Not meaning to be insulting at all but which would be scarier? Firing a weapon after practicing proper technique OR looking down the barrel of an ak47 when some wanna be bad ass breaks in your house to prove he's a gangsta.
I clicked figuring the video was going to be anti-gun chest pounding. It's refreshing to hear someone say they are afraid of guns but they know that doesn't mean guns are evil or bad. The whole gun debate would be much better if everyone could keep their emotions out of it. Thanks for the good video.
Man you scare me what are you worried about do you know something I dont know what are you expecting to happen wow really you need to seek help and I mean that seriously you talk like a mad man you sound like these people that believe a zombie war is really coming man I like guns I served in the army and even war man you sound scary. The economy????? what does that have to do with buying a gun please answer that
As i live in a country that straggles the everyman's rights to bear arms, i am forced to develop my body into an effective defensive tool and utilise the tools i am allowed and am able to procure, and i am in a place that i feel a little bit more propared, though no where near the place i need to be. i've also startd food prepping, but its taking time as i'm on a restricted budget.
I still don't feel like I completely got your reason for buying that shotgun. People's response to bad economy? You talkin bout roving mobs, people assaulting other people's homes and trying to kill them over... yeah over what actually? I don't mean any offense, but I'd be glad if you could explain. Maybe it's just me living in another part of the world (Germany). But economy's bad here as well and times are rough. But not THAT rough, you know... very interesting video/opinion anyway!
@USZ71 Point taken. But... One: I was addressing the author of this video. @BugEyes85 I wouldn't say a constant state of fear. The cold hard reality is that in modern times people are victims of crimes every day. He chose a firearm to defend himself. Someone else may choose another means of self defence. We live in a time when people are victims of everything from violent assaults to all out hot home invasions. I hope that you at least have some means of self defence that you are proficient with whether its a firearm or not.
@rdsii64 yes sir. we just don't have that many "all out hot home invasions" here in northern germany... :-) but i keep a blank firing gun in my bedside cabinet, too.

