  • PASSACAGLIA Is a type of dance

  • This IS amazing, but to be honest, in the last part, they are both like "yeah, we f***in play this and it's boring".... didn't like that part of playing that much. I prefer ?=Chiz5OEQ1zM

  • This is amazing :)

  • Itzhak has such a nice style, what I'd give to play like him..

  • amazing!

  • This is one of my favorite pieces to listen to, as well as to play, and this particular performance is the best ever! I think I have it on about 5 different VHS tapes, from when it was first aired on TV :-) Truly goes down in history!

  • WHAT IS PASSACAGLIA?

  • @MrRafaelamadeumilani wikipedia it :)

  • MUSIC IS SO BEAUTIFULL BECAUSE IS THE CONEXION WITH NATURE´S ENERGY!

  • Whoever disliked this video can not be thinking clearly...souch a beautiful sound. Emotions transferred in to art so beautifully.

  • @wildqpid or maybe they are trolls

  • No bullshit, I had this years superbowl party with Pinchas and his wife, just them, me and my parents. They're old family friends. If you want, I can upload a video of me playing the Telemann double viola concerto with him during the 4th quarter.

  • @122chucknorris you should. that would be so dope!

  • @122chucknorris Please upload that! Thank you.

  • @carvindc400 lol, no probs.

  • This is my favorite interpretation, love the soft improvs

  • This Passacaglia is an arrangement of Handel's Harpsichord Suite in G minor, HWV 432.

  • Dude! Wow! My friend and I should learn this piece

  • they look like brothers lol!

  • at 3:10 and 5:20 it sounds like an entire orchestra. They are the most flawless players ever! When you're that good it looks so effortless, but yet the sound coming out is so passionate and inspiring...

  • Am I the only one to think that Zukermann is sounding like a beautiful cello?

Anyway, excellent performance! They are truly the greatest of greatest!

  • @ragnaroz97 sounds like a beautiful viola. :)

  • It looks like playing a Klezmer... sad.

  • bloated heads...stop it. music shouldn't be boastful. if it's going to be like that I'd rather not listen. silence would be better. music's purity is not for egoistic fools.

  • It looks easy like breathing for them...

  • Probably the 8 ppl that hit the dislike buttom, did that 'cuz was jealous taht couldnt be there! lol its perfect!

    *--*

  • why isn't itzhak standing

  • @noddles3000 he has polio, He can only stand on crutches

  • @altaboy97 awww poor guy

  • Is it just me or do they look identical?

  • Im a violist to and i say you, what perlman is doing every time again is wonderfull, extrordinary.his feeling of the music is uncomprehensible for people that dont listen music every day!

    conclusion: perlman your fantastic!!!!

  • The reason this viola playing is so good is that Pinky is really a violinist! :P

  • the eight ppl who disliked this video are totally idiots

  • @fionashow007 noo the people who disliked this don't reall music when they hear it cause there to wraped up in nicki minaj, lil wayne and abunch of other people who make none sense songs that have no meaning

  • they are all geniuses!!!! wish i could play the viola as well as Zukerman does...

  • oh wait, is it just me or there's a bad note at 6:06?

  • looks so easy!!

    *Try*

    *Failed*

    Wow those two are gods!

  • Don't search for bad notes my friend . just listen the music. there is no perfection in music. That is why everything in our life is beautiful. If you don't to listen mistakes take a computer

  • @konstantleo Yes yes sorry I just happened to listen to that note :D This performance is priceless itself =)

  • I'm not even sure how it's possible to "dislike" this song. It's truly amazing to watch both of them play it. They make it look SO easy and effortless. And by having played this piece myself before, I know first hand that it is NOT easy!

  • 1:52-2:03

Relaxed, confident, emotionless face, but emotional playing...annnnnd...page turn.

    so good. just so good.

  • dinleyin : turkish rap game

  • They may own this piece, but it's kind of boring. Compared to some other performances, there is little fire, and seems a rather pedestrian reading.

  • sorry for being ignorant but zukerman seemed to be vibrating on nothing at 3:07. I don't play viola so I don't know. can anyone explain it to me?

  • @Flaminggential

when you are playing on an open string, you con vibrate the note one octave above and it will sound like you're vibrating the open string.

  • @drew17592 so same as violin...just it doesn't seem like he's pressing down on any of the strings n got me confused Thanks !

  • @Flaminggential wow you're right, he's not pressing any string, and he certainly isn't vibrating an octave above. I wonder why he did that...

  • @drew17592 Or you can use bow vibrato

  • @drew17592 you can also become a luthier and find a way to whammy bar the bridge :p

  • @drew17592 You can also play it on guitar and whammy bar it :)

  • @Flaminggential

Don't apologize for being ignorant! You are asking a question--you are trying to acquire more information to help you better understand something. This happens the be the best cure for ignorance...the world would be a much better place if more people realized that. Asking questions is a sign of intelligence, not stupidity!

  • @Flaminggential I play viola and I wondered the same thing so I tried it. When you draw the bow across a string, the sound vibrates into the body. If you vibrate the body, you make the sound sound like vibrato. Hope that helps..

