@Flaminggential I play viola and I wondered the same thing so I tried it. When you draw the bow across a string, the sound vibrates into the body. If you vibrate the body, you make the sound sound like vibrato. Hope that helps..

@MrJYTK du pre refers to Jacquelin du Pre arguably the greatest cellist of the 20th century and recorded what is considered the definitive version of the Elgar Cello Concerto. Unfortunately she had multiple sclerosis and died at an early age.
@shintosungod : I'm certain there are some different versions available on iTunes (though, I would have to say this is by far the best). There doesn't seem to be a CD available, but you can find DVD's on Amazon that include this performance ^^
By the way, I commend you for being concerned for the music industry, really.

I appreciate how hard it can be to get those double stops in tune at the very beginning, and Perlman just nails it perfectly. The rest is amazing, too.
Zukerman shows no emotions in his appearance in this piece unlike Perlman. But Zukerman plays so beautifully. If you watch Zukermans old violin playing videos, one can easily say he is an exceptional talent...and very expressive with his body. I am very impressed with both artists here. Nicely played and interpreted. Original melody is of course by Handels G minor Harpsichord suite, the last movement.
It is called ricochet, in which you bounce the bow across the string in one direction, therefore making a spicatto sound. It is used in Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Bazzini's La Ronde de Lutin
I got the sheet music. It doesn't look that hard, but the double stops can trip you up, and its virtually impossible to play like Perlman and Zimmerman!
Perlman and Zimmerman both blew me when I heard their passacaglias, and I really can't decide which I like better, without hearing perlman play it with a cello and Zimmerman playing it with a viola :)

when you are playing on an open string, you con vibrate the note one octave above and it will sound like you're vibrating the open string.

Great performance. I love the recording of this from the Israeli orchestra 60th anniversary gala concert.
This piece is a lot of fun, I'm working on the viola part right now. It's a great way to work on staccato and finger work in general.

It is called ricochet, in which you bounce the bow across the string in one direction, therefore making a spicatto sound. It is used in Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Bazzini's La Ronde de Lutin

I got the sheet music. It doesn't look that hard, but the double stops can trip you up, and its virtually impossible to play like Perlman and Zimmerman!

Perlman and Zimmerman both blew me when I heard their passacaglias, and I really can't decide which I like better, without hearing perlman play it with a cello and Zimmerman playing it with a viola :)