Everything you say makes sense, fear stems from the unknown. Personally, I have never been afraid of guns or any other inanimate object. I am afraid of some people with guns however, especially people that should not have guns (like the mentally insane).
im from texas and usaualy people who are afraid of guns piss me off but not u ur pretty cool look at a rock island armory 1911 o and btw look at getting a bugout bag
It is understanderable that you have a fear of guns. That is OK. The thing that you should fear is the person that wants to take your right to have a gun away.
Wow Alaska is a very beautiful area to live in, Very nice scenery :) And a shotgun is a great weapon to have in the home for self defense! Nice video man :)
I own a lot of guns and am full blown Democrat. Republicans are for the rich and could give a shit about anyone that does not fit into their religious nut job tea bagging group. I am for Universal health care and I know we will have it as soon as some of the old farts that keep trying to take us back to the 60s era where blacks and women were kept in their place die out a bit.
most black people dont like guns because thats all they see growing up,illegal weapons drug dealers, and crime. Coming from a white boy, guns save lives they do no such harm, it is the loony behind the weapon, but odnt make me pay for some loser with a dream who wants guns banned.
@pjicleanair420 Thats just a stupid stereotype, you dam idiot not all "Black People" have seen "illegal weapons and drug dealers". And for the crime part, we have all seen crime at one point in are childhood thats just a fact. And a little bit of advise for you, think twice before you open your mouth.
I really like your gun videos, while i cannot comprehend what it must be like to not fully understand all aspects of firearms as I grew up in a military and police family background.
I have spent some time with buddies that were in your situation and I helped instruct them in safety, tactical, functioning of weaponry Etc.
It is nice that someone is honest enough to say "I don't know, but I am learning"
got a few thousand rounds for sks 300 357 mag shells about 200 something for my mossberg 500 and 200 for my 30-06 if any thing bad ever happens were gonna go to my grandmas this is what i have got far as ammo my grandma has plenty of food and my other relatives have bunch of ammo stocked also congrats on overcoming your fear of guns! From Tn
I love the look of your mossbergthe wood forgrip and stock, prospect Kentucky, own around 20 firearms, have stocked up on protein powder and multiple vitamins and a water filter, have a cabin around 50 miles away insulated
oh yeah, and good gun choice, my mossberg is almost identical in an almost identical gun case. I'm from Maryland, since you said to put what state we're from/.
hey, good for you for support second amendment even though you are admittedly scared of guns. i hate people who let there fear for something try to ruin something for everyone else who know how to safely use one.
@salemhodson: In addition to my main doors, I also have a strong hallway door that locks, and the bedroom doors lock. So, if somebody were to kick in my front door they would have to kick in two more doors to get to me. Plenty of time to load a gun. A good dog will also bark and wake you up if somebody is trying to slowly and 'silently' break in. I myself have a German Shepard.
respect for the honesty, that your scared of guns. That comes from either not ever being around firearms, or being brainwashed that guns are bad. Guns dont forgive, one mess up and either your dead, or someone else is. Same thing with a car, you can never be too carefull with either one. If i where you,i would buy about 200 rounds and just get used to your firearm. Then buy some more, and shoot the crap out of it. Learn the controls of it. good video
"Yeah you're right... If an attacker has a gun that is fully loaded and you have one that isn't you'll be caught dead in your tracks unless you are prepared to take their life in self defense"
Or if he physically charges you.
Although it's not a law, and I don't believe it should be as it must be a decision of responsibility, if you own a gun, it is to your benefit and your responsibility to obtain good training and practice to become proficient in its safe and effective use.
"It is so intimidating you don't really need to keep it loaded for it to be effective"
If you own a gun, you'd better be prepared to use it in the manner intended.
The problem with not loading it with the rather foolhardy intention of scaring your attacker is that there is the possibility your attacker may be bold enough to call you on your bluff; intimidation doesn't always work.
If all you intend to use your gun for is intimidation, then you really shouldn't have one.
Because of your lack of experience and understanding, you fear guns.
No big deal; human beings have a tendency to fear and even be repulsed by things they do not understand. It is a defensive response because, if you aren't certain about something, you don't know if it is safe or could be harmful to you so you default to avoidance in cautious self-preservation.
You have two choices:
1. Face the fear through education, experience and understanding.
I've watched a couple of your gun videos, and I'm really proud to hear that you've conquered your own personal fear of guns. :) I understand exactly what you're talking about in regards to the economy; around the time you uploaded this video, we actually had an armed robbery at one of our local banks! Apparently, the robbers' intentions were motivated by the trouble with the economy.
