Stupid song, makes me cry every time. Heard it at a funeral of all places. Just cant get it out of my head, the loss of someone so sweet. I know thats not what the song is about, but I think it was meant to be from her to us, she committed suicide.....

Without Dolly's song, Whitney would be nobody. She'd be another artist known only in the U.S. mainly for her personal life. Dolly appreciates what Whitney did for it but she doesn't worship Whitney for HER song becoming so famous, worldwide. It's as special to her today as it was when she wrote it.

stardust your an idiot dolly wrote this ong wrote this song in 1973 for proter wagonner as her way of telling him goodbye. whitney didnt sing the song till the early nintys. duh look it up. but dolly is thakful of whitney redoing the song because she made lots of money off t too.

@jkcsdaddy - Nope was written by Dolly in 1973. She has told numerous interviewers over the years that she wrote it for her one-time partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, with whom she was having a business splitting at the time
