  • wonderful wonderful song

i think the footage of the blonde girl with the round glasses was used in the soul sacrifice footage as well (or vice versa)

  • Is this on the directors cut Woodstock film?? He's so good, what an amazing man, and he sounds a little like Robert Plant I think. But please someone let me know!

  • OMG. I remember when I got this dvd for x-mas I loved this performance. BUT HE WASINT LISTID ON THE DVD. so maddening. This is actually such a good song. you`d think with the hell the world is going through, this music would be back on top. No more rap and hip hop, just nice and soulfull music. What I would do to meet 14 year olds that listen `d to this:(

  • I like it "Jennifer means a river of love"

  • Why isn't this on iTunes? Where can I find it?

  • Love the song and the singer has a good voice, natural beauty(no make-up)and the lyrics have made Jennifer sound like a babe.

  • @theantithesis1 That is Jennifer Warnes in the crowd. I think it had rained earlier, so her hair is flat, but that's her. Supporting her friend Bert Sommer who was also appearing in the West Coast production of "Hair" with her.

  • aww i think im young in the wrong century:`(

  • @TheBigblackbrownbear It's a horrible feeling, isn't it? Haha.

  • wow i was name after this song <3 Jennifer

  • The reaction of the blonde girl towards the end of Bert's performance is actually used in the movie as a reaction to another song. I guess if Bert had been signed to Warner Bros instead of Capitol Records history would have recorded his Woodstock appearance differently.

  • The blond girl in the crowd they shoot near the end of the song bears a passing resemblance to Jennifer Warnes, whom Bert wrote this song for. I doubt if it's actually her. But it would be really cool if it was.

  • Why the hell isn't this guy famous? Seriously.

He kind of reminds me of Shannon Hoon, late lead singer for Blind Melon. Similar vibe and vocal range

  • I am embarrassed to say that I thought I was a 60s scholar and I only knew Bert Sommer by name but never saw this performance (shame on Warner Bros.) This is a mesmerizing song and his vocals are not only haunting but beautiful. I've listened to it at least 30x since I found it on YouTube a few days ago. He may be gone but not lost. This song just stays in your head like a happy dream!

  • How did he get haier like that? Well, that frozen smoke-like halo of hair you see was given out to cats like Dylan, Guthrie, Redding, Bert and a handful of talented people before God spited us with hairstraighteners, Lil wayne and the X factor.

  • xD my name is the title of this song xD i feel sooo special, even though its from 1969 :P

  • Can someone PLEASE tell me what Bert's strumming patter to this song is?

  • how did they get the hair like that????????

  • Good song, but he legit looks like a chick

  • I was a young boy of 18 when this was happening. I do not remember this fellow. Sad for me. His voice and message is moving. What was he all about?!

  • pause - load - play

  • ich wünscht ich wäre da gewesen und hätte es erleben können aber das wird leider immer nur ein traum bleiben

peace-love-freedom to all people all around the world

  • J'ADORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg i wish i had his hair!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I was 5 when this was filmed but I have a huge crush on the chick with the glasses.. :)

  • i wish the youth nowadays got togeather and had onother one of these.

  • @Music100Quality We had a "WoodStock" in the 90's, well lets just say i don't think were gonna have another one of those for a very long time.. People always have to ruin the good.

  • So great, I got goosbumps all over! The blond lady looks pretty much like somebody I know :)

  • fuck my generation

  • oh god. ear sex. but it was so so consensual.

  • 2:26 That girl is on Santana's Soul Sacrifice video

  • @venyogo2 yes i noticed the same thing

  • @venyogo2

All staged & stuffed with illuminati assets, even back then ... How many millennia does this really go back? How come Bert Sommer hardly got any exposure later on? These "stars" appear to always come from nowhere (no mention in Wiki where he was born) then disappear at a young age stricken by some sudden, strange disease. Woodstock, the perfect flesh-in-the-porn occasion to give the latest-bred puppet (de)generation of a completely hidden parallel society an outing.

  • The crowd are either stoned drunk or tripping balls .or a mix of the 3 :) great generation

  • IM SO IN LOVE

  • why did i miss this wonderfull age im born to late :(

  • Comment removed

  • im related to this guy

  • thats not on the special woodstock dvd ...