SoCal. I have learned about local edible plants. I have several lbs of bulk foods such as rice, beans and noddle soups. I have a water filtration device with extra filters, Iodin drops should not be used for long term H2O purification. Thinking safety = Food, Shelter, Water and security (firearms). Buy easy to operate and maintan firearms..ie can you fix it if it breaks? How much ammo do you have, can you easily get more? Start learning about repairing your shotty if it breaks. Buy ammo.
The best way to be less freaked out by your gun is to interact with it. Take it out of the case and clean it, oil it up and spend some time with it. Being around it and handling it in your home will give you a better feel for the ergonomics of the weapon and you will learn how to appreciate it more than fearing it.
Network? R U a Gov't employee? Do you have a list of gun owners? who have food? where their aunties and uncles live? U ask alot of questions.. does all who contact you.. go into a database? shill..plant. Bang...lol
There is nothing to fear if you are around RESPONSIBLE gun owners and users.
Always treat every gun as if it is loaded...even if you have checked to make sure it's not.
And basically...don't point it at anything you don't want dead.
The great thing about a shotgun for home defense is 9 times out of 10...the racking action alone is enough to make attackers flee. It's an intimidating sound.
Miles City Montana here-LnL AP-Hey demcad-are you planning to use this particularly for home defense or do you plan on taking to the field with this weapon? I have a 870-I found that you can get a rifled barrel-grooves to promote accuracy when firing a slug-evidentally they can be efficient up to 200 yards-that could really help extend the range and effectiveness of that weapon....
good for you man, im glad to see that you took on your fear instead of perpetuating it. i was taught to shoot when i was a small child and have the utmost respect for guns. but as a result i have never been scared of them because i understand them. dont fear it, respect it. that gun could save your life if you know how to use it properly. shoot it as much as you can, dont just put it away. a gun is worthless if you cant use it.
congratulations on your first gun, the Mossberg 500 was a great choice, it's dependable and versatile. spend time handling it and shooting it and that fear will turn into competence and confidence.
everone should fear, not the gun but what that gun can do, when i hold a gun i get a lil nervous and anxious. but that is the respect i have for that gun. respect for your weapon is as vital as the ammo. i rely on an AR10. i practice firing from the hip. in the event your aquisition time is limited. and quick aquisition.a 7.62*51 cartridge is a one shot drop. their not getting up. as far as shotguns go, i advice buck and slug shot. depending on your reaction time and aim.
im not exactly sure when this video was posted but here goes.......shoot your gun, become its friend because it could save your life one of these days.....if your going to own a gun you damn sure need not be afraid of it.
We are very well armed here. We are also well trained. I would encourage you to practice often with the shotgun. It's not a magical stick that reached out and disables. You need to learn how to use it. Ammo selection is of vital importance for home defense. Don't load for bear, when bird shot will do. Low recoil rounds are very nice. You don't want to be able to shoot through walls, because you can't see who is on the other side. Never get complacent. Take Hunters Safety Course.
where do you practice with a shotgun? Here in Ohio, most ranges do not allow them because they don't want to clean up after them. The few that do charge cleanup fees (!)
It's the person. If you set a gun on a table, unless it's triggered remotely, the firing pin won't magically go off.
I have yet to open up my gun safe and watch all my guns start firing at will on their own.
Criminals kill people, guns can't. They are imanimet objects. Criminals don't care about the law, so banning them isn't going to phase them, you'll just piss off every responsible gun owner in the United States. Good idea, eh?
dude guns are scarey.but not having one is even scarier.there are a lot of messed up people in this world.nowdays you have to be able to protect yourself and your family.good luck.
When i see you holding that mossberg 500... I freak out. Literally. I can't imagine seeing you under a stressful situation with that gun in your hand and think of you alleviating the tension with a rational and safe tactic holding that shotgun.
There's got to be some guys up where you are that would be happy to help you learn more, shoot some and help you get over your initial fear of guns in general. You've taken the biggest step of all and bought your gun. That's great, now try to find someone you can go out and shoot with. A local gun club or hunter group could likely help you the most where you are. Good luck, and be safe.
Good choice of defensive arm. Take care when choosing the right ammunition. Don't listen to the people who tell you to use bird shot for defense, it is mostly useless for self-defense. (Keep in mind that Dick Cheney shot an old lawyer in the face with bird shot and he lived to tell about it) Use some form of Buck shot.
I respect a person who defends a persons right to bear arms, and he himself does not like or use a gun. It takes guts, because it's easy to follow your emotions and suppor to controll however you use your brain to mask your politics rather then your emotions. Much Respect
