  • My son said he wanted to play drums. I bought him a basic setup. I told him that when he could play "Let there be drums" , I'd add to his kit. He has added a lot. He says I tricked him because its not the drums or the beat, its the drummer. I think I taught him well.

  • I heard this on the 50s on 5 XM radio channel today and loved it!

  • Drums are THE way of communication without words. Can't you hear them talking to each other? Great post!!!

  • Very awesome stuff !!!!

  • WOW!

  • wow this takes this old lady back thank you i have 8 of your old albums 78s

  • rock n roll !!!!!!!

  • I actually met this guy late at night in a small diner in Santa Monica in 1980. My mate and I were at that time guitarists playing in a jazz-rock band and were on holiday in the US from the UK. He had broken his foot at the time and had a big plaster on it but it didn't stop him from playing. As I recall he was a really nice guy and loved talking about music of all kinds.

  • Sandy is the man with the feel. "Feel." What a concept. Not like those today who must see how many beats they can fill into a break.

What brand of drums are those? They look a bit like eighties Gretsch.

  • one smooth mofo! right there with bellson krupa rich

  • i love mixing this beat with some double bass great beat to start a foundation of beats with

  • Great stuff! My dad was a jazz drummer in the 50/60/70's., & I remember him playing this record when I was a wee lad back in Scotland.

  • Forget Kruper & Rich, this guy is the real deal!!!

  • gene krupa at least spell his name right krupa is king of all drummers bar none!

  • When I was a kid my dad use to play this album alot. It was the only album my dad bought that I really liked as a 6 year old. Now listening to Sandy bang out those beats as an old timer really brought back some memories! Thanks!

  • Simply the best

  • Great stuff. I wonder how many drummers above a certain age where inspired to pick up the sticks by this man

  • Wow! This guy still has it. Has he thought of doing another album? Modern recording would probably make for much clearer sound than I remember from his records...but then again they were well worn from over-playing! Keep going Sandy!

  • Sandy has a new project called Sandy Nelson and the Sin City Termites. I searched and found it on Itunes. It's a great album, I'm enjoying it very much. The album is called Nelsonized.

  • Sorry for not posting more, will speak with Sandy, haven't seen him for a couple of weeks, been busy working two jobs.

    Jim

  • Is this in Boulder City NV? Does he live around there? That would be amazing. I'd love to somehow meet him. I'm 33 years old, and Let There Be Drums was one of the first records I can remember. I've had it since I was 4. I used to sit there and play the thing from side A to side B and have a damn good time. I remember playing Birth of the Beat at 45 rpm and then at 16rpm. Really affected how I play when I finally started playing in high school.

  • This is on my playlist now.

  • I wish he would post more sandy nelson videos

  • Great tuning! Love the natural sound. I'm sure that his 60's albums were not "close-mic'd". The well-tuned drums cut right through.

  • Big inspiration. In the early 60s I had all his albums and drummed along with him in the basement. It led to a decent high school career of playing in a damn good band!

  • great wedding gig surprise. How cool!!

  • Great drumming! Good stuff!

  • Yep, he's the boss...

  • magic magic sandy come to london ton of us want you here to gig maybe the 100 club or ronnie scotts.

for god sake put us out of our misery we love you man!!!

I have a great house stay with me and my young family in london.
