  • Ah yes...I taught him everything he knows.

  • One best Bassists ever. if not the major.

  • this is a master at work. they just don't do it like this anymore. i just put down my bass and bowed to mr. jamerson.

  • yep......you can also get the marvin gaye version in the bass white pages, dots only......the jamerson book features a cd that you can accentuate or reduce the amount of bass or backing track by adjusting the balance control on your stereo...its a great book.....i've had mine nearly 15 years and play something from it daily

  • Is Jamerson tuned half a step down (Eb Ab Db Gb) or is the song just in the key of Bbm?

  • @JuggernautJoey Good question as I've often wondered this myself. I have two theories. #1 Maybe James tuned his bass to the old out of tune Piano that Earl Van Dyke hammered on? 2# Maybe somewhere in the analog to digital process the tracks changed time or pitch somehow? But trying to play along with James on my bass I noticed he always seems to be a little flat of standard. (concert pitch??)

  • @zachthebassplayer Man, Jamerson is the only guy I know who can create a mind blowing groove using only wrong notes.

  • @wintereight There are no wrong notes.

  • It's amazing how a bass line defines a song's impact. Not that it isn't a great song to begin with. There's just so much to learn from a line like that. Just awesome. Thanks for posting it.

  • Supreme. I can't afford that amount of groove and funk, it's too much for my ears

  • Jamerson was THE MAN!! The backbone of the Mowtown sound.

  • what a groove maker. he makes those dirty flatwounds come alive

  • The one and only James Jamerson! He was a magnificent and creative artist on the bass and a troubled, but equally blessed human being! I LOVE MOTOWN!

PS- His bass playing was always powerful, clean, and ferocious. Long live the king!

  • I had to listen to this one again! It's like.....ear sex...lol!

  • Supreme mastery of the bass.

  • Does he play bass on "I was made to love her"?

  • @titostacos Yes, he does...that's a great bassline, too.

  • @titostacos yes

  • @titostacos Did Jesus walk on water?

  • @Kenteman Yes He did after Jamerson said it was safe to.Cant think of any the great Bass players thinking this play would fit.James did it.

  • P Bass with flats through a B-15 with smooth natural distortion. It's like ear sex!

  • can you get the isolated bass line to whats happening brother?

  • @ryanminga

No can do. I found this isolated bass track by chance.

  • Fantastic. Thanks for this. Jamerson was the greatest. There is nobody who could do what he did. So natural. Sounds easy. But try it sometime.

  • Very cool. How about an isolated track of Chuck Rainey playing? Now that would be super cool...

  • Wow, that was so awsome. Pure genius.

  • Can one get the isolated bass line of Gladys Knight and The Pips' version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine?"

  • @currter

    could i? nope :)

  • @currter you can get the dots in the standing in the shadows book, and the included cd contains isolated bass

  • @buckandotis Is it of the isolated bass for "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by Gladys Knight and The Pips?

  • Undisputely James.

  • I could literally feel my headphones thumping up and down! Probably one of Jamerson's best basslines ever.

  • Found it on a website a couple of years ago. Don't remember the name though, sorry...

  • How did you manage to get hold of this?
