to me that sounds more like 'discernment' which is essential as you say, and comes more from a place of empowerment. Judgement seems to come from a place of disempowerment or victimhood. Often the person doing the judging is feeling threatened by the other, or else they are projecting their own negative ego on the situation/person and deeming them 'bad' or inferior. Judgement is quite reactionary, whereas discernment is a highly tuned skill that is a crucial if one is to navigate effectively.
It sounds to me like you are using two different words with the same meanings but different connotations. I am not saying you are wrong I am just pointing out a problematic pattern in our verbal communication system. I appreciate your input.
Yes I do understand what you mean. However I think they are two different words with two different meanings. It helps to be clear and articulate what we truly mean...Judgement comes with less baggage than the word Discernment. Just an observation on how the two words make me feel. English is a precision instrument, so there really shouldn't be problems with our verbal communication if we chose the words that best reflect what we mean, and honour the nuances between words, avoiding confusion.
VERY well put! I should have been more clear about my issue with verbiage. Its not english that is the problem, it is the rampant misuse of it ;-) I do want to emphasize though that the point being made is more to do with addressing the very broad statement "we shouldn't judge" which makes people feel like they are walking on eggshells in regard to constructive criticism. It is creating a potentially problematic issue that encourages people to think that EVERYONE is correct without objectivity
Very good video & comments. The US school system certainly doesn't strengthen critical thinking skills. So I googled 'Critical Thinking' & I realized that I utilize it a lot more than I thought. Having a garden allows one to observe what works or doesn't, form an opinion, make changes & come to a conclusion as to what works in certain conditions. Being a business builder, consumer, parent, employee etc, all require various degrees of critical thinking. Eh, learn something new:)
Judging: This is why I struggle with fitting in to the vegan community. I find that, at least the most vocal vegans, tend to be judgmental about anyone not following the same path. The bible clearly discusses judging (understanding not everyone values the bible) in that we should not judge if we are committing the same sins. This can be applied as wisdom in life. A vegan may not be eating animals but most likely certainly is contributing to the destruction of animal life by their lifestyle.
One thing I find entertaining to do while grocery shopping is to look at someone in line when I'm about to check out, take a good look at their hygiene, dress, body shape, etc. and then form in my mind what I think they will have in the grocery cart and then check to see if I was right.
very interesting. Fine use of lawyer mind.I'd use the word diagnose instead of judging. In diagnosing there's no judging. Judging is like setting in the person's polarity and saying that we are absolutely right and our side of the polarity is the way tings should go. This is why I like diagnose and this is why today I may think like this and tomorrow i may think like you. Because i did not judge what you've just said, but I've accepted as your truth for the moment. Thank you for this video.
Diagnose means to examine in an attempt to classify specific characteristics. Judge means to form an opinion and decide upon critically.
For me, judgement, even though it has been given a negative connotation, is much more appropriate. You are deciding wether or not you would like to achieve certain results that you see and then you are studying what created those results in order to apply them in your own life. Thanks for the comment
Judgement is not just about right or wrong. It can be though if you think in black and white. Judgement is a personal issue. You are forming your opinions and thinking critically in an effort to create your own personal moral values and beliefs. Its about what FEELS "right" or "wrong" to you. If you impose those opinions on others then you have overstepped your bounds but that is not part of judgement. Like everything else it is only internal.
we have about 6 Billion people with different beliefs and feelings on this Planet and everyone is right.. from their own perspective. Sure, some things like ethical stuff, its worth to judge but important is to know that the being is ethical correct, the only thing what drifts people into negative are negative Identities... to best way would be just to accept everything... simply : it is like it is... but we are not ready for that yet..
You say being ethical is correct yet ethics are still just a matter of opinion. Everything is debatable. Nature is the only way to know what is truth, but that is still left up to the interpretation of the individual. We must think critically together with much communication and awareness and not impose our opinions on others or accept absolutes. We must only be concerned with ourselves. If we are happy and healthy we will create joy and health in our world.

your mood depends not only on your food.. there are several factors... the question about judging is, who is right and who is wrong?
