The "Battle Step" of the Battle Phase consist of two sub-steps. The first sub-step is "Attack Declaration." The second sub-step is "Before Damage Step." If "Necro Gardna" is activated anytime during the "Battle Step," it will negate that attack.

@SSCyrus That is incorrect....That is only the case if "Necro Gardna" is activated before an attack is declared. "Necro Gardna" does not need to respond to an attack (unlike "Mirror Force" etc.). Because of this, "Necro Gardna" can be activated as late as "Before Damage Step" and still negate the current attack. This is an official ruling and not just an opinion. It has been this way since "Necro Gardna" was released.

one thing tho. matt was incorrect on the necro gardna point.

necro gardna is a spell speed 2 and can be activated after the attack declaration, during the 'before damage step.' so dale could have most definitely chained his necro to matt's enemy controller.

@illusion959 spell speed 2 means nothing for necro gardna, if he would have let the atk go through with no response, then gardna has missed the timing to negate the declared atk. Yes, he could chain Necro in response to the activation of Controller, however the atk has already been declared and priority passed, so Gardna's effect would negate a following atk (if any) not the current atk.

@illusion959 It's true that Gardna can be used at any time during your opponent's turn, but depending on where and when different rules apply. Gladiator beast are very tricky in that manner. Double Honest is such a jew move...that's why I love him :P

@DarkDragonphoenix @SSCyrus : Everything i have posted is 100% correct. first you cannot chain to an attack; you respond to an attack. second, "Necro Gardna" works nothing like "Battle Fader." They are not even the same type of effect.

I suggest a reading of the individual rules and if you still have doubts, you should ask on Adjudication Conflagration or POJO and i will be perfectly happy to answer it there along with the other Judges (AC) or notable members (POJO? ha).
