  • There are many types of Thermite. The we have just seen is but one amonst many. The is a thermite that's made out of Red Lead (ii) oxide. Powdered "German Blackhead" Aluminum, and some standard KClO3+Al2 "Flash Powder" to set off the reaction. The Red Lead ii Oxide Thermite goes off in an explosive BANG! and it's toxic too. I made a slow-burning thermite by dusting steel wool with NaNO3+KNO3 and flare powder. I then added a great sum of Aluminum foil then set this entire business on fire.

  • @Nikolaii2571 you know your science

  • Hyper much?

  • @janders619 not hyper enough!

  • That was science. And was cool. I like thermite. Can't bring myself to rust two hammers though; I'll just have to remember this one for a looong time. :-)

  • @FrogmortonHotchkiss you can use any thing that has been rusted just wrap object in tinfoil.

  • i thought i was crazy but youre the man crazy dude

  • @steviejacko I di what I can :)

  • wow u made a spark iv never done that b4

  • @1x1x1x1x1x i know isnt that amazing :D

  • wanna see something REALLY COOL!?!?!?!? GET the hindenburg mystery episode of mythbusters! its just FIRE AND THERMITE! check it out!

  • @artisttutorials I've seen that one That thing burned up quicker then I would of imagined :D

  • @ShadowedWolfPuppy Its not something safe enough that I would be willing to do on this show for 2 reasons. 1 many families watch these videos with thier younger children for home schooling and I really wouldnt want anyone to get hurt but I definetly wouldnt want some1s child in the ER becuz they did something they saw on this show. 2 Youtube pays me and I definetly wouldnt want youtube to cancle my contract bcuz they got sued, other partners might wanna take that risk but Im not other partners

  • even I smash the wall (made of cement) it sparks! little.

  • @Lor27509 Yes any sudden impact of energy will create enough heat that will burn the foil & create a spark. :)

  • @1c34l1f3 are you trying to be a video troll? No you wouldn want to do that I dont think you would like doing that at all!

  • I thought this video was pretty good.

  • @Presidentgraham wicked =^D I hope you can find a couple of rusty hammers & some tin foil and do this for yourself at home too.

  • lol the facts r from wikipedia right? i think ive heard all those b4

  • @hobomnky

In this case yes I got my information from wikipedia but this is a very rare occation that I would go to wikipedia for educational information. How-ever 99% of the information for the science file explanations comes from well renowned encyclepedias. I do not like wikipedia as a information source due the fact that anyone can add or subtract information on thier site. I dont recomend wikipedia because they are a non-reliable information source.

  • @Socoolsciences how contrary to my annoying teachers i think wikipedia is great, there is easily accesable information on many topics that would take much longer to reasearch otherwise, also i have never seen any significant mistakes on there and im always on wikipedia, lol like right now

  • @hobomnky

Well as much as I dont want to insult your teachers here, Im glad none of my teachers would tell me to search a sight that is not always reliable. I have a high standard in presenting the most accuarte scientific information as I take days some times weeks researching each show and therefor I continue to go to reliable resources.

  • Fe2O3+2Al=Al2O3+2Fe

  • Yes that is exactly right the balanced chemical equation for the thermite reaction and is why im not a big fan of the chemistry you know cause no one likes having to balance chemical equations. =^D

  • I find balancing equations fun. I don't know why, I guess I just like chemistry that much!

  • Well if I ever need any equations balanced I'll send them all to you how bout that. =^D

  • yay i learned something new!

anyway my little cousin and I love watching your vids!

  • Well thanks a bunch. Hearing that you guys enjoy the science files is the best reward out there. Tell you little cousin "Crazy Chris says Hi" =^D

  • you said tin foil, it's aluminum foil you need. otherwise, good video.

  • You say tomatoe, I say that tinfoil & aluminom foil convey the same exact same meaning!

  • I still love your videos, we need more experimentalists. I want to become one too. I just can't help but be very attentive to details, college has me in that habit.

  • So whats stopping you from becoming one? Theres no special form I filled out to do expirments on camera, if you really love doing experimental videos, just get out there and do it. Just make sure you put your own spin on it. =^D

  • Wow the hamster voice lol. You love tin foil I see. xD Woot go crazy! No, just kidding haha. This is probably one of the most funny videos you've made yet. Keep up the good work and Im itching to try this *goes to look for my dad's tool box*

Anyways keep up the good work. Love the vids. ^^

  • Well thanks so much for your continued support. Everyone always tells me how much they love the Hamster voice. Now go try it! Its really fun to do.

  • Another Great Video Chris 5stars i wish i could rate it higher =D

  • You could rate it twice!?! That would be like giving me 10 stars! =^D

It was super cold on the night I filmed this. I almost couldnt move my fingers. Which is why at the end of the sciece file you dont see me moving my hands.

  • Actually Thermite can explode if you do it over a block of ice.. It was proven on Mythbusters!

  • Thermite by itself wont explode. All thermite will do is get super hot.

Scientist are not sure at this current time, why thermite explodes when mixed with ice. How-ever they are working on answer.

Its possible that heat from the thermite turns the ice directly into a gas, if this gas is trapped inside the ice blocks it will explode.

The mythbusters mainly "Jamie" even said they are not sure why the reaction creates an explosion but it is not the thermite that causes the explosion.

  • @Socoolscienceshow

lol "Scientist are not sure at this current time, why thermite explodes when mixed with ice. How-ever they are working on answer." thermit explodes in contact with ice (or wather , whatever) because the melted iron that results from the thermit reaction is way over 3000ºC, so at that temperatures, and when in contact with the ice, the energy from the heat is so big that separates the hydrogen for the oxigen, which in contact with the air`s oxigen ignites and , you know, bomm.

  • i think it does that because it turns the ice directly into vapour (sublimation) and the super high pressure of that gas within the thermite (the hotter the gas, the more it moves around) just throws the thermite everywhere. an explosion after all, is just a rapid increase in volume and pressure of a substance. the water/ice/ acts as the gas agent, and the thermite kinda like the detonation source to a very extreme level because of its super heat.

  • Awesome.

  • Im glad you liked it. As crazy-cool as it is to watch this, its way more exciting to try it for yourself. So go do it for you friends, your family, or complete strangers in public if you want. Hey Im not here to judge. =^D

  • That was pretty cool, I still just want to get some aluminum powder and iron oxide powder though..... ;)

  • Sew-eeet!

But for those who cant get thier hands on expensive aluminum powder & dont want to take hours scraping iron oxide... this expirments is for them. =^D

  • very hot vid :)

    absolute great

    5*

  • Some one told me to to do this expirment with rusted ball barings, but who has rusted ball barings in thier home? So I thought you know what, I have 2 rusty hammers in my garage. Gave it a try &

!BAM! well acctually.... !snap! lol The sparks began flying. =^D

  • Can I do this at school?

  • You sure can! Just make sure to have those safety glasses on or make sure you eyes are protected Then get infront of that class, have some fun & pass it around the class room with those safety glasses so everyone can give it a try!!

Oh yeah then tell them to go check out the "So Cool Science Show" on youtube. =^D
