quick question. Could you just use a Fender bassman head amp alone?? Meaning if you only had the head amp could you still use it? or does it have to be plugged into the bottom amp thing? ((I don't know what the bottom thing is, really...))
@collareddove7 Nah you can't, the Fender bassman head is just an "amp". The head is JUST an amplifier - makes the guitar signal louder and that's all it does. You must plug it into a speaker (hence the big thing it sits on) so that the signal can turn into a sound i,e. beautiful music. What you're mixed up with are amps that are actually called "combos" (short for combination) which is the amp and speaker put it into one box. Hope that helps!
Buddy! That Bassman is a dripedge! These amps are extremely close to the Blackfaces. It's because the amp schematics didn't change much when the company was bought in '65 to late '68. The dripedge is the aluminum that falls along the sides of the grill cloth. That thing is something you should never, ever sell. It's a hidden treasure and it's got Blackface tone for half the price. You are a lucky guy.
@TrebleFiend I"ve never heard of it being referred to as a "dripedge" before. I knew it had that blackface circuit because I'm sure its a '67 or '68 and it's a silverface. But thanks for the knowledge and thanks for the praise :)
@tanguyen11 I'm in the market for a dripedge. I don't want to buy an overpriced Blackface and be too sentimental to play it. They're are such a good deal, it's a shame for what they sell for because of cosmetics. These are player amps, not a museum gallery, and once I get mine, I won't ever sell it. It's a secret that will stay in the family. :) Also, I'm thinking about getting the Vibro-King 2x12 cab. Two Celestion Vintage 30's and it's 4 ohms. That's just a perfect match for the bassman. Tone.
I haven't used the amp with the drummer yet and i guess it sorta depends on what effects you're using as well cuz they can help boost the amp. But I'd imagine if you want natural overdrive you need it at 4 so probably around 5-6 is oodles enough already. These amps really cut through.

THe room is fair dark so it mucks up the colour a bit. Rest assured, it will always be that traditional gretsch orange.

how loud do you have to turn it up to play with a loud drummer?
