Don't get it. Just install Windows, click the button that says activate, type an activation code... and that's it ! Never had a problem with Windows activation tool. NEVER ! Besides - every single game has activation code !
Apple let you be honest because you have costly hardware, that is over priced.
Activation is painless.. It's dam easy to call and get a authorized activation code for a system, if you have used your key to much (from re-installing) and was never once hard or treated badly.
I don't get how it's freaking hard, activation has never been hard if it's been legit copy.
Also apple doesn't trust users, since it's far more restrictive then ever.
yeah ok, but pc users are not fair in general.. apple users don't like illigal things i guess.. ehm.. i use windows though.. i don't use illigal software though
lol, that's not because they trust their users more. It's because they earn their money from hardware NOT software. OS X is cheap. If a household can install it on five macs then maybe they will buy more macs which is where apple earn their money...

Over 50 MILLION users playing Perfect World on PC and you say pc is for the poor. MAC's are for the morons. Every one I've seen using a MAC looks like there about to explode.
Yeah sure!!! The main reason why there is no activation is because you can only install the OS on macs MADE ONLY BY APPLE(that come with a version of OSX) so they already made money on the hardware and the software. Whilst Microsoft only make software, they get 0$ from the pcs because not all pcs come with Windows.
OSX is for noobs, Linux is for geeks, PC all the freaking way baby.
@funnyjerry dude, I can't believe you're trying to justify the activation system. it's as bad as DRM! Microsoft make MORE than enough money without needing the activation system.
@funnyjerry Techically that is not true. Microsoft scammed vendors into Per-processor contracts, meaning they get paid money from vendors for every processor they sell. Not every sell of windows, but every sell of a processor. So MS gets their money whether the sellers give out windows or not.
people crack Windows system with Key generators anyway, so let's just eliminate the middle man. Reactivate just because hardware changed? It's like they want me to pay more because I lost the box with my key on it.
Not their fault if you lose your CD-key dude. no company ever gave you another CD key because you lost it, and if they did you'd had to have proven you OWNED the game and not many other ways that are trust worthy.
@therealmetroidmaniac wait, so why is that different from not being able to run WebOS on an android phone, or having my mobile phone having windows mobile against my will?
@Rifalltoo You can run whatever else you want on an Android phone, depending on the make. Heck, I saw someone run Ubuntu linux on one Android smartphone.
@therealmetroidmaniac Well woopty doo. But unless I'm a geek, I don't get a choice. It's not like I can choose a model and then choose If I want WebOS or Android. It's kind of like regular computers. Most of them are just models and they come with Windows, wether you want it or not. Most vendors don't give you a choice. But you CAN change it, if you're geeky enough to know how.
You failed big this time. Ive you buy a Mac you always get the OS to. So ive you Buy this "update". You Surely will have a Mac. Mac OS runs only on Mac´s. Windows runs on fucking nearly everything you can get on the Computermarket thats why Microsoft need a Activation to limit the use of One Licence.
Chris, you make a big error. You forget that apple makes profit because of their hardware not software. So a stolen license won't hurt them as much as it would microsoft.
The reason that Apple doesn't have activation is that 80% of Apple users probably don't have a damn idea how to install an OS, let alone do it more than once without professional assistance.
Denial is your first step towards acceptance, though I recommend you hurry up and accept before you waste another $2000 on whatever Apple's new piece of garbage will be.
So i'll assume you don't know that when ever you go to the youtube there's a little icon at the right hand side of the screen that says you have "New Comments". Stop trying so hard.
Apple trusts users? well, you whant something about trust? Linux, because i download it for free, and i can install on as much pcs or machins i whant. If apple trust so much on users why the hell you cant install OSX on other machines without hacking?
It's a pain when trying to use Windows on your Mac. I had to activate about 5 times with bootcamp and parallels because it saw changes in hardware (I guess). I only use it for TS Gateway because my company only allows that through remote desktop and Bill won't add TS Gateway support to the Mac version.
Yes, activation is a pain.. Its only there to stop piracy, but dosnt really work lol.. But you only have to activate once in most cases..
The need to activate your OS is hardly a reason to not use Windows though.. I mean if you spent the same money that a Mac costs on building your own PC running on Win7, then activation wont even phase you.
If you spent the same money building a pc that the mac costs, you will have a much powerfull machine than mac.And you can run any OS on a pc including OSX,but i still prefer linux than any other os.
yah but they dont dare sue anyone cuz they have mad a monopoly of they software wich last i checked is Illegal and on top of that when you use hackintosh you dont agree to the EULA. besides i would rather do that and buy the software legaly later than pay $2000 for a good machine were i have one just as good for $600.
on top of everything else if you build the machine to the same hardware specs as apple makes with the same co. you are tech. using apple hardware.
the reason they let every1 download without activation is because lepord runs on macs and they get alot of money just from selling macs because apple makes ALL macs
yes, but this way they can make sure that all mac hardware is reliable and efficient etc. with windows, u really cant say that all windows machines are reliable becuz some oems are and some are not
The real difference is the Mac isnt a Software company . They made plenty of Profit when their users buy the computer. Windows only makes profit off of the software sold. If Apple was just a software company i think the outcome would be different. It's like when Trent Reznor gives out free music. He only get like $0.10 for every album he makes more money off of concerts and merchandise
Another video where your views or facts are just total BS or not thought out.
Apple not putting activation on their OS has nothing to do with trust, its because they want to spread their OS as much as possible. Using activation would only inhibit that. They'd much rather you run a cracked copy than not run a copy at all. Microsoft and many other large software devs take the same view. I do however buy all my software because that's my preference.
Until Apple stop pissing us off with DRM riddled iTurds and iPood. Good luck in trying to download your music off your iPod and use it as a usb stick.
The real difference is that Apple licenses the OS to the user, and Microsoft licenses the OS to the machine. Vista is very restrictive on how many times you can use it. If I changed Apple machines ten times, it's OK to load it on the next machine as long as I take it off the previous machine. Remember, Microsoft is a software company, Apple is primarily a hardware company. This produces big differences in the approach to customers.
