@RiiidgeRaacer I dunno. The creators of Silent Hill and Resident Evil say that this was the first survival horror type game that ever existed. Being you are one person in a horror setting with limited resourses to use. On it's own I'd largely call this game a beat 'em up since you rely on physical fighting most of the time.

Yeah, I also wouldn't call this a survival game. It's not like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, or even older stuff like Clock Tower or Sweet Home, which are true Survival Horror.

The arcade version looks sweet.its actually creepy ,has better graphics,and has sound effects from enemies.

OMG I WANT THIS! The white mask is ownage, the cleaver that you get so early on looks amazing, the level is more detailed and grittier, everything looks so much better. OH well.

......Maybe but they wouldnt let him be has cool has n Splatterhouse meaning no chainsaw's or shotgun's and all he does is a few lame looking punches if he was in SSBB. Plus imagine if kids wanted to play his game and mom's found out how gory it is O_O nintendo wouldnt risk somehting like that...but yes he would make a good character if they added the right moves and stuff...

well, there will be a lot of weapons (Rick's fists are good but a 2x4 or a baseball bat will be better for cracking those monsters open) and the damage sistems will pwn (if your arm is damaged enough they will start to show muscles, than bones and after that it is ripped from your body. at least the mask will regenarate that.

the purple thing is a mist. some theories presume that the programmers put several things into the game in order to keep people from taking too long on the machine without progressing through the game or dying and putting in more money. depending on how mong you wait on certain levels, the mist and/or blue orbs come out and kill you.

I don't remember the American version "quickly taken off arcades", I went quite frequently to arcades to play this when I was young. I don't remember any fuss being made over it at all.

I remember a fuss being made over it. I played it like crazy when I was young, too, but I do remember when it was pulled from some places. I'm not sure if it was just a rumor or not that the game was pulled for its violence, but this was back when we had games like Chiller in the arcades =)

Its hard to say, I like all 3 splatterhouse for their soundtracks, I like Splatterhouse 1 best for the graphics and difficulty and Splatterhouse 2 for one awsome soundtrack. All in all, a very difficult choice. Splatterhouse 3, although different, tickles my fency just as well

The Hell Mask (also know as the Terror Mask) was supposidly a ancient Aztec ritual mask. Dr.West was studying the mask, when he dissappeared.

I wish Namco would do a new Splatterhouse, showing what happened to Dr.West, and why the mansion is filled with monsters.

Basically, the house was owned by Dr.Herbert West.

Rick and Jennifer go to the house because they want to do research on Dr.West who mysterious dissappeared for their university paper.

Well, when they get to the house, it starts to rain, so they go inside.

The door shuts, and Jennifer is taken, while Rick is hit in the back of the head killing him.

The mask brings Rick back to life and gives him super strength, thus Rick goes to find Jennifer

There was no american intro, the Turbografx version had a cut intro that only showed the house, no scream, nothing. I have no experience with the american arcade version, so maybe you are right
