@operadood If you mean the taal in the beginning it is Vilambit teental (16) slow - approximately 1 beat per second

@operadood it is based in a 16 beat taal called Teentaal. If you can't hear the Sarangi nagma you can figure that out from the compositions Zakirji is playing too (but you'd need to understand tabla for that of course :)

He is still the most legendary player of his generation else why would Swapanji, Kumarji, Nanayanji and almost all of the contemporary tabla players like Subhankarda, Bikramda would post Ustad-ji's photograph in their webpages or make a special mention. Nayanji refers him as one of the legends of his generation, Anindoji specially invited him to play for his 50th anniversary. Swapanji would refer to him as "the finest of artists", Kumarji would label the photograph as " a very special moment"

Where is the eternal armchair critic son-of-the-destroyer. I hope he is completely destroyed by Ustadji's performance this time. It is partly true that youtube does not have good collection Ustadji's top performances. But I could easily name atleast 10 good ones. Ustad-ji's another over-the-top work named "Energy" or "Urja" where heplays the core tradition of punjab and Lucknow is still missing in Youtube.

Ya.... No critic can question this Tabla master. The technique, the flow the humor and the CLARITY!!! No words to describe... Mann the kaydas he plays are so unique and have great rendering... I feel the Dha titta dha ttitta he played which is supposed to be the basic kayda is mind blowingly good and great to listen anytime. Hatts off to the GOD of Tabla :)

Been listening to a lot of other Tabla players recently (Anindo) as there are not a lot of good solo's by Zakir on YouTube. This recording just reconfirms that Ustad Zakir is in the Elite top 3 tabla players easily ! With this performance he can silence any critic. Dhere Dhere as relaxed as Anindo.....Now that is saying something.
