How is it that when the spider stings frodo the stabbing thing obviously stabs him....and when frodo wakes up in the orc tower...he has no sign AT ALL that he got stabbed?
Oh dear lord. I have nothing against Harry Potter, but if the fans don't stop saying that everything that bares similarity to it is a rehash, or is doing what Harry Potter did 'all over again', I'mma seriously blow up or something. These books were written in the early 1900's(ish). The movies are based upon those books, this very scene is based upon one in the books, and the Harry Potter spider scene was based on books written at least eighty years AFTER. So no. This doesn't copy HP. Ok? Ok.
I remember clear as day sitting in the theatre watching this scene and everyone was on baited breath as Shelob was about to make Frodo his next meal... and then... Everyone was wildly cheering because Sam shows up in truly badass form and I swear this went on for like thirty seconds.
All the years of effort put into making the horror genre the most frightening as can be, and this one scene utterly destroys them all - without even being IN the horror genre!
Seriously, I spent years watching mainly horror and suspense thrillers, and not one scene in any of those movies even came close to creeping me out as much as this. Props to everyone involved who made this what it was! (literally hundreds so I won't even try to single any one cast or crew member out lol)
When I saw this in the theater, people in the theater started laughing during the part where Shelob is sneaking above Frodo. Other people in the theater started looking around going, "WTF are these dumbasses laughing at?"
@blackswanguy Yes sir. You are correct. The hobbit that carried a Ring of Pure Evil and Destruction for God knows how long despite numerous near death experiences and a general decline in personal well being due to the aforementione ring...is a coward. That's why he kept going. Because he's a coward. Because the only way to be strong is through swordplay and violence.
Okay, I know Aragorn rules and Sam's just the best, but I think Frodo deserves SOME recognition at the very least.
Oh, God. This is like my worst nightmare. Props to you, Sam. You have more guts than I do. I think I would have passed out if I saw a spider that big.
Once I got into a fight with a spider like that. It was hiding in the bottom shelf of my refrigerator, and leapt out at me while I was trying to get some arugala. I fended it off by waving around my salad spinner until I was able to trick it into eating a crouton, which killed it.
the natives know the difference between a small spider and a large one. out of all the animals there, mythical creatures or not. joba fofi is the most feared of them! believe! people and scientist believe!
This was probably the best scene in the entire trilogy. A goddamn hobbit from nowhere-ville, facing off against a fucking ancient spawn of Ungoliant, with the phial of Galadriel in one hand and a magic blade in the other. I can't believe this shit.
Just think, in the original books Shelob was too much trouble for Sauron to deal with, and in fact Morgoth (a damned god!) coulded handle her either. Then we get a midget with hairy feet...
Morgoth had Shelob's mum Ungoliant to deal with - she may have been a bit bigger than Shelob (just my guess). Sam has the star-glass containg the lioght of the star Earendil (= basically, the planet Venus); Morgoth had to manage without that.
@shooterman13 You don't have to like it, but it would be pretty damn nice of you not to go around offending people who do. It's personal taste and preference. You're allowed to hate it, but we are more than allowed to like it. It doesn't make us nerds. It doesn't make us anything less than you. So if you please, just go away.

Darn it, what is that sound that the Phial makes, the first time I heard it sounded incredibly familiar as if I'd heard it somewhere before ROTK, yet after all these years I still haven't figured out where.
@pollaayxoxo Don't think so. Be serious - Aragog is even bigger than Shelob... and remember about Aragog's huge family full of giant and small spiders. Shelob has no chance with Aragog, really. :)
Anyone else notice the mistake at about 2:30. Right after he stabs shelob in the eye in the next shot his sword is in the opposite hand. Thought I would just point that out.
@TheSuirad You aint lied about that statement, there's some big mommas in central africa. that crap these scientist put on the news are large spiders, but none compare to j'ba fofi, thats one big and dangerous spider, watch your back-your sides and above when you decide to visit that part of africa.
