Rockingham Trackday - Yamaha FZR400

Mine was a 1987 model, personally though if your still looking for an FZR400 I'd hold out for an early 1990's one with the model designation 3TJ as they look better imo. I only bought this one as it was dead cheap which meant if I threw it down the track (which i did a couple of times) I could laugh about it and get the gaffer tape out rather than cry lol

Yes I do know what a flying lap is but really you have no idea about me. I do believe your spedo is in kph & yes I can go faster on 1 wheel I've had my R1 on one wheel at 135+ MPH.

What's been done to the bike? Seems fast for a 400 although the only time I've ridden a fzr400 I wasn't game to rev the motor past 8k(the motor in it sounded like a box of loose bolts!).

It wasn't anything special, just a normal MiniDV camera from JVC GS-something in the mid price range about 3 or 4 years ago. Unfortunately it bust on the way to the Ring last June so now I'm going to use my samsung SD camera thats does 640x480 @30fps and got some pretty good shots from the TT this week but haven't test mounted it yet. The key is mounting the camera well, I use a tank mount from EVOTECH-PERFORMANCE (on ebay uk) which give the camera a nice stable platform. Hope this helps

i need some advice on 400cc sports bikes! Im about to buy my first one but dont know which one i want to get. Its between the zxr, gsxr, fzr, vfr and cbr. Im 6"1 so would prefer one of the taller ones but would also like one with a bit of a punch. Anyone got any advice? Thanks

Just to restate what I mentioned months ago, the speedo is in KPH as most 400's are Grey Imports in the UK, but if you look carefully you'll probably be able to make out the MPH overlay stickers on the speedos glass. Its not all about speed, its braking and cornering that counts most so its nice to be able to keep and occasionally pass bikes with upto 2.5 times the power :=D

That's a lovely lap. Smooth, greta throttle control, apexes hit and you can see the chasis is loaded up in some of the corners. 400 will never be quick down the straights but you can see why they are fun to ride.

If you want to convert KPH to MPH you times the KPH by 5 then divide by 8.Witch means if he was doing 150 KPH then that works out to 93 MPH flat out! I don`t think so I had a GSXR400 and that would do 140 MPH flat out.

It's KPH. There are only one set of figures on the dial. A UK bike would have mph and kph, this is probably an import. And there is no way this bike would accelerate this quickly to anywhere near that speed if it was mph.
