpluged while doing high system load things like videogames the system shutdown and told me the battery was too hot. and it was so hot i couldnt put my hand on it.

Look Dell has had its ups and downs but over all it is not a bad company. They have good costumer service and tech support and my dell xpsm1710 has never exploded on me. the reason why so many dells exploded is because of sony so if you want to get all ticked off at a tech company scream at sony for macking such a cheep battery

Creating a dell market which cannt afford quality control, cannt afford research/development and cannt innovate the products. a DELL market domination means a future of crappy, slow, unrelible computers and banckrupcy to innovators.

What you call pushing for the cheapest possible manufacturing is a basic principle of free market economy called "quantity discount". DELL is the largest distributor of computers for private households so that they get some nice deals from Intel, Nvidia etc. I use a DELL laptop myself (as you surely don't) so I know that DELL doesn't deliver trash as you and others here claim. The opposite is the case.

I recently bought a DELL INSPIRON 9400 Laptop which, besides of the fact that it was 300€ cheaper than laptops with similar configurations from DELL's competitors, works very well. The battery doesn't get as hot as you guys claim, it's rather warm than hot, even when I reload it. I am very sattisfied with my DELL and I am also quite curious how many of you flamers posting gratuitous comments about DELL actually have a DELL computer yourself.

Dell just said they are asking all dell laptop users to send back the batteries to have it replaced. That is 4.1 Million laptop batteries. The problem is caused by Sony Li-Ion batteries which were used by Apple, HP as well. That's why there are some flaming apples as well. I would say the real fault is with Sony not with Dell.

My mates iPod Photo exploded in the glovebox of his car. I just heard a crackle then a puff of smoke, the iPod was totaled. Apple did replace it though, even though it was out of warranty with an iPod Video. I've had a good experience with Dell whilst in warranty - they don't want to know out of warranty though, but that's the norm.

Do a google search for "apple battery fire" and see how wrong you are. There are DOZENS of stories about apple batteries catching fire, which is statistically more significant given the comparatively low number of laptops Apple has sold. I love the fact that Apple users are so insecure about their computers that they have to turn an exploding Dell battery incident into a Mac vs. PC arguement. Typical...it's one of the many reasons I abandoned Macs after 10 years of devotion to the platform.
