I'm young, 14 years old, I am interested in buying a computer. It turns out my dad had a very old computer in our basement. I thought about what you said and I plan to invest my time into this opprotunity.
if you cant build your computer and have it set up in less than 4 hours you should just buy one unless you are interested in reducing your time. but if you know what you are doing buying a pre assembled computer is stupid. the parts are already have a warrantee. the only thing you get from buying a pre assembled unit with a warrantee are answers to questions that google already has. and as for mac osx, you can install it on ANY computer, there is no difference between pc and mac in that respect
Every built computer I've used/worked with has had near no problems, Bought ones on the other hand loads of them, yes they have a warranty but then you have to find the time to take it in then your without your PC for awhile, and after all that it still runs like a sack of potato's.
Ibuypower has a great pricing for their systems it seems. I customized on newegg a similar PC and it turned out to be almost exactly the same price. I even added a second 1 tb drive for a raid 0 configuration extra on the ibuypower one. The only difference is that the ibuypower one had 50 watts less.
I am looking to upgrade my pcs maybe 2 laptops and a netbook. I have a Dell 1525 it does not run as I thought it would even though I got it from future shop I am considering buying from Tiger Direct and have it shipped to me and pay a little more on it. my best desktop was from factory direct and a dell insiprionn 6000 since then i haven't found anything close. with streaming video and broadcasting webcam and now video editting I need something that can keep up
preconfigured will ALLWAYS have at least one useless component into it - otherwise prices explode - build it yourself - you are the only one who knows exactly what you want and most important what you need to use it for!
wow thats a nice computer, i planned to buy one and replace the graphics card, cuz they tend to make good computers with bad graphics cards and then make computers with good graphics cards with relatively the same specs for double the price. mine is:
intel i5 processor
4gb ram
500 gb hard drive
crappy ati mobility radeon hd 5470
its a laptop tho, so besides that graphics card its pretty good
Mine is actually a powercolor 4870, but I ran out of characters and had to delete a ton of text.
You have a better processor (more cores anyhow).
I don't remember hearing about a 4670 model (I hear 4350 and wahtever). I'm guessing your card is a good mid-range card (mine is pretty much a decent High-end one, one with great bang for buck, which is why I got it).
I built mine (NCIX to buy the parts). Did't have fun putting it together. Not good at that sort of thing (fooled by people who said it was actually pretty easy), It isn't the directions, so much as the process
when I built it, it worked right off the bat, and also didn't have preinstalled bloatware.
2.5GHz Core Duo
ATI 4870 512MB
4GB Ram (2x2GB)
500GB HDD
BenQ 1920x1080 monitor
Midsized Case
500Watt PSU
$1700 Canadian, not including shipping. But it plays any game on max at full resolution
I really liked your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed i use a site called Tubeviews . Net It has really done wonders for me, Keep in touch
Order a custom built computer from a non-household online vendor like Buyxg.comm or Ibuypower.comm. You order what you want and they put it together. You get a lot more computer for the money than any OEMs. The motherboard will be better (faster FSB), the RAM will be better (800mhz), you get better graphics cards, etc.....
Thanks for the alternative. I'm glad you suggested something like this rather than alienware. People should never consider alienware in this conversation. They are astronomically overpriced.
@iobuffa alienware is overrated, I like the case but that's about it. on paper I've got a system set up for about $500 that would rival $600-$700 big box store OEM computers (HP, Dell etc.) which when you build one (or custom order one from cyberpower and the like) it's not that hard to achieve that kind of performance.
@experimental0000 alienware has an excellent customer service system. that is what you pay for if you buy an alienware computer. that and a warrantee on overclocked systems. but yes its worthless to people who know how to work on computers.
my final advice is if you 13-30 and you have a weekend to put it together , than go for it , youll get a better computer and for MUCH better price.
if your 30+ and you really dont have much more energy or time to mess around with it dont bother, but than again ur gonna get a slower computer and ur gonna pay more.
good luck all
(if anyone needs some help getting some more reasorces on how to build message me)
I Built my computer, and honestly ill prob never buy another prebuilt one.
it is NOT at all as hard as you might think, go online and buy a good book on building it, skim it before you start , and then follow it step by step... it took me 4 hours to finish the computer.
the whole process will take a day or two.
its not worth the extra money.
My computer was $900 for all the parts, same comp on alienware was $3000 $2100 is not worth the ease of getting it done.
it was actually $200 more that I paid and that was 4 years ago. In today's market, it'll be much less. Like I said, some of us don't have the time to invest in building and are willing to pay more for a pre-built. And if you're considering alienware as a comparison, there's your problem.

it is not hard to build a mac, they run on intel architecture. you just need to make sure that the graphics card has drivers for mac.

AMD 6000+ (Dual Core) with Zalman CNPS9500-LED CPU Cooler
4GB Ram
8800gt 512mb (PNY Nvidia Graphics)
Asrock mobo
22" Acer Monitor
650watt Triple Fan psu
Vista 32 SP1
All built myself so any problems i know what to do with it.
If you know what you are doing i suggest build your own it's cheaper and gives you a certain satisfaction.
Btw my pc is cheap as chips now and still plays fallout 3,farcry 2,Bioshock,Stalker clear sky on full.
