FYI: Digging/kicking behavior (often after eliminating in non-home territory) is a natural dominance/territory claiming display. Although not problematic in itself, it CAN set off other less socialized dogs. I just trained my guy away from the habit because his paws are so damn big, he leaves plate sized divots in the lawn when he does it. Fine looking dog, in any case. Looks like you invest time interacting with him, which, sadly some owners don't do. Thanks for sharing your guy with us!

Our Akita has quite bad hip problems now but the old timer is 11 years old! I think the reason for that is that we still give him lots and lots of exercise. I don't think he would still be as active if he didn't get lots of walkies.

I have owned 3 and every time I see one like this, loved, honored, respected and trained..I get chills. They are so powerful but my male was "attacked" by an out of control Dachshund who broke its tooth off in Ichibans leg...Ichiban simply bent over, gently put his teeth around the dachsaunds neck and held him, looking at us like, "what do you want me to do w/him? LOL, we were cursed by a neighbor who let his Dachsund run free. My dog was on a short leash. People are so IGNORANT !

even if your dog killed it it would have been the other owners responsibility since it wasn't on a leash. That's great that yours doesn't have a nasty temper like my akita mix has, she gets mean haha. I want a pure bred for my next dog and hope i will be able to train it so it doesn't hate other dogs.

You have to socialize your dog to not be aggressive towards dogs.... Its not really training.

You can socialize and train mutts too, so I dont get your point about the purebred part =/

i dunno how advanced the hip problem is in your dog.

my akita was born with hip problems..

he maded to live 8 years... normal rate for akitas with hip problems is 5 years,according to our vet.

there are special alimentation, so they fortify the muscles in their legs. that always help

I would get a female instead of another male. I had a male lab and a male akita. They got along but thats because we got the akita when he was a pup and the lab put him in his spot right away.

i think thats a cool weight cause he will start to pack more on, just dont make him fat hahah, he eats winalot tinned food he likes tuna and chicken flaver alot he is kinda picky too, we mix up with dry food, sometimes he leaves te dry food, then we mix fresh chicken or tuna with its juice around the dry food, he cleans the bowl leaving it shiny hahaha

Cool music from Last of the Mohicans . LOL I loved that movie!!! Oh and I love Akita's also. :) They get a bad rap but they really sweet and loving dogs in the right persons hands. I have always had rotties, but I have really thought on an Akita. A friend of mine has one, he is such a sweetheart. I love to visit and get lots of Akita snuggles and kisses. :) Wonderful dogs.

I am in tears as he looks just like my 13 y/o Female that I had put down 5/29/07. She was our heart and one of the best dogs. We still have Ichiban, a beauful black male who mourns her. We can't decide whether to get another ...that may make him worse.