  • @CrysisEditorHelper it is on the 40th anniversary Rhino DVD only

  • CADA SEMANA TE PUBLICARE EN MI MURO.....I LOVE U BERT ♥♥ ♥♥

  • 2:26 HEY! Its Jennie!

    (as in Forest Gump)

  • god hes gentle and sweet...his song also...gotta show it my best gf...

  • si bert is a he...so is not a she?? O.o

  • Esta vieja si es una Wonderwall Bert Somer nunca te conocí pero que voz tan espectacular.

  • Wow! Pushing 50 and this is a first! Most wonderful!

  • he's the face and the voice of our generation - the generation fo peace and love - our generation. Maybe the young generation will find their own face and their onwn music - and be as happy as we were therefore!!!!!!!!

  • I believe he was left off the movie and the plaque as well because of some sort of record label issue.. He was not under Warner Brothers so WB did not want to have any conflict. Very stupid I know, but apparently in the near future a new Woodstock CD will come out with Bert Sommer on it.

  • when the chorus starts i always get goosegumps

  • Not only was Bert Sommer left off of the Woodstock film, but he was also left off of the plaque at the Woodstock site, which is a complete act of disrespect towards such a great musician.

  • @pinknick82 thats so sad and such a let down he killed it how come they didnt put him in?

  • @pinknick82 thats right ,, a great song this is

  • Feel proud of him, he was a great singer and great composer. his songs when he was singer in the left banke are amazing. listen "and Suddenly" and "Men are building sand".

  • Such a great song, such a beautiful voice too :)

  • This is very nice and lacking in the major documentary s of the event. I am certain he an old soul, missed by his family & friends.

  • This guy should have changed his name to suit him better. How about....,?.....,sunflower

or moonbeam? Huhmmm......can't think of one... Hummmmm ......,I GOT IT ! Air??...

Airhead yep, that's it. AIRHEAD! There now,

All better. Please pass the purple micro dot.

  • @Dyanderringer That was a really stupid comment.

  • @Dyanderringer I have a name that suits you. SHITHEAD! Because only someone with shit for brains would say something stupid and disrespectful like that. He done more in his short life than your loser-ass ever will.

  • when i first found out that I was related to him, i listened to it thinking it was robert plant. and yes, i knew who robert plant was at age 7. so i was like, "I THOUGHT YOU SAID HIS NAME WAS BERT!" Then when i saw the video, i totally see the resemblance. my whole family has huge hair.

  • 24 people have flat hair

  • THIS IS ANOTHER VIDEO ... WRITE ON YOUTUBE

    BERT SOMMER - Live 1971 !

    IS FANTASTIC

  • esta es una música hermosa. su voz te lleva a otro mundo donde hay paz, felicidad y una cantidad de amor libre. la letra es tan significativo a diferencia de la música de hoy.

  • If I'm not wrong,I've seen an interview of him where he was talking about his performance at Woodstock '69.He said that it was actually his first performance in front of an audience, especially so many people, like there. He made an album before Woodstock, and played in musical ''Hair''.But,apparently,it was the first time he was singing his own songs in front of an audience, and,he was nervous,as he said.Videos of him are rare, too bad,he should've been more famous. He was talented, and good looking.

  • @alhemicar091 Yes, that interview is on YT...I always loved his music, but when I saw his personality in that interview, I totally fell in love! He was so adorable and funny!

  • He was also a bit of an actor, yes, he originated the role of Wolf in hair and played Flatbush on the Kroft Supershow for the first season!

  • OH MY GOD THAT WAS A GUY!

  • This song was written about singer Jennifer Warnes, who was in the cast with Bert in the NYC production of "Hair". I would bet money that's bespectacled Jennifer herself at 1:48 and 2:00.

As for the performance: doesn't this guy remind you of Donovan or Marc Bolan?

  • hey toe jam she didnt do drugs ..she didnt even smoke ,,i,.

  • I'm from Ontario Canada and my family and I are on our way to visit the original concert site in Bethel next week.

Just found out from researching,,,,that Bert Sommer's name was left off the stone marker on the edge of the concert field.

I take that as a serious serious oversight. Ruined my trip there when I think about it.

