  • He does look rather omnivorous.

  • The greatest thing about this performance is that Peter Ustinov actually could sing and here he was singing like a douchebag with no ear at all. And that is not easy to do. You do have to concentrate.

  • He does bad so good!

  • nero is cool

  • This is how nero sings, WOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBWOBOWOBWOBWOBWOB.

  • bravo mr peter ustinov es lo maximo

  • Thank you very much for Sharing!!!!!

What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!!! Keep up the good work. Have A Splendid Day!!!!

    A New Friend

  • I love Ustinov in this film, big perv!

  • Can't get much more hilariously and brilliantly camp than this in 1951! It's too bad he didn't do more animated stuff. He was brilliant in Robin Hood. Mother! *Sucks thumb*

  • HAIL NERO!!!

  • Nero- Magister Lyricvm

  • Nero was in Antium when the fire started According to Tacitus, upon hearing news of the fire, Nero rushed back to Rome to organize a relief effort, which he paid for from his own funds. After the fire, Nero opened his palaces to provide shelter for the homeless, and arranged for food supplies to be delivered in order to prevent starvation among the survivors.

  • ROMAN IDOL!

  • I love all the characters in this movie, especially Petronius...

I feel bad for Nero, he wasnt half as bad as he was portrayed.

And to hell with the heroinne of the movie, the empress is one piece of ass i would love to nail here :)

  • AMERICAN IDOL!

  • @bienenpabst I can allready see Simon Cowell being fed to the lions.

  • @lox12 you say it..."lionS" ...one alone couldnt do it!

  • Here are the lyrics: Oh Oh oh lambent flame oh oh oh force divine oh ominipotous power hail None is the swifter to bring destruction Yet carefree as a child Thou with wild breezes play The old Troy shall be no more because of thee Thou harvester that strips the soil for men to sow new crops Oh Oh oh lambent flame Oh Oh oh force divine Oh ominipotous power hail
  • Hahahahaha! the most hilarious movie moment of all times.

  • To narrow in the hips

  • Too narrow in the hips

  • Una de las más grandes actuaciones de todos los tiempos a cargo del inefable Peter Ustinov.

  • What a brilliant performance by the great Ustinov. Unrivalled after almost 60 years. To personate a maniac Nero that way requires intelligence. A play of features in an exemplary manner.

  • This is one of the most underrated films, in American Film History - I think Ustinov was robbed of an Academy Award, fer this (tho - NOT fer his "singing"!)...

  • Ustinov was great!

  • I am totally unprepared...yeah right ! LOL !

  • I find this hilarious for some reason

  • The best Nero in the History of cinema. When I read Suetonius "life of Nero" I see Ustinov's face. Wonderful actor.

  • Peter Ustinov as nero made this movie great!

  • "WOW".... Nero, what a ego maniac you were!

I think Ustinov is great and thanks for posting

  • The death of Petronius in this movie is like the best death one could have! hahaha his note was omnivorous!

  • I loved this actor!!!! So classic a performace!

  • @stationsvakt:

You posted this video, AND you posted lyrics. You are an awesome human being.

  • Sir Peter Ustinov here is Nero. So wonderful Acter.

He sings so sweet and lovely. The same like a Bird sings. Smile. So good.

  • I think I saw part of it on TV once. It was the part where he was talking to a woman and said something about him and her being gods. We thought partsof it were very funny and me and my friends tried to immitate him all evening

  • ustinov is the only reason for me to watch this movie

  • Sir Peter Ustinov als Nero in "Quo Vadis", ein echtes Erlebnis! Für mich die beste Rolle aller Zeiten!!!

  • I have to get a Lyre like that one...

  • Echt super einer meiner Lieblingsszenen aus dem Film quo Vadis

  • I remember seeing this film when i was 9 or 10, i loved it!

    I still do!

Peter Ustinov is brilliant as Nero!

  • Who is Pavarotti?

    Peter Ustionov rulz!

  • I LOVED this scene..even if I thought nero was such an asshole! :) wow.. I haven't seen this in about 20yrs and lord knows I've sung this damned song a couple hundred times in my life :)

  • I don't have any more information about it. Sorry.

  • Thank you very much for posting! And thanks VeritasEtSeveritas for the information.

Do you have any information on the piece Nero sing while Rome burns? Was it composed by Rozsa or is it ancient like this one? Thank you very much!

  • This is a really good song actually. It's got a good melody.

Nero is my favorite vocalist. haha. A bastard, but a good singer...haha

  • I don't speak english good enough to really hear just what he sings. If someone would be so kind to write down the words, I would be greatful. :-)

  • Oh, lambent flame

    Oh, force divine

    Oh, omnivorous power:

    Hail!

None is there swifter to bring destruction,

    Yet carefree as a child

    Thou with wild breezes playing

  • Thank you very much. :-)

  • @VeritasEtSeveritas it's "omnipotous power" (meaning "all-powerful", not ovniverous power :)

  • @Allocator2008 no it is omnivorous (not omnipotent), it's a joke within the film because earlier when nero is composing this very song petronius corrects nero and says omnipotent not omnivorous, and nero comes back and asks is "nomnipotent is better"

  • @cloismeg

it's so true!! I stumbled onto this film and couldn't get over this scene, the jokes within the film are a riot!!!! Peter Ustinov plays pathetic (amazingly)....

  • The old Troy shall be no more because of thee,

Thou harvester that strips the soil

For men to sow new crops

    Oh, lambent flames

    Oh, force divine

    Oh, omnivorous power

    Hail!

  • You could put the lyrics in the video description, along with the "Epitaph of Seikilos" musical reference ;)

The more we know, the better!!

  • The melody is taken from the Epitaph of Seikilos, the oldest piece of sheet music from Ancient Greece. Cool detail.

  • Thanks! That was new information to me. I have been wondering. :-)

  • darn! this woman who playes the unfatefull!! wife! of nero she was beautiful! to but allso dangeres!!! looking her looks make's me think of a black panter who is ready 2 strike! eeeeuuuui scarry cat looking eyes! who is she?? i dont know this actres?! does anny one know??:))

  • Patricia Laffan

  • stationsvakt/thanks!!:)

  • What a brilliant man. (Peter U. not Nero).

  • I Love Peter Ustinov, he is my favorite actor

  • Hahaha he's the one! XD

In fact, Nero could sing very well, but this film shows us the version of historian Suetonius, which hated Nero and make him a band singer in his histories.

  • Very true.

  • That's one theory. However, what is not a theory is the fact that for an Emperor to tour the Mediterranean basin singing to who would ever listen was most unusual.

  • This is CLASS! "My throat" LOL!

  • German synchro was equal at the VERY least, I`m now pretty sure he did it himself, he could speak German well, in Germany during his lifetime Ustinov was one of the most popular actors and his part as Nero is THE congenial classic

  • My throat...

  • Peter Ustinoff was a great actor...and perfect for this part

  • HAHAHAHA!! What comic relief!! I liked those parts when he sings!!

  • Peter Ustinov was great! I also loved Victor Mature. These biblical epics are wonderful and they sure don't make em like this anymore =(

  • so cool. only mr. Ustinov could do it this well!! so sardonic.!!

  • love that old tyme music

  • Peter Ustinov is such a genius but he can`t sing. lol

  • crushfreaky,

That is NO way to speak of your emperor.

  • That was the joke in the movie =)
