@DarkonMK In its current state, no. I would probably have to rewrite the entire song in MilkyTracker or something and import it via xm4smps or whatever it's called. It can't be that hard, but I've never really tried it. Besides, I never really hack Sonic games... It's fun for the first day or few, but then it just gets boring imo. :/ But thanks for asking. :)
What I don't understand is this: The people who originally made MD games MUST have had some sort of devkit with a tracker program. Why isn't that floating around the net? How did the original game makers make their music? maybe they just wrote their own programs...
How do you make some custom MegaDrive songs? I'd like to make some. Do you just need MIDI files of the particular song like when making custom 8-bit music?
@HumanDaikon I use a program called TFM Music Maker to make MegaDrive music. If you aren't familiar with music trackers, I recommend looking up a quick tutorial here on YouTube. There is a MegaDrive soundfont available too (check out RecFreeMedia's account for it). Personally I would rather use FamiTracker for custom 8-bit music, because GXSCC or whatever sounds nothing like it imo.
Sounds good. To use real DAC samples, you should use the Ultimate Megadrive Soundfont in FL Studio or Synthfont (if you have an alternate way of making midis). It contains many FM instruments made with TFM, along with DAC samples ripped from sonic games and other games. You can also use VOPM.
@RecFreeMedia Lol, believe it or not, I figured out just today a way to make my own custom drum tracks with minimal hassle using MilkyTracker and Audacity. I haven't really tried MIDI music much, but the next thing I'd like to make is XG-MIDI. Thanks for the tip, though. I have used Synthfont for extracting samples from SNES soundfonts, and from playing around a bit in it I have a general idea of how to make MIDI music with it.
Oh god I remember these photos, they were on Sonic's old website. Now many of these photos are a pain in the ass to find.