That stone was placed sometime in the 90's as far as I understand. Too bad someone hadn't taken them to task before it was too late.

  • great ..peace,love,respect

  • Love that orange sunshine chick in the audience!!!

  • This is the most obviously "tripping" person footage or pic of all. She is gathering the soul & magic of Bert/music/the eternal moment. Was probobly the highlight of her life. Beautiful !

  • @TangleF50 I couldn't agree more....this spellbinding performance by Bert Sommer completely blew me away. He opened a ten-song set that Friday night at 8pm with "Jennifer", a set for which he received a standing ovation. According to one Woodstock attendee it was "the absolute highlight of the evening"!!

  • Bert Sommer is without doubt my favorite artist; I wish there was so more footage of him at Woodstock, because he was so great at what he did.

  • just dont make hair like that anymore

  • when you feel like you cant smoke anymore, smoke one more joint,slow....and then go too sleep

  • se me cae la baba..cada ves que veo a este hombre......el mejor para mi :o.....

  • j'aime !!!

  • What a beautiful and talented man. I've watched this a dozen times today at least...it's just so good.

  • @ruby8802 Woah !! I thought it was a woman! Such a beautiful face for a man.... and the voice :D

  • Beautiful number,fucking awesome voice

  • xoxRIP

  • Her name is Jennifer Warnes, not Warren. She can be seen in this video starting at 1:50

  • great song. the Blonde chick is also in Santana-Soul Sacrifice video at woodstock

  • lol I first thought that bert sommer was a woman...

    Anyway good song.

  • lleguemos al millon...este singer se lo mereceeeee :D

  • Like an American Tyrannosaurus Rex.

  • great song, and voice. <3

  • My name is Jennifer. <3

  • nice song but more jennifer juniper girl ) its my song

  • eu amo ele <3

  • did anyone else see the lady with the huge fro and the baby? cause that has to be the worlds coolest baby to be there!

  • I think, I just fell in love. oO :))))

  • This guy was drop dead beautiful.

  • Wow. I must say. I was here at Bert Sommer's looking for a peaceful, zenful, inner hippie moment of good vibe meditation. This is the last place on earth I expected to get into an argument with someone extolling the bad karma virtues of deliberate pain infliction through hitting children. DIDN'T BERT HAVE THE GREATEST BRACELET AT WOODSTOCK, THOUGH??? That silver cuff thing's gorgeous.

  • @zephranna01 That 'these kids today' are a bunch of lazy gutless slackers is the same myth perpetuated about EVERY current generation of youth. Current FBI records on juvenile crime prove you're wrong. Studies show that regions where kids are treated respectfully by adults have better education results than areas where corporal punishment is frequently applied. These are the facts, not opinions. Sorry.

  • I can't describe my love to bert sommer... How pity that I was born in 1991. There he was already in (jennifers) heaven.

Is anyone here who looks like and sounds like mr. sommer?!

    :D ...

I'm really in love with him. how mad and stupid it is..

However is this girl on 1:50 Jennifer Warnes who he sings about?

  • @zephranna01 The Woodstock generation's whole rebellion was specifically to change the world so that their kids and grandkids would have it easier and wouldn't have to put up with the authoritarian abuse they did, yet here you are implying that there should be a return to the very measures they rebelled against. Your views defeat the whole purpose of what they accomplished, and would only cause history to repeat itself.

  • immortal woodstock...

  • apart from all the acid mushies and dope this place would have been amazing

  • @SALVOTHESTONEDONE if they werent there it wouldn't have been this way

  • @TheGarryModder i was making a point if you cant tell by my name psychedellics are my favorite substances

  • Never know this artist before or seen this video.(now I'm a fan) Beautiful hippie feeling full with peace and love. I was born in a wrong decade..but I'm still forever hippie in my heart. Sweet song.<3

  • When I hear this song . . .I just want to grab my girl . . .

  • Epic hair. It should have its own ZIP code.

  • He is very beautiful!!! Bert Sommer has incredible voice and soul.

  • What is truly odd is that they cut him out of the movie altogether, but left the footage of Jennifer in!

  • and that is her in the audience

  • Jennifer .................is Jennifer Warren

  • after 1:24 !! i can't find the words!!!