I can respect your position on the situation but trust me man...have that shotgun out somewhere so you can get to it quick. You dont want to be fiddling around with a case when someone is kicking in your door. Learn to disassemble it...learn how it works....Learn how to load it and unload it.
I am in Georgia BTW.
We have a food and water rotation going, lots of ammos and guns, and various clothing and equipment for survival to include gas masks for everyone.
remember this, humans are capable of incedible things, humans are also capable of incredibley aweful things. If it comes down to collapse of our gov't systems, you can only depend on yourself. The cops have their own families to worry about. GET OUT OF TOWN. Have a place to get away from riots and looters. Just having a gun will not deter those in desperation, you will become a victim if you do not EDUCATE and PREPARE yourself. If you have fears, get over them, this will save your life.
7)Keep friends or family involved in plans or evac. (have a meeting place)
8)Most people do not know how to survive in the wilderness(educate yourself/take a class)
9)keep yourself physically fit
If you want more info on weapons or training methods, endless education opportunities are availabe thru books and hands on classes. I teach survival coarses here in Arizona
It takes the same amount of training with any of the weapons you mentioned. Educate yourself and continue training. Training is what will save you not your 12ga. Train in a way that replicates any scenerio you may face and have to react to. Getting a 12ga. is an excellent choice for "home protection" if used in conjunction with "bird shot" there isnt a room in your house that is big enough for the shot to expand wide enough that you'll miss your target.
Have you seen the visionvictory channel on Youtube? Daniel has some great videos on surviving through an economic downturn, you should consider checking them out.
I live in Alberta, Canada, and just bought a Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader (going camping means having to deal with bears, so I thought I'd buy something that was functional and looked bad-ass at the same time). Haven't shot it yet, but I'm looking forward to it! Kudos on the purchase, I'm sure you'll enjoy your new hobby. ;D
umm well im in anchorage lmao i think it will be dangerous if there is a big collapse but yea the other night a woman killed a man right across the road where i live
You could not have picked a better weapon the 500 series is a great weapon to start and finish with. Just remember you will react as you practice and practice is the key. First of all you need a trigger lock or case lock. I have several years of military and police training and would be glad to help you get started. Don't worry the fear will go away that is very natural. I am glad to see you are being proactive with a situation that I think we all fear is working itself out of hand.
I'm very happy to see someone of a conflicted view feel this way and prepare this way. Thank you very much for your post. It's nice to see an intelligent AMERICAN have this view and support such an issue. You could have went either direction. But unlike most of the US you decided to face your fears, not be a victim and use your second amendment rights. It is our right to prepare for the worse. Get good with your weapon demcad and be a romodel to those in your similare situation.
The only way to conquer fear of guns is through understanding and training (learn about them and shoot them).
You may be scared right now, but I guarantee you that if someone intends to harm you or your family and that gun is near you, you will pick it up and defend your family, therefore conquering any fear you might have had.
Glad to see you bought one. I will warn you though, if you can conquer your fear, it can be a very addicting and expensive hobby very quickly.
Why are you affraid of guns? Guns don't kill anyone anymore than pencils cause mistakes in spelling! Be more scared of the people that don't want you to have a gun!
Your strange if you are a democrat and you support and believe in the second ammendment (own a gun(s). Like all of the rappers that wrap about there 9mm and all voted for Obama.
i have one of these myself....but mine is set up as a turkey gun with pistol grip buttstock and forearm in camo.if you intend this for personal protection in the home i suggest a pisol grip and shorter barrel for manueuverability around the house....it will have a wider shot pattern but with 00 buck over a short range...it is nasty...you should also get a handgun...i prefer the 45 acp for self defense...get lots of time in at the range and good luck.
the crips and bloods arent republican...and neither are my hillbilly relatives in wv that hunt all the time. i however am and i think its amazing how the left portray guns as more of a threat than the lowlife scum they fight so hard to get lenient prison terms for.
Ya. I've talked to one of my friends lately that that shoots probly every weekend. I asked him "Have you ever met a democrat who shoots guns and owns them?" He said he has only met one in his life time. I thought that was pretty funny. But ya, ppl who are democrat and shoot and own guns, i just don't get them.
i guess it depends on where you live...my family in wv are democrats but they grew up hunting...its a way of life for them. gun ownership is a choice i made because it is my responsibility as a man to protect myself and my loved ones.a woman i work with lost a daughter and husband to a rapist that stabbed them to death,if they had a gun they may have stopped him.they didnt and the father and mother got stabbed trying to save her,he died and the mother almost did. thats why i own guns.
