ESP has the big names in metal....they obviously know whats good...i have a Viper myself and two Gibsons...the Viper is a 100FM, which is towards the back of the line price wise over the rest, but it can hold its own without faults along my Gibsons which are +1000 buck guitars

even the lowest model ESP or LTD is as good as high end rival companies

LTD is a year-make thing....up to and pre 2006 are the best because they widely used Aghatis wood, which is a mahagony family wood, which made the guitars sound fantastic...even the low end models and the old ESP 100 pickups had a great sound....the newer models of low end LTD's had a bad drop in quality since they moved the factory from Indonesia to China....if it says Made In China on the headstock, just put it down and walk away

I have an Epiphone that was made really well in China. It sounds great after 6 years of abuse and I'm really happy with it! Actually, I got it in Japan, home of ESP, but have yet to get my hands on a viper. Windstein raves about his.