  • woodstock 2019? Whos organizing a 50th anniversary festival?

  • superb voice

  • I think the Blonde In Glasses can also be seen grooving to Santana, later.

  • WonderFul!

  • pause - load - play - ENJOY

  • I was looking for the same old big names of Woodstock when I found this treasure. This music is amazing.

  • Bert Sommer is my grandpa's brother.my mothers name is margy sommer and my grandpa is bob sommer. for those of you who didnt know he existed, i didnt learn about him till i was halfway through my life. im 14 now. dont feel bad.

  • @cycleman88

half way through your life? is that a joke? or do you mean 41?

  • @Daltonn0810 no, i actually mean 14

  • @Daltonn0810 he means he found out at the age of 7 i suppose

  • @Daltonn0810 Real rockers die at 27.

  • @cycleman88 Wow dude you have some real history to share with your grandchildren one day, very cool. You have the opportunity to help carry on the legacy of the hippy generation.

  • @cycleman88 If I might ask, since I don't see anyone else asking, whatever became of him? Did he stay in music, go into another line of work....

  • @capttheo1 I believe he kept playing, but he wasnt offered any good deals or anything. then he passed eventually.

  • @cycleman88 That just seriously sucks canal water. He was GOOD!

  • @cycleman88 I love Bert....how lucky you are to be related. Im sure your family can tell you stories or whatever about him....I would love to hear them. So your grandpa and Bert are brothers....I believe he also had a sister or two and I know he had a son.

  • @cycleman88 i'm 54 now and i missed Woodstock by 31 years. i'm trying to do your maths.

  • @cycleman88 I played in the local pubs around Albany, NY in the early eighties. There was a fellow named Bert Sommer that ran in the same circuit. One in the same? He claimed to have played at Woodstock. I had heard that he had died. He and I were both big drinkers at the time.

  • Wow that is cool. I love this song and I wished it was on the original Woodstock video..This man has a great voice! It is sad that he died so young. Troy NY is close to where I live. I visited the Woodstock museum just 2 weeks ago. Where do you live cycleman?

  • Wonderful, amazing! You'll never find it again.

  • in response to polkadotpuss. just remember unfortunately bert sommer cannot reply to your comments. so i humbly suggest that until you can write or sing a song as good as this you shut the fuck up and keep your fashion comments to yourself, thank you.

  • <333

  • RIP Bert Sommer

  • I love Bert .....his voice is magical and I would of love to have known him

  • Great Song & Very Great VOICE!

  • How could i have missed this, first time i've heard it, OK I was only 10 at the time, but what a beautiful song, just when you think you've heard everything a gem like this appears. sometimes you see kids write on youtube about how they wish they'd been teenagers in the seventies, but i wish i'd been a teenager in the sixties.

  • @polkadotpuss i dont give a fuck about my appearance either why should you cater to the way the media wants you to look who cares what other people think opinions are like assholes....

  • @RcUniverseGuy lol wtg man, wtg

  • bonita tarde tuvo que ser...

primer dia del festival de woodstock 69

  • Where can I get this on vinyl????? Beautiful!

  • TOON X

  • Bert Sommer was in a book i recently read, and I found this video , He is my new favorite artist.

  • Fram 2.20 the blond haired chick is deff tripping her ovarys off. : ) of wait everybody was : ) man ...take me to woodstock!

  • great song. I never heard this before. truly should be on the radio today

  • this song is tremendous

  • I might be mistaken, but I guess the beautiful smiling girl is actually Jennifer Warnes. If you check out the website made for Bert Sommer, he had her in mind when he made the song and Jennifer Warnes did look a lot like this girl at the time. They both performed in Hair and it would make sense to focus on her in the film.

  • nice voice, good looking guy. song takes me to a place where im surrounded by nothing but severed testicles

  • where is she ? & don't nobody ask me who'm i'm talking abt - the soul sacrifice blond. do's anyone know her?

  • I'm ashamed to say Bert Sommer was completely unknown to me, despite this being up my alley, musically speaking, in every way imaginable: the era, the genre, etc. Wow. 'Sucks to learn through this gorgeous song/performance who he was AND THAT HE DIED only now. Thanks for posting.