yes i am...i gun toting...right to life ...free speech lovin republican....that will kill anybody that tries to hurt the people i love....any more questions?
Great video! Black shotgun owners unite! : D I recently bought a Saiga 12 and it kicks ass.
I totally understand where you are coming from as I used to feel the same way about firearms. Now I look at them as necessary tools for the preservation of individual liberty, that also happen to be a a lot of fun. : )
If you're looking for a great website to learn from likeminded people check out goldismoney(dot)info My screen name is "CQC McDuck" over there.
if you need a CHEAP hand gun try the bursathunder 9MM Short ITS about 300 or 290 to buy it but its a great hand gun..hope I help you out some what...bye
hey its nice looking gun let me give some info about shot guns I don't know alot but I do know some what I am in MI I am 21 I have FIRED ALOT OF GUNS
it looks like a 12 gage it going to fecal herd to shot seeing as it gives more of a blowback when shooting it seeing as there's no stock to it the stock is to prevent blow back form shell leaving the beallo CQC or CQB rescuers you to remove the stock to use it asap and there's other stuff with it..
dude your the sort of person who should have a gun .
Ive had people try to kill me and had to fight them off with a knife, trust me when someone trys to kill you you dont think twice you want to live and you try to kill them .
your living in a country where the bad guys will be armed with guns so you would be mad not to get a gun yourself .
Ive got a load of food and I grow a load of food , none of this really scares me that much and Im planning to go to sea not for survival I just want to
"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains EVIL interference, they(guns) deserve a place of honor with all that is good." -George Washington.
Loving your gun is completely American. Thats why we are the land of the free. Tyranny always attacks the unarmed. Just like Hitler, Mau, Stalin etc. Nice shotgun by the way.
As long as you support the RIGHT to bear arms, I have no qualms with you being afraid of them. I don't smoke weed or tobacco, but I support people's right to.
Practice with your shotgun. One way to get more comfortable is to practice breaking it down and putting it back together. Then keep doing it untill you can do it blindfolded. Also a Shotgun is the most versatile of all the firearms and is a excellent choice for a home defense weapon. A pistol is better for concealed carry if you were to have to leave your home to go out during an emergency. just r ember what ever you get practice practice practice.
well thats a way to break yourself into guns, getting a shotgun first, you should be fine with everything else, it can be safe becuase a person that is clumbsy with a semi auto pistol can shoot themselves before they know what went wrong so a shotgun probly wasnt a bad choice since you have to cock every time and it doest have a short barrel, Ive seen people accidently point semi autos at themselves trying to fiddle with them and forget about the whole process of cocking or getting a jam out.
Recommend like the earlier poster said, build up a stock of ammo. Also, you need to learn about and practice with a variety of shotgun ammunition types. You need the lead shot for target practice, but also purchase and practice with buckshot and slug. You will find that the shotgun is among the most versatile of weapons for this reason, and you will have alot of fun taking it out and shooting.
Good choice on the shotgun. It is the IDEAL self defense weapon, hands down. So many dudes rushed out to by M4gery weapons and AKs. While I"m not against those, my Mossberg 500 is my first choice for home defense. Lead/Bird shot not likely to kill my neighbor if I gotta drop a dude. [cont'd]
Having a healthy fear of dangerous tools is good. What you're describing in a clinical condition called hoplophobia, the irrational (paralyzing) fear of weapons. Congratulations in taking the first step in overcoming your fear, you've broken what I call the gun barrier. By this time next year, you'll have added two rifles (careful, it's addictive;)
Good choice on the shotgun, just remember to buy a few boxes of ammo every month. keep it in the variety, slugs, 00, birdshot, sabot, target...
Don't be afraid of it. It's just a tool. Your car is a tool too. A car can kill you or someone else if used incorrectly. But you RESPECT the car. That's the key. Respect the gun (I'm sure you do) but learn what it can and cannot do. Once you understand it, and respect it, you will not be afraid of it anymore.
Good job. Current situation in US is mirror image of what happened in Bosnia, and if it wasn't for hunting rifles and handguns, we'd all be dead. Get in touch with ex-marines and learn a bit about tactics, flanking, etc. When bullets are flying Rambos die first.
Good for you. I just bought my first handgun last week too. Smith & Wesson 9 mm. We also need to show the gov't that we won't give up our 2nd Amendment rights.
im proud of you bro good step do get a .22 and practice in the army we had 3 steps to our training crawl/walk/run your crawling now 1 month from now you will be walkin 3 months from now you will be running i have a lot of toys i got fear to its not guns i hunt awhole bunch im in a hunting club here in florida its spring gobbler season now i have dogs but i dont like mean dogs thats my fear and im as country as jethro on beverly hillbilys