you can only install mac on a mac computer so you would have had to spend the money on that which would come with an os. so if somebody went against the licensing it would really just be like letting somebody to upgrade for free.
URSAMINOR12 - good comment and your right, its a bit stupid of chris to compare them, Microsoft ONLY make operating system, apple make there money from hardware. They have nothing to loose really with regaurds to there os. if microsoft did that they would be fucked.
i got my MBP last year. i booted it up and it was tiger i looked over at my sisters and she had leopard. i was kinda mad but o well a MBP fro x-mas. 4 days later my dad came in from taking in the trash and a disk had fallen out of my MBP's box. it was a leopard copy. i lol'd and though how'd i miss that.
i'm so sick about microsoft licences. I bought a 10 licences for windows vista ultimate and i've installed it on 8 computers. but the thing that makes me sick is that, because i reinstall a lot of time my computer because i try every program on the net, i can't reactivate my computer. They all tell me: sorry, you only have 10 licences. you must get others licences
apple is taking the market with a different approach. which seems to be better than ms cause if you look at statistics its gaining some space in the market. of course not the whole thing but a slow start is better than a slow down....just got my new mac.
and that constitutes me as an Apple fanboy? Let me put it this way. I am not the most avid person for women getting abortions, but I again, I will defend their right to get them. So does that make me an abortion fanboy? hmmm....
Did you say that because I put holes through your statement? Or is it because you want a piece of the Mac pie, but can't have it? Jump in anytime, the water is lovely. Oh, and by the way, I am no fan boy. I thought it was very stupid of Apple to put development of the iPhone before the development of OS X by delaying the release of the OS and moving workers to iPhone development. I do not agree with all of Apple's actions, but I will defend my Mac with my dying breath.
Apple is not being stupid, they are being smart. Opening up the Software to other platforms would 1. make them lose a large percentage of sales, apple is a hardware company: what happens when you talk away the hardware? 2. have compatibility issues with drivers, like windows and make Apple put in more and more support for more drivers, making the OS more bloated
i honestly did betray there trust, because i bought a new alumiMac and i thought it was unfair that i saved up all my money for....so i borrowed it from a friend....i kinda dont feel bad...and im 17 lol! but ya i love apple leopard!
I bought the family pack at AUS$250 Apple overcharge Australians, but like Chris said, I'm honest, I knew the family pack disc is the same as the single pack, but I support Apple and Love OSX that's why I bought the family pack.
I so wanna upgrade to Leopard, but not sure if I can. We're tryin to cut down on the spending for awhile.... Maybe next year, duno.... Only had tiger for a little over a yr...
oh wow. people suck up to apple WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much. Is like after you buy a mac, you get this hate for microsoft and their cheap products. lol. I hate how apple just released a crappy product(ipod classic). Yet they get the best reviews ever. It's crazy. I had to literally return 2 ipods before I got a decent ipod classic that worked. I'm still waiting for apple to admit that retarded sluggishness problem, so they can finally fix it.
When I looked at some new MP3 players about 6 months back, I did seriously look at one of the Ipods but friends who have/had Ipods said "don't bother, they never work". I then decided to get a Creative Zen V Plus and I'm glad I did because it's never had problem, I even dropped it in a pint of milkshake and after cleaning and an hours slow heated drying (and praying) it came back to life!
Every company has its evils. Its the choice the customer makes that is important. It really doesn't matter who shoots semen first, what matters is who eats it. Get it?! :D
Hey Chris, This made me offically want to switch to Mac.Anyways, My cuurent Vista laptop has bluescreened on me more then once. I've had to Avtivate home premium 3 times and the time was NOT a charm, everytime my laptop boots up it says actuvation failed.....Why Microsoft, I'm not a pirate
i love apple os X but my mac broke :( so now i HAVE to use microsoft xp pro. so as u can imagine i was upset when my mac broke but now i have to use xp pro i am even more upset.
Chris I agree with you on the trust that apple bestows on us, users. in-fact I have seen in many OS X apps now an I paid tick box where one could just check it, as if they had paid for it but hadn't. I don't myself unless I have paid for that particular peace of software.
I 'm also using OS X Leopard and loving it. thanks for sharing your story
I had an activation problem wit my Home basic compy and i couldnt find my code so i waited to see if i can fix it-i couldn't so i ordered a nice little copy of Ubuntu an Kubuntu, three of each and i got it for $0.00. So I was VERY VERY happy how it turned out on my PC and it can run BERYL! a Dell B110 can run BERYL!!! i love this world!!
No offense, but you sound like you drive a Saturn (because Saturn cares about people, right?). Maybe the licence has to do with tech support. You obviously have to give them a license key when you call them up.
Apple can afford to look like they care because unlike Microsoft, Apple OS only runs on one company's machine - Apple. Windows gets pirated all the time and Microsoft has to take this into account; Apple doesn't have to worry as much because if Apple OS is being installed somewhere, it's on an Apple computer they sold.
They allow you to put it on as many computers as you want because they don't expect anyone to be stupid enough to be in the direct possession of more than 5 pieces of Apple hardware.
Ok so show me a 8 core Xeon Mac with room for 6 Sata or SAS drives with Builtin 6 drive Sata RAID card (a $999 option at the applesore by itself). Room for 16 Gig RAM for $1139.
To anyone out there that says macs are more expensive then PC's that is not true, they are close to $500 cheaper then windows depending on the make of the mac, so what shall i do with this $500, maybe buy Windows vista and install it on my Mac so you have both OS's and you can basically do what you want on this computer for the same price as a Windows machine, and it also looks nicer then any Window's based machine i have ever seen
Ok Here's why i don't use Mac despite Microsoft's stupid activation. Dell has a Dual Quad Core Xeon (that's 8 total cores) with 16 Gig RaM Cap (i only bought 1G). Built In 6 Drive Sata Raid Controller, 800 Watt Power Supply, Gigbit NIC for $1139. Equivalent Mac is 3x that much.
you can use the same windows on different computers but you wont be able to update any computer using windows updates but you can download them from the Microsoft site but don't let you computer download them you download them and it will only tell Microsoft the ip address that downloaded it and if you turn off the remote assistance and client for Microsoft networks they cant get on your computer without getting in trouble themselves
Don't get it. Just install Windows, click the button that says activate, type an activation code... and that's it ! Never had a problem with Windows activation tool. NEVER ! Besides - every single game has activation code !

