I think Hariharan is a singer most tabla players are comfortable with. Many times I thought Hariharan might go off beat when Ustad Zakir took the beats to the highest level but he didn't. I think Ustad Zakir saw that too that's probably why he didn't mind playing that way

I read many of the comments. I don't quite agree that Zakir did a 'bad' job of accompanying Hariharan. Do you know that a big deciding factor for people who attend concerts is who the tabla player is, accompanying the singer? Many of them attend concerts because they want to know that the tabla player is someone good, and who would do a lot of variations in the songs.

Hari jee what a melodious composition and very well executed. Tabla accompaniment is not suiting the mizaaj of this ghazal.But what ever was played, played masterly by a master. As much as i like Zakir as a solo drummer he completely ruined this ghazal experience for me. I could not appreciate the vocal as his tabla was too intrusive. Good examples are at 0:47-0:48 also 01:27-01:29.

The guy who said Zakir is a 'fitting' must for Hariharan is a real joker hahahahahhahahahaha.

I have also heard Ghazal accompanied by Tari Khan. He was brilliant in his old videos but in the recent ones he also seems to be trying to overpower the main vocalist.

I have taken lessons from both Tariji and Zakirji. They are both great players. However, I will admit that Tariji has accompanied lot more gazals and Zakirji has accompanied lot more instrumental music. 123.. may have a point that Tariji has more experience w gazals compared to Zakirji but unfortunately he/she does not have the vocabulary to express it correctly. More English language education might be helpful.