The only way to overcome a fear, is to face it.
But I'm sure you know that.
Use that fear to instill the gun safety rules.
If they're followed to a T, then there would be no way to accidentally hurt someone.

Watcher3223 1 year ago
@salemhodson
Watcher3223 1 year ago

Don't forget rule 4.
"Be certain of your target and what's beyond."
Watcher3223 1 year ago
Because of your lack of experience and understanding, you fear guns.
No big deal; human beings have a tendency to fear and even be repulsed by things they do not understand. It is a defensive response because, if you aren't certain about something, you don't know if it is safe or could be harmful to you so you default to avoidance in cautious self-preservation.
You have two choices:
1. Face the fear through education, experience and understanding.
2. Leave it be.
Watcher3223 1 year ago
I've watched a couple of your gun videos, and I'm really proud to hear that you've conquered your own personal fear of guns. :) I understand exactly what you're talking about in regards to the economy; around the time you uploaded this video, we actually had an armed robbery at one of our local banks! Apparently, the robbers' intentions were motivated by the trouble with the economy.
Anyway, keep up the good work with your videos!

Being around it and handling it in your home will give you a better feel for the ergonomics of the weapon and you will learn how to appreciate it more than fearing it.
mxm190 2 years ago
Your transition from being "freaked out" about guns to being a gun enthusiast and responsibly using guns is fantastic.
Guns are like fire in a way- they can be good and useful in trained hands or can be destructive in the hands of the untrained and emotional.
Probably over 90% of American males eventually WILL shoot guns (as should be) either in a good, safe situation or in a bad situation.
Teach Americans to shoot safely while controlling their adrenalin and many problems will be solved.

ROFLpwnedvideos 2 years ago
Miles City Montana here-LnL AP-Hey demcad-are you planning to use this particularly for home defense or do you plan on taking to the field with this weapon? I have a 870-I found that you can get a rifled barrel-grooves to promote accuracy when firing a slug-evidentally they can be efficient up to 200 yards-that could really help extend the range and effectiveness of that weapon....

good for you man, im glad to see that you took on your fear instead of perpetuating it. i was taught to shoot when i was a small child and have the utmost respect for guns. but as a result i have never been scared of them because i understand them. dont fear it, respect it. that gun could save your life if you know how to use it properly. shoot it as much as you can, dont just put it away. a gun is worthless if you cant use it.

everone should fear, not the gun but what that gun can do, when i hold a gun i get a lil nervous and anxious. but that is the respect i have for that gun. respect for your weapon is as vital as the ammo. i rely on an AR10. i practice firing from the hip. in the event your aquisition time is limited. and quick aquisition.a 7.62*51 cartridge is a one shot drop. their not getting up. as far as shotguns go, i advice buck and slug shot. depending on your reaction time and aim.

Good choice of defensive arm. Take care when choosing the right ammunition. Don't listen to the people who tell you to use bird shot for defense, it is mostly useless for self-defense. (Keep in mind that Dick Cheney shot an old lawyer in the face with bird shot and he lived to tell about it) Use some form of Buck shot.

remember this, humans are capable of incedible things, humans are also capable of incredibley aweful things.

Personal protection=education
1)Know your enemy (who will I be protecting myself from?)
2)Have enough supplies in your home to last a minimum 3 days.
3)keep a bug out bag in your vehicle(everything needed to survive for minimum 3 days away from your home)
4)Know your local area(back roads are mandatory)
5)Have a plan(your home will not be safe if your town or city is under seige.)
6)Have an escape route(backroads come into play here)
rightsideoftruth 2 years ago
It takes the same amount of training with any of the weapons you mentioned. Educate yourself and continue training. Training is what will save you not your 12ga. Train in a way that replicates any scenerio you may face and have to react to. Getting a 12ga. is an excellent choice for "home protection" if used in conjunction with "bird shot" there isnt a room in your house that is big enough for the shot to expand wide enough that you'll miss your target.

Simbaah777 2 years ago

[cont'd]

Not an easy choice for some people to start home protection, but time for it.
The truth is not always what we want.
BUT...It is -What it is...
