For all of you living between DC and Boston: Michael Reynolds will be doing a 3 day conference in Philly 4/17 to 4/19 on how to build these! Philly will be building the first official urban Earthship! check out the earthship website and search for philly
My wife and I have started a non-profit charitable trust to spearhead the self-sustainable housing initiative for low income and no income families. We are currently in the process of traveling the country to raise funds and increase awareness of this critical issue. After all, if you want to change the world you have to start from the bottom! We are grass-roots and really need all the support we can get at this time!
Yeah, i was wondering that too, just so i have a notion, how much does a custom earthship cost? the average, considering you'd put there a 4 people family. Any sights on the price? Cheers, great concept!
that's because Utah will be taken out by the new flood. They want to relocate to a place high above sea level. Think of Machu Picchu, It was a town run by holy men and women who wanted to preserve the human race from another disaster.
Interesting the Bolivia project was funded by Utah Mormons... I notice there don't seem to be any earthships in Utah.. correct? Have there been any attempted projects in Utah?
@grassjutube Papercrete or chalkpowder/hemp mixture,(green conrete, the properties of the hem are very good as a building paste alike to cemens but alot eco-friendlier!
@grassjutube yes you can, it's actually recommmended that you do since concrete is so damaging to the environment... just google earthship and you'll see it on their website :)
@grassjutube If you have concrete on the inside and think it's too rough and hard, when you mix the concrete, also mix in some sand/dirt and/or plaster. This way you'll still have the strength of concrete, but a softer texture. I'm living in Mongolia and there are some Mongolian style houses, which have vertical positioned logs, and they put this kind of mix on the outside and inside. Sand is less expensive than concrete.
This stuff is legend. 1st time I saw it on Wikipedia I was blown away.
@grassjutube concrete would be too industrialized and it withers when rain or the elements hit it causing a bunch of housing problems. Cob would be a beter solution.

Great idea and awsome homes and way of being green for our planet , but if this guy says "uh" anymore times than he does already nobody will understand what the hell he is talking about.

Yes the sound is a bit garbled in a few spots but it's a fine video anyway, and an awesome concept. I love my affordable and efficient condo but if I wanted to buy a house, this would be an awesome way to go.

But can i build it without using concrete??
grassjutube 3 years ago 12
I would think that in a dry climate you could use adobe mud.

@grassjutube
yep! at least very few i think ! you can use half tires to fill the empty spaces of the walls
and you can try nubian arch for the roof if it s not to wide
you willl always need concrete for the "bond-beam"
F0RD0Z 10 months ago
@grassjutube why?

@PCGamerPortal cos concrete isn't exactly earth friendly is it