This produces big differences in the approach to customers.
cpgne 2 years ago 2
I own a mac,
and I'd prefer if you'd shut up.
Nobody cares about how Apple trusts you. I already spent 2k+ on their hardware, of course they'll trust me.
Microsoft doesn't really sell hardware besides the xBox 360. They make money off of software. They can't afford to give away software copies.
drakeishfyre 2 years ago
He's saying how many companies in general would trust you like that. It's not really a Mac vs PC thing.
brostinkles1 2 years ago
apple is nice... they are beleving... they trust us...
WeAreTwoDoorsDown 2 years ago
you can only install mac on a mac computer so you would have had to spend the money on that which would come with an os. so if somebody went against the licensing it would really just be like letting somebody to upgrade for free.
republican1556 2 years ago
URSAMINOR12 - good comment and your right, its a bit stupid of chris to compare them, Microsoft ONLY make operating system, apple make there money from hardware. They have nothing to loose really with regaurds to there os. if microsoft did that they would be fucked.

Chris, Apple makes 90% of profits from hardware, so apple doesn''t have that much to lose

SAFE to say in the manner that nobody would hurt you. But patently untrue as a statement.

i'm so sick about microsoft licences. I bought a 10 licences for windows vista ultimate and i've installed it on 8 computers. but the thing that makes me sick is that, because i reinstall a lot of time my computer because i try every program on the net, i can't reactivate my computer. They all tell me: sorry, you only have 10 licences. you must get others licences

i dont think anyone in their right mind would purposely buy the same product for more money like chris seemed to do :\

apple is taking the market with a different approach. which seems to be better than ms cause if you look at statistics its gaining some space in the market. of course not the whole thing but a slow start is better than a slow down....just got my new mac.