  • @NerdicalHumour haha thanks a lot ! i play a bit viola myself but not any good

  • Love the contrast right at the end at 6:05. So little, but so pleasing to hear

  • 8 people know they'll never get to this level

  • G.F.Haendel retouched or transcripted or transposed or transformed piece of art : who knows where the original manuscripts are, from the Saxon-English master of the «Messiah» ?? Anybody knows about Johan Halvorsen ? What a nice Viola Mr Zukerman(what a name !) !!

  • Haendel retouched piece of art : who knows where the original manuscripts are, from the Saxon-English master of the «Messiah» ?? Halvorsen ? What a nice Viola Mr Zukerman(what a name !) !!

  • decided to play this song for fun. So Beautiful! They play it so well.

  • im playing this for viola and i cant get past measure 44 =\ much prctice and skill is needed

  • A privilege to listen to such virtuosity. Many thanks for posting.

  • o melhor dueto da historia dessa peça, concerteza esse mesmo acabou virando história...

  • 7 people broke their instruments trying to do this.

  • THey dont even have to try to get all of the right notes, they just focuse on making it perfect.

  • @MasterSharinganXD It's one of the variations on the theme, but I guess it kind of sounds like Palladio by Jenkins.

  • what were they playing before? mozart concertante?

  • i hope i can get tickets to zukermans concert this saturday!! so lucky that hes in my city conducting!

  • This is epic pwnage, if you people mind me phrasing it like that :P

  • so GOOD!

  • @pppsssssssss what/who is "du pre"??

  • @MrJYTK du pre refers to Jacquelin du Pre arguably the greatest cellist of the 20th century and recorded what is considered the definitive version of the Elgar Cello Concerto. Unfortunately she had multiple sclerosis and died at an early age.

  • @MrJYTK Jacqueline du Pré. Perhaps one of the greatest cellist of the 20th century.

  • i was thinking I want this song on my ipod, but i also want to contribute to the industry.. .where on earth to i abtain said music????

  • @shintosungod : I'm certain there are some different versions available on iTunes (though, I would have to say this is by far the best). There doesn't seem to be a CD available, but you can find DVD's on Amazon that include this performance ^^

By the way, I commend you for being concerned for the music industry, really.

    I'm sorry I couldn't have been of more help;;

  • its impressive how perlman immerses into the music!

  • What would you say if I tried this after nine months? Is it doable? I've been playing for seven years and have never had private lessons. I've always had a first violin spot.

  • WHY are their 7 dislike's??? like im trying to envision the kind of person who would genuinely dislike this duet.....

  • @shintosungod well, i didn't like that creepy asian guy behind zukerman so i disliked the video. :D

  • @shintosungod

You have no homeboys in Australia?

  • wasn't it originally written for violin and cello

  • @Morphae .. do you even know who "that fat guy" is..?

clearly not. before commenting on videos like these, please educate yourself first.

  • Comment removed

  • @Morphae : You're obligated to your own judgements, but it doesn't take "worship" to stop someone from insulting another.

  • I'm sorry if i offended you, i was not very happy with something at the time i posted both of those comments. Both have been trashed, so i hope we can get along and simply enjoy this awesome display of music.

  • @Morphae

If you're going to try to use the languange, you should also learn to avoid sticking

your foot in your mouth. Learn how to use elliptical sentences, for example, and

the use of ridiculously awkward phrases, as in "he is no more or less ersatz than you or me." "No more, nor any less . . . than you are, or I am, for that matter" might

be one bearable way out of this mess. Also, avoid "ersatz" like the plague. The

use of the very word is bogus. Your punctuation sucks, too.

  • I'm surprised you responded to those, considering that they're several months old. You really shouldn't be so asinine to someone when it doesn't really matter anyways. I deleted both comments, so i hope we can both act mature now. (=

  • @Morphae:

"fat guy" who flies his own private jet and doesn't play concerts for less than six figures haha.

  • A++++++++ played precisely and musically!!!!

    will watch again!!

  • AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++

  • fantastis......

  • Unbelievable . Never to be surpassed. Over the Years these guys gave me so

much in terms of feeling alive through their magnificent sound and temperament.

Disciplin together with true sentiment and guts . Thank You.

  • amazing

  • amazing

  • Great one I´m just trying to play it with my viola teacher at the moment it´s just great and has such a full, loud and just great viola sound, aaaaaaaaaaahhhh;D Just a great piece, played brilliantly by the two guys Perlman and Zukerman, who are really "playing" with this great piece of music!

Very much thanks for uploading this video!!!

  • great viola part

  • dang the crowd immediatly roars in applause xD beautiful performance :' ]

  • Outstanding, Pure, Excellent performance!!!

  • Absolutely OUTSTANDING!! "Every Good and Perfect GIFT comes from the Lord GOD Almighty.... Holy Bible" I have seen Pinchas Zukerman performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines some 30 years ago, He is a Brilliant Musician performing as Violinist and Violist" I have so much respect for Jewish musician, they are brilliant in their techniques and technicalities. Truly Gifted individuals no doubt! Shalom!!

