  • Better than Dylan???? Perhaps you should LISTEN to LP's like Highway 61, Bringing It All Back Home, Freewheelin, Blood On The Tracks, and about a dozen more Dylan albums before making such ignorant comments. Alan was good, but he will always be a minor footnote in rock history.

  • Lennon, Dylan etc, all great, all song masters, but Alan was a song Meister, and never really recognised - i knew him, I miss you Alan - RIP mate

  • Not just better than Dylan. I think he also wrote songs often as good as and better than Lennon. Lennon's All You Need is Love? Witness Hully's Love is the Answer. Lennon's In My Life? Witness Hully's Somewhere Out There. Alan Hull was an exceptional musician and an exceptional human being.

  • Brilliant brilliant one of the UK'S best songwriters seriously underrated

    love and miss you Alan

    steve

  • The great thing about opinions is that everybody is entitled to one.

  • Great song!

  • James Alan Hull the underated genius.

i once met Elvis Costello and i asked him his opinion on Alan and he said 'he was a brilliant song writer, his stuff is as good as anyones', i mentioned winter song and suggested he do a cover version, and he actually did it, on american t.v at least. Nice one Alan, R.I.P.

  • Many years ago someone mentioned that Alan Hull was "The North East Bob Dylan" - at the time i thought that was a bit strong!

........... now, i think they had a point! What a talent - wish he was still around, i'd love to hear what he would be writing now!

  • The re-issue CD of Hullys "Phantoms" is well worth checking out - great bonus tracks!

"Happy Daze" re-issue CD too - for some reason i'm on a real Lindisfarne/Alan Hull rediscovery trip at the moment, and loving every minute!

Thanks for posting - more please!

  • Alan is a real Genius. I bought him a pint of beer at the south shields folk club a few weeks before he died. a great great man, never underestimate him.

buy back to basics, pipedream and on the other side, awesome

  • I have the full show on vhs and now dvd + lots more

  • Can u up the full show on here? I'm a massive Alan Hull but there's hardly nothing on here. That squire play aswell, wheres that? cheers

  • Alan Hull - genius. Better than Dylan

  • I used to adore Alan Hull... I hear just now he's dead

but I could never say ANYBODY is better than DYLAN

  • lol ive given u both a thumbs up cos ur both right i think :)

but id have to go with acousticj's comment, hully's better than dylan

  • thanks for the thumb up and u can have your own opinions of course [but you're wrong;-) ]

but we won't argue for this! Ciao!

    kiss

  • haha yeah not gonna argue with u, we can both agree theyre both fantastic songwriters :)

  • I too love them both but I think Hully edges it.

  • @acousticj I bought all early Lindisfarne stuff in the glory days of vinyl, i also know Alan's stuff, but better than Dylan is a joke good old Alan would laugh about himself. If you know about music history than you might know that most of the folk (rock) bands and songwriters came out of Dylan's coat. But its sure, Alan is one of the best songwriters Britain ever had.

  • @acousticj yeah right

  • This song is about the tragedy of the Israel-Palestinian conflict

  • What is this song about?

  • What a talent, sadly missed

  • GREAT FOOTAGE! have you got the rest of the end of it?
