nice video. carlsbad always brought out the best in a rider. let's go back a bit further to CMC days. some of you guy's out there will remember these riders. like richard grafton on a twin shock yz 250 wide open up shifting doing the down hill. or rex staten battling w/mike hartwig. what about marty smith's first ride on a 73 125 elsinore. marty tripes on his bultaco feet up cruising (a half a lap ahead of 2nd place) around the track. tommy croft w/his chrome helmet. mark anderson on the Clews.
John tookey? Lol. Dont remember him. Jim chamberlain hauled ass there...thomason ran the track. Awesome track euros would shit their pants there. Ricky johnson was king there period.
Great posting!!! Loved seeing the footage of Carlsbad... I spent a lot of time racing with Frank and Myra and considered the place my second home... If you had raced there with Racing Enterprises Motocross in the 90's, I probably announced your moto... I will always look back on those days with a giant smile on my face!!! R.E.M. Forever!!! --and who the -F is John Tookey?!?!?!
Ahh I miss those days. I still have dreams that I'm doing a 40 minute moto and when I wake up I felt like I just was on the track. You probably announced my motos. Are you serious you don't know who John Tookey is?! He was a R.E.M. local for a looooong time. Really great guy, funny as shit that rode 500cc alot. Drove a customized trick grey Ford van. He usually parked at the lower parking lot. I always parked up on the hill with Fornash.
carlsbad is and frank thomason of Rem; and carlbad, hold a close place in my heart. what coulda, shoulda happen w/ my career w/ REM help ... we woulda been something... long live carlsbad!!!