  • Ой, как классно)

  • I want to buy the DVD of this! Could someone please please tell me where I can get it???????

Thank you so so so so much!

  • download it

  • @hflvx not sure, but I know that it was part of a string of performances held in Jeruselum during a music festival of some kind. Hope that helps!

  • @MrCelloman5

Thanks so much. I think I found it. It was played at the Huberman Festival in 1983.

  • so touching

  • A melancholy piece, yet so touching.

  • That was beautiful! and the public enjoyed it very much :-)

  • seems so easy for them

  • @CcCharlesW because it is..... this is all they know per-say. not saying they are dumb, but they take pride in every note they play.

  • @CcCharlesW it´s a "pabada" for them!!

  • I love how Perlman seems to be dancing at 2:18! So fun!

  • I hope in spring to do as well, good inspiration watching this video :)

  • damm Itzhak has such a sexy vibrato... I cant sustain mine. wat do i do?

  • ask your teacher, that's where the best advice comes form

  • That is so beatilful i enjoy sistematicaly this

  • Comment removed

  • It's so much fun watching the faces of the orchestra members. Check out the woman cellist at 4:43- she seems annoyed at something!

  • no one plays the passacaglia like these two.... just flawless every single time i see them do this... from 1983 all the way to now

  • love it love it love it love it yes!!!!!

  • I just conviced my girlfriend ... she was a fan of david garrett... till now -.-

  • Fantastic performance. There's a touching pathos in Perlman's playing.

  • @akroatis wats pathos?

  • "a style that has the power to evoke feelings". Fancy words are worth looking up!

  • ^

Dude you asked for a definition and he gave it to you, either take it or look it up yourself. I don't see any reason to be rude.

  • @kimisizer ty u made me realize my miscomprehension

  • @akroatis sorry lol i was too stupid to realize those words were the definition.

I thought u were criticising my choice of words.

  • No hard feelings! I should probably have pointed out clearly that I was giving a definition. Anyway, the music is still wonderful, and it's nice to share it in good company.

  • ftw (for the win)

  • my goodness... perhaps the best ever

  • this is brilliant! alexander markov and his dad also play this piece

  • great discovery about Handel (please). This version is the arrangement by Halvorsen.

  • this was composed by Georg Friedrich Händel :-D

  • Bela performace!!!

  • beautiful

  • epic

  • perlamn and zukerman own this piece like du pre owns elgar.

  • Even if you don't think that Du Pre is a good cellist, there is no denying her fame and renown, especially when it comes to the Elgar Concerto.

  • 6:05 zuckerman's entrance is soooo bangin

  • how did you do it that the link takes me to 6:05?

  • did you answer your own question

  • My Favorite music piece heaver: P The best duo Performas heaver!!!

  • Great performance. I love the recording of this from the Israeli orchestra 60th anniversary gala concert.

This piece is a lot of fun, I'm working on the viola part right now. It's a great way to work on staccato and finger work in general.

  • So Zukerman teaches at manhatten school of Music...well I think that narrows down the choices

  • i can't stop listening to this! it's purely divine. oh how i love perlman :)

  • Breathtaking

  • amo este desmadre

    music 4 my soul

  • magnifico ♥

  • One of the few pieces where the violin doesn't hog quite all the glory <- Bitter violist.

  • My friend said the same thing when she saw this vid! LOL

  • everyone who plays the violion or viola knows how great this is...amazing

  • if you know Biber, and this doesn't make you make you smile, you don't know how to.

  • I really love them

  • Que manera de tocar son unicos

  • increiblemnt hermoso y sorprendent son los mjores.....☻♀♪♪♪

  • they look so young again

  • I appreciate how hard it can be to get those double stops in tune at the very beginning, and Perlman just nails it perfectly. The rest is amazing, too.

  • is this in c minor?

  • i think it's in g minor

  • yeap u r right!

  • wonderful! but i prefer the cello playing it rather than viola, even though viola is gorgeous :)

  • me too!

  • woo! we are cool

  • hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • It is called ricochet, in which you bounce the bow across the string in one direction, therefore making a spicatto sound. It is used in Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Bazzini's La Ronde de Lutin

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks boys for showing everybody how it's done

SUPERB SUPERB SUPERB and fun too.

  • I'm playing this with my group class, we have some violas, so we thought it would be cool. I can't wait! Unfortunately it will never be this good. =]

Ah! I love this so much! Perlman ♥ The very best. Both of them.

  • This is too beautiful~~

  • I got the sheet music. It doesn't look that hard, but the double stops can trip you up, and its virtually impossible to play like Perlman and Zimmerman!

  • Perlman and Zimmerman both blew me when I heard their passacaglias, and I really can't decide which I like better, without hearing perlman play it with a cello and Zimmerman playing it with a viola :)

  • Zimmerman... eeeh... Zukerman? ;)

  • :o That's what i meant....