and that constitutes me as an Apple fanboy? Let me put it this way. I am not the most avid person for women getting abortions, but I again, I will defend their right to get them. So does that make me an abortion fanboy? hmmm....
ShieldStar 4 years ago
Did you say that because I put holes through your statement? Or is it because you want a piece of the Mac pie, but can't have it? Jump in anytime, the water is lovely. Oh, and by the way, I am no fan boy. I thought it was very stupid of Apple to put development of the iPhone before the development of OS X by delaying the release of the OS and moving workers to iPhone development. I do not agree with all of Apple's actions, but I will defend my Mac with my dying breath.
ShieldStar 4 years ago
Apple is not being stupid, they are being smart. Opening up the Software to other platforms would 1. make them lose a large percentage of sales, apple is a hardware company: what happens when you talk away the hardware? 2. have compatibility issues with drivers, like windows and make Apple put in more and more support for more drivers, making the OS more bloated
ShieldStar 4 years ago
i honestly did betray there trust, because i bought a new alumiMac and i thought it was unfair that i saved up all my money for....so i borrowed it from a friend....i kinda dont feel bad...and im 17 lol! but ya i love apple leopard!

I bought the family pack at AUS$250 Apple overcharge Australians, but like Chris said, I'm honest, I knew the family pack disc is the same as the single pack, but I support Apple and Love OSX that's why I bought the family pack.
I have many macs, the family pack was for me.

oh wow. people suck up to apple WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much. Is like after you buy a mac, you get this hate for microsoft and their cheap products. lol. I hate how apple just released a crappy product(ipod classic). Yet they get the best reviews ever. It's crazy. I had to literally return 2 ipods before I got a decent ipod classic that worked. I'm still waiting for apple to admit that retarded sluggishness problem, so they can finally fix it.
drxclassic 4 years ago
When I looked at some new MP3 players about 6 months back, I did seriously look at one of the Ipods but friends who have/had Ipods said "don't bother, they never work". I then decided to get a Creative Zen V Plus and I'm glad I did because it's never had problem, I even dropped it in a pint of milkshake and after cleaning and an hours slow heated drying (and praying) it came back to life!

joshcj2006 4 years ago
Chris I agree with you on the trust that apple bestows on us, users. in-fact I have seen in many OS X apps now an I paid tick box where one could just check it, as if they had paid for it but hadn't. I don't myself unless I have paid for that particular peace of software.
I 'm also using OS X Leopard and loving it. thanks for sharing your story

I had an activation problem wit my Home basic compy and i couldnt find my code so i waited to see if i can fix it-i couldn't so i ordered a nice little copy of Ubuntu an Kubuntu, three of each and i got it for $0.00. So I was VERY VERY happy how it turned out on my PC and it can run BERYL! a Dell B110 can run BERYL!!! i love this world!!

microsoft activation is crap
if you keep trying to activate it though eventually they will let it be activated

Once Apple gets more popular it will be as evil MS is now, the best thing to do is switch to Linux.
wafflemou 4 years ago
Apple doesnt trust users more than Microsoft because the iphone is a close system.
So both companies are evil in the same way!
Colamix666 4 years ago
they do that because what computer can you instal those disks on? macs, so their not realy loosing money. i mean, a disk costs less then $1 to make.

No offense, but you sound like you drive a Saturn (because Saturn cares about people, right?). Maybe the licence has to do with tech support. You obviously have to give them a license key when you call them up.
BornAtNight 4 years ago
Apple can afford to look like they care because unlike Microsoft, Apple OS only runs on one company's machine - Apple. Windows gets pirated all the time and Microsoft has to take this into account; Apple doesn't have to worry as much because if Apple OS is being installed somewhere, it's on an Apple computer they sold.
BornAtNight 4 years ago
Leopard has sold 2 million copies sense friday.
34skyline 4 years ago
They allow you to put it on as many computers as you want because they don't expect anyone to be stupid enough to be in the direct possession of more than 5 pieces of Apple hardware.
ErikValdr 4 years ago 2

Hybrid656 4 years ago
Oh and BTW if Mac OSX ran on that dell that would really hurt M$ bad.
joesatube 4 years ago
why is this video lagging so much?
Ok Here's why i don't use Mac despite Microsoft's stupid activation. Dell has a Dual Quad Core Xeon (that's 8 total cores) with 16 Gig RaM Cap (i only bought 1G). Built In 6 Drive Sata Raid Controller, 800 Watt Power Supply, Gigbit NIC for $1139. Equivalent Mac is 3x that much.
joesatube 4 years ago
its the newest OS from apple, like vista from microsoft, only 1,000,000 better and faster, and more stable
DavidDude96 4 years ago
everyone should have a mac, theyre clearly much nicer
DavidDude96 4 years ago
you can use the same windows on different computers but you wont be able to update any computer using windows updates but you can download them from the Microsoft site but don't let you computer download them you download them and it will only tell Microsoft the ip address that downloaded it and if you turn off the remote assistance and client for Microsoft networks they cant get on your computer without getting in trouble themselves
