Nationally, 50 per cent of all recorded deaths were of children aged five and under. Figures for Witheridge were somewhat better with 31 percent in the 1820. However, the children were at the mercy of diarrhoea, whooping cough, croup, smallpox and measles, with measles being a major killer at this time.
This isnt creepy...just a little sad that these were the only pictures that most had of their loved ones........beautiful video...thankyou ...x kirstie x
Momento Mori is the term for it which is latin for (literally) "Remember you will die"...it was huge in the 1800's and early 1900's when the rise of spiritualism, mediums, and psychics was flourishing.
Victorian fad, popular for a while. When a loved one died, you would take a family portrait with them to remember them in the future. So yes. There are real dead people and live people in the photos. Super creepy. It is called Post Mortem Victorian Photography.

3:51 is extremely haunting. The wide vacant stare... *chills* I wonder what half of them died of?

How can you tell that are all post mortem. Some are obvious - others, especially in the group photos have me fooled. How

Very sad that for some, this was the only photo ever taken. I still have some from my family.
