@power5able Yes, you're right. 눈 (nun) means eye. But 눈빛 (nunbit) is more used.
Like in 2NE1's songs; Fire [BOM] 내 눈빛은 빛나는 별들로 (nae nunbicheun bitnaneun byeoldeulro) Pretty Boy: [CL] 너의 두 눈빛을 훔쳐 내 가슴에 담을게 (neoeui du nunbicheul humchyeo nae gaseume dameulge)
I don't know what the sentences mean except; nae:my, byeol:star, du:two, gaseum(+e):heart(+place particle). Hope t'was helpful!
no. try looking at Busyatomdotcom's hangeul videos. If you want to learn Korean vocabulary, it's best to know how to read a bit of Korean letters first. It will make things a lot easier.
Bee and Pee are spelled differently. how do you know the difference? well it sounds different and there are different letters for individual sounds. if you know the letters it's easier to tell
@SmoothCriminalAaron um I don't think "half a new boat" doesn't make sense even in english... but yea most koreans would know what you're saying if you just say "half of a new boat." b/c they just don't say 배.. they have names and particles and context. b/c of context people will know what you're saying. and plus in Korea there are sino-korean words.
눈 (eyes native korean)- 안 (eyes sino Korean)
눈 (snow native kr) -설 (snow sino-kr)
you use either one (sino is part of more complex letter)
@SmoothCriminalAaron sino-korean = (derived from chinese words) each letter corresponds to a chinese letter. (Koreans used Chinese letters to write before 1443. and then they invented Hangeul and switched off to using Korean letters, so chinese letters were important in literature)
so Sino-Korean is usually used in combination to other sino-korean or native kr letters, and is considered high class vocabulary
한국인 - (인 = sino-kr for person.) (formal way of saying Korean.) 사람 - native kr for person
@SmoothCriminalAaron yes... most foreigners I think just memorize all individual Korean letters and don't care much of sino-korean. then later they get a pattern of what the sino-korean letter could be in a word (한국인, 미국인..인's repeated and it means person) so don't worry about it. knowing the sino korean letter can make learning korean words a lot easier but without koreans around you it can be hard to learn them. Just focus on learning words.
You are right. I dunno whether that word is pure Hangul or Sino-Korean but it is pronounced similarly to Chinese word. I am Vietnamese and Vietnamese language has also pure Vietnamese for the sun and Sino-Vietnamese for the sun with similar pronunciation (to some extent it is pronounced "tian/teang....")
it's actually bi or bee, and even tho it might not sound different, most koreans especially teachers will tell you there is a difference and just the sound of those two when mistaken for one another can cause confusion. For example, "bi" means rain, but "pi" means blood. If you say you see "pi" when you meant rain, someone will think you see blood and not rain. Stressing the letters is kind of important when talking in Korean.
does that mean that eyes 'nun'' also means snow???

@mohsine1080 Hi~!
Like @power5able said, nun means 눈.
Also, 내 눈빛은 빛나는 별들로 means, 'The light from my eyes are with shining stars."
너의 두 눈빛을 훔쳐 내 가슴에 담을게 means "I'll take the lights of your eyes and keep in mine"

I like how the word for Rain is Pee
SmoothCriminalAaron 1 year ago 2
@SmoothCriminalAaron it's bee. if you say Pee- it means blood in Korean...
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 wait so bee and pee/rain and blood is the same thing?
Are they both spelled 비?
how do you know the difference when it is spelled?
I dun get how one word has so many meanings!

@SmoothCriminalAaron

비- rain (bee) 피 - pee (blood)
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 ok wait I am the Mast at the letters.
I know that the ㅂ is a cross between a b and a p.
Ive heard it explained like that a million times
I know the other one is a HARD P
Like in ㅈ ㅊ
ㄷㅌ
ㄱㅋ
mabye you can't see that but you get my point.
Ok, help me with this, my iPhone App told me that 반 means Class
But other apps and translators tell me it means half, i typed in hangul!
SmoothCriminalAaron 1 year ago
@SmoothCriminalAaron um so you get that ㅍ is the actual P sound right? ㅂ can sound like a soft P but it's not an absolute P sound.
반 does mean class, and half. that's just the way it goes. a lot of Korean letters have multiple meanings
배 = pear, stomach, boat. 눈= eye, snow. 새 - bird, new.
to name a few
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 Ok, Im down on the letter things
But If I was to say: half a new boat
You might think: class a bird stomach
How do you understand eachother?
SmoothCriminalAaron 1 year ago
@SmoothCriminalAaron um I don't think "half a new boat" doesn't make sense even in english... but yea most koreans would know what you're saying if you just say "half of a new boat." b/c they just don't say 배.. they have names and particles and context. b/c of context people will know what you're saying. and plus in Korea there are sino-korean words.

@tokee1234567 whats the point of having 2 types of words?
SmoothCriminalAaron 1 year ago

the writing was made by the command of king sejong in the 15th or 16th century. I think it's great it's so easy to learn.
i'm not sure what u mean by two parts but sure there's consonant-vowel, consonant-vowel-consonant etc

it's actually bi or bee, and even tho it might not sound different, most koreans especially teachers will tell you there is a difference and just the sound of those two when mistaken for one another can cause confusion. For example, "bi" means rain, but "pi" means blood. If you say you see "pi" when you meant rain, someone will think you see blood and not rain.
