@missiceblast But it's not a false name. It's a stage name. And wouldn't changing that stage name, make Yasiin a false identity. He is Mos Def. That is the name that people have known him by for nearly two decades. Anyone can guess why he would do it. I can't think of one possible reason. He isn't changing his birth-name to Yasiin. It's just Mos Def. Still love him, but I just don't get it

@tinjarir I don't know if i would call it egomania, he was a very humble and gracious person on stage and didn't come off at all like that. It would make sense to me that after performing under a stage name for so many years that something can happen to your identity and after you have arrived at a revelation, be it personal, spiritual, professional, maybe the honest thing for him to do for himself was to use his name that he feels comfortable in.

I don't get why he would change his name. Mos Def is a legend. "Mos Def" is a legend. A name isn't something you can just change after 15 years. Your identity is just that. It identifies you. If you a Mos Def fan, would you pick up the Yasiin album? I love Mos and I know he had his reasons, but he shouldn't go through with this. He says his name in most of his songs. He has an album with his name in the title. What's he gonna do with all of that

I guess he's legally changing his name from Dante to Yassin. Why doesn't he just go as Dante for acting and Mos for music? Hopefully this doesn't become a thing where every few years he has a new name.

@jjdabaddes I believe that he was born with that name, but perhaps he's using a name he may have felt that wasn't marketable or someone influenced him to have a pseudonym for performing and now he's comfortable with it, I don't know the back story, all I know is that he shared this information with us at the concert, and it was a GREAT concert!
