Trixiepixel has a windows machine and two linux

  • Linux games are improving: Some of these games would probably be passable in 1998.

  • These look like decent games.

  • I've noticed that all the free FPS games are all arena based

  • A true PC gamer they say runs Windows. Truth is, a TRUE PC Gamer, runs both WINDOWS and LINUX. Linux has its own set of great games, Windows will never have. And yeah, Windows has "monopolized" PC Gaming, as they always try to do with their every product, so yes you still need Windows. Such is a necessary evil.

  • Installing and uninstalling games in OS X is also pretty easy- drag into Applications folder to install (or anywhere else) drag to the trash to delete

  • first-person shooter i play sauerbraten it's very good :D

  • Did he mention that they're free through Synaptic Package Manager?

  • i really laughed hard on the XMOTO demo ... lol

  • haha "games with balls"

  • That's why I'm studying C++. I HATE OLD LOOKING GAMES!!!

  • there are games on linux and they are at least 10 years behind with technology. HAHA !

  • I am gonna have Linux installed on my PC in just a few hours I really want help on how to install these games when I am gonna be running Linux, is it so much more different from windows?

And on all of these First Person Shooters you intrduced can you create an internet server so you and your friends can play through the internet?

    Thank you :)

  • I really dont lke these games...

  • lol u suck at fps games xD

  • tremulous is the best game my favorite server is funserver cz

  • Isnt tremulus an clone of Natural Selection for Half-Life ?!

  • @Shagron1349

No, Tremulous and Natural Selection honestly are nothing alike. The only simularities is they are both aliens vs. marines. In my opinion Natural Selection is the better game; then again i'm biased because i've played Natural Selection since it became available. :P I run it using Wine. NONE of my PC's have Windows installed, i'm a dedicated 100% Linux user! :D

  • Just noting: Xmoto is an Elasto Mania clone and wall climbing in fps's has appeared in AVP already. Thanks for the video :)

  • the games on my mobile phone are so much better ^^

  • have you played chromium B.S.U.?, that's cool too.

  • u shull replace the guy from mtv that present games u rule :P

  • do you know where I can find future commercial linux game releases

  • @wuhlei

Try these sites for commercial linux games: tuxgames . com & linuxgamepublishing . com

  • I hate to be the pessimist, but I didn't see any good games. Xmoto, maybe, but you can play a game like it online. I have to be honest, when it comes to 3D games, Linux is about 10 to 12 years behind. I wish it were different because no one likes Windows, but if I want to play Crysis, COD4, or Stalker, I have to keep a Windows machine. :( Maybe if some developers would create a DirectX to OpenGL conversion API things could be different. Makes me wish I went into programming.

  • @Pepsifx357 Oh and don't tell me WINE works because it doesn't. Not one game have i tried that works.

  • Xmoto is lame and I find it hard to believe that anyone would find it addicting. The physics are interesting but it's impossible and frustrating game play outweighs that.

  • Thank you for this great tour of linux games. I've installed them all and put them to the test and WOW has linux development come a long way! Even my old p4 2.4 with 2 gigs ram and a 5 year old geforce feels current!!!

I've tried so many variants of linux over the years since the mid 90's and never really committed until I gave ubuntu a shot in version 9.04 (9.10 installed now) and I'm LOCKED IN! Everything I need it to do, all with ease! Ubuntu finally made linux a real feasible contender.

  • "Armagetron Advanced" is a great Tron remake its cool... and other great linux games are iBreakout2 , Hex-a-hop , FLTK Block Attack, Gweled, Kblocks... Plus the are game emulators like Stella the let you emulate Atari , nintendo, and PS games as well...

  • oh my gosh!! where is the best game with balls Enigma?

  • Ya know.... I love Linux. I really do. I wish everyone were using some variety of it, or at least was aware of how easy it's become to use.

However, the foothold Windows has right now is in games. Everyone is aware of this. Especially Microsoft. And as far as Linux games go... it's hard to complain about free...

but who the hell is naming these things? -_-

  • linux 4 life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow i didn't know linux waz so good i was messing around with linux on vmware 2 see if i would want to put on some old computers around the house and i think i'll give it a try

  • Savage2 is good also...

  • nevaball looks good :o ima download it now

  • What about Sauerbraten?! its way better than most of the FPS's shown (but not better than Warsow xDDD)

  • For some reason, XMoto remeber me of "Sonic the Hedgehog" o_O

  • Actually Quake 3 IS opensource, openarena is about 1:1 Quake 3 Source and appearead less than 24 hours after the q3-source was GPL'd (-->only the data was substituted). Also you could have mentioned legends and the spring-engine games.

PS: Like brainlicker1 noticed, tremulous is an opensource-clone of avp2.

  • XMOTO is also avaible for mac and Windows

  • No duh. Most games for linux are also available in Windows and Mac. They're open-source so you can make them work for other OS.

  • Actually, it's incredibly easy to install software on OS X. All you have to do is download an image file and put it in the apps folder.

  • avp.....climbing on walls.......im getting flashbacks=(

  • There really is no good linux games?, the only good one is quake wars.

  • savage 2 is pretty good

  • HoN is too...

there are lodes of good games that run nativly on GNU/Linux....

  • dpes savage 2 work in linux!°?!

  • do they need video card

  • interesting video,

commercial games are more about economies of scale on huge art projects (>100 manyears 70% art?) .. is there a way for the free sharing of opensource to compete with that (given that linux itself is vastly bigger)

analogous to asking if you could make an opensource *film*

i think linux is always going to be a better enviroment for programmers rather than end users (opensource is like information/labour exchange .. need to put time into filtering / adapting to your need)

  • see this new game for Linux, Hive Rise

    hiverise

  • hey man plz buy Enemy Territory Quake Wars on ebay and install it. i just bout if for 5 dollars. it was a major online game in 2007. and they have released a patch for it run on linux. have fun=]

  • Yeah; I like ET Quake Wars. We did a review of it. Please check out the rest of our videos so you can see. It got 10/10.

  • should make an annotation after you have showed us so much suck. :-)

The best game was released in 1999 according to you? Shoucking

  • good games , i wish it gives more linux game engines

  • Awesome video! Thanks!

  • Thank you Grespano.

  • Five Stars, keep the good work up. ;-)

  • Thanks!!!

  • yeh there are indeed good games in linux :D

    Teeworlds = awsome :D ^^

  • Never tried Teeworlds; thanks for the tip. Yeah, it's a big misconception about Linux... it's so untrue; there are a TON of great games on Linux, and I hope my videos have shown that, to some degree...

  • i tried some other games too but some games were too heavy for my shitty laptop :( :D (neverball/and that game with the fast car with the bar behind you to luck up the other car(not sure how it's called )

  • Thx a lot

  • :) My pleasure. Thanks for watching.

  • @category5tv How do you record your gameplay?

By the way, thanks for showing the library of games that Linux have.

  • hey i have a question i installed most of your games but my computer just wont play it and when i start one there is like copies of the screen the rest just wont even start when i play it

  • Thanks; and glad you've found it so. Not sure if you caught Part 1 or not, but please make sure you do... I just had to break it up because of YouTube's upload restrictions. Hope you enjoy some of the games!
