too much cymbal... I do like your version of it, though, and especially with the added voice of the conductor...I know it's a practice, but I like the voice in it. :)
The jazziness of this seems forced. Up until then the percussion seemed forced and entirely unnecessary. Brushes probably would have helped too for that matter.
Agreed! I wish everyone could see this. Catchy progression doesn't mean cool music outside of the pop world. Phillip Glass is in the same category as Jon Schmidt.
Philip glass is an amazing composer and has studied under some of the greatest composers. GTD13447 obviously has only heard about 4 or 5 of his pieces. being a performer i can assure you that alot of his pieces are incredibly technical and difficult to play. Although i have to say that the people in this video do ruin a good piece. ( the drums mainly ).
Bass alone was too much at times... Loved the Jazz break. And Philip Glass can create interesting pieces Examples are: "Heroes" and the "Low" Symphonies. Course who cares it's only Rock and Roll but I like it. Hahaha
I agree, but Philip Glass is not at all representative of anything that's good about classical music. He's a disgustingly pretentious hack who's never learned how to say no to his own self-gratifying impulses and his half-assed compositional choices. I would never lump him in with the loads of other excellent composers who made (and continue to make) 20th century classical music so amazing and unprecedented.

I agree. Philip Glass is a pathetic excuse for a composer. Any fool can do it. Pick four chords and make them roots (Not 1st inversion or 2nd inversion, that's too complicated). Then repeat over and over and over again...
Bingo. That's the big secret to his supposed musical genius. Simple chord progressions have plenty of dignity, yes, especially when you see how effective bands like the Beatles were with utilizing this to their advantage. Glass's stuff just sounds lifeless and about as forced as music can possibly get.

This music should never have been discovered. Terrible harmonies, no emotion and it just gets drummed into your head untill you want to cut your own head off.
I think that you believe that in order for music to be good, it aught to show off the composers technical ability. You forget that music is something people want to listen to, and most of the best songs are the ones that are kept simple. u might just be annoyed that this composition is way below the peak of your technical ability, but he came up with something a lot of people like. can you say the same?

I hope you guys know that post-rock bands all around the world out-compose Philip Glass in his own boring style, so this is really like watching a hackneyed post-rock band. If music is your life, you'd be better off doing anything besides this crap. Nobody in the video looks like they're having any fun at all and the jazz section has no vibe whatsoever.
Last I checked, 'comments' sections are places where people can criticize things. I'm not trying to start some kind of my-music-your-music cockfight here. I just think that you guys could be dedicating your musical abilities (which I'm not questioning) to music that's more dynamic than Philip Glass's. His work is just too damned emotionless and skeletal.
I don't think we can put all of Philip Glass's work in the same sack. This song specificly is not a good example of Philip Glass's music. It has a nice melody and I like it. What I mean is that I don't really care who is the composer and all the other stuff he did. I care about this one piece.

I find it to be quite a smooth transition from the original! It sounds like something Explosions in the Sky would do. Very nice :)

i disagree. i think the simple chords used to make up the song are catchy, but are in effect pretty mundane.

Haha. Where do you think post rock took its influence from? Classical music will always be a higher form of music than post-rock.
I actually dug the piece.

Rock came from more than classical music, it came from the blues, country, and Jazz.
