@tutozuluaga yeah I figured it out! make sure you hold the power button on THE TOP of the phone for 5 seconds while holding the back button, don't stop holding the back button or power button until you get a reaction from your cell!

Finally got it to work.  I was getting it wrong all the time. Step 4) Connect the usb cable to your computer. don't connect the mini usb to your phone yet, connect the cable to the computer FIRST

Then lastly, connect the mini usb to your phone while holding the back button and it will start updating.

@ayomiku Working perfectly to me. 1 step u must disconnect usb from ur phone. 2nd u need to off ur phone (do not switch on). after wait till 5 second.. u need to connect usb to ur phone at the same time u must hold the back key till green led(on the top screen) appears,. that all. good luck.

@9414492012 On the X10 for example it has more options and features, for example you get HD recording on the camera, you have the option to install more applications and games (there are more compatible applications/games with android 2.1 than android 1.6), you get 5 home screens instead of just 3, and many more new features. -Josh

Just upgraded to 2.1, and so far the features and interface are finally befitting a contemporary smartphone. This time next summer will probably see an upgrade to 2.3.

Hello there,

If your service provider is AT&T you won't be able to upgrade to android 2.1 until AT&T release the update. AT&T blocks many features in your phone when they buy it from the manufacturer that way they have control over your unit until the end of the contract.

One thing they can't do is stop you from flashing your phone and installing the original android OS without their "impoused" restrictions.

Hey, I read your guide on how to install the backup and restore but it doesn't make any since, it tells me I can't downlaod anything not from the market and your guide says to click settings and and uncheck the unknown souces box, but it only has that if you downlaod the backup and restore, all mine says is ok, it dosen't make any since. Also the PC comanion says my phone is already updated, but my firmware is still 1.6 none of your stuff is working right. I really need help please respond

lots of people make mistake when the get to the prepare option. listen to me because i did the same mistake, when it says that log off your phone than log it off than DO NOT log your phone and put the CABEL in to pc NOT in your phone than HOLD BACK key first than put you cabel in to your PHONE than you can get to the update option.

They would save them-selfs loads of time with wasted calls from disgruntled customers who are unable or do not understand how to do these updates.
