First things first! Karl Wallenda didn't fall because of wind! He fell because another Wallenda was late to rig the wire. He told Karl he was going to be late. Karl said it was fine and him and some others rigged the wire. The wire rigging was NOT correct! There fore the wire moved to much under his feet. It was too loose AND THAT IS WHAT HAPEND! But that wire rope under his feet was a moving target. It moved as he sat down, it moved again when he tried to grab it. It looks like he had become exhausted from the effort of getting that far. He lurched down and sat and then tried to hook the support wire with his foot while his balance pole was tilting to far to recover.
I remember watching this on the 11:00 pm news with my Mother the day it happened. I can remember my Mom yelling, "Hold on, hold on" and I said, "Mom, he is already dead".

@pqwilrj If you notice at a lot of circus acts they don't use a safety net for the high wire act. I'm not sure why

It wasn't the wind, it was the misconnected guide ropes that caused the wire to be unsteady.

Probably should delay the walk when winds reach 30mph. This is was a stupid and easily preventable death.

Their website said some of the guywires holding the wire steady were not connected correctly. This made the wire start to move to much.

One of the unsettled things in my life was to see footage of Mr. Wallenda falling. Nik and Delilah Wallenda's success helps give me some peace about what Mr. Wallenda must have felt and known when he fell. RIP, Mr. Wallenda.

There is clearly something something wrong when he starts to go down. Dizzyness, possibly a light stroke. Putting an arm and a leg around the wire is easy, but not if you have lost all power.
Great way to die, doing your stuff. I'd like to go myself this way (not too early though :-)

He was old (mid 70s), so maybe he had a heart attack while doing it .. he was very experienced. People die at work all the time, it doesn't make him stupid. He has many achievements (google it) that have served to inspire, showing what a man can do if he puts his mind to it .. I'd like to know what you criticizers have done in your lives hiding in your rooms.

I remember something said back then about this, but not by whom. He was trying to sit down on the wire. That was the drill in that case, it was said. But that wire rope under his feet was a moving target. It moved as he sat down, it moved again when he tried to grab it. It looks like he had become exhausted from the effort of getting that far. He lurched down and sat and then tried to hook the support wire with his foot while his balance pole was tilting to far to recover.
