  • 'TIS the last rose of summer,

Left blooming alone ; All her lovely companions Are faded and gone ; No flower of her kindred, No rose-bud is nigh, To reflect back her blushes,Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one To pine on the stem ; Since the lovely are sleeping,

Go sleep thou with them. Thus kindly I scatter

Thy leaves o'er the bed, Where thy mates of the garden Lie scentless and dead....

    Thomas Moore (1779-1852)

  • hi i love this tune although i can play a tin whistle nothing comes close to andre i broke my neck and travelled to berlin to hear the maestro,i aint got much to live for but i play this tune a lot and it gives me hope as i guess thats all ive left randal

  • hardluck98 keep up the faith! You have a lot to live for. Yes it is easier for me to say because I am not in your shoes and going through it, but we all have our issues and problems. You seem like a fighter and after all this life is short and passes us by like a dream. May God richly bless you.

  • Immer wieder wunderschön an zu hören. Toller Flötenspieler - ich bekomme jedesmal Gänsehaut, wenn ich es höre...

  • regalenme una flauta irlandesa plis

  • Wonderful!

  • Pinks during only a moment.... it's the reason we found them so pretty ...

  • Let me keep it simple : Boy ! y'all pretty stupid fighting bout politics instead enjoying this music

  • mijn moeder vond dit een mooi nummer ze luisterde graag naar deze muziek.

op de crematie ook gedraaid.een hele mooie en fijne herinnering

  • Pity about the silly applauding at the start, this began in the USA and spread like a bad dose of the `flu.

  • Funny how all of you Europeans moan and groan over the US.

  • @karozans

Moaning?, I would call it common-sense.

  • I wasn't talking about the applause or even the video for that matter. I was talking about your distaste of the US.

You probably can't go an entire day without whining about the US for some reason or another.

  • Moaning?, that`s nothing compared with the relatives of the countless thousands of Iraqis and Aghans, now those innocents have something to moan about.

It may be news to you but your various governments has made your name mud throughout the world. Lots of your citizens would agree, I know I have been to the US on many occasions and they are of like mind.

  • I have come to the conclusion that you are a 15 year old brat that is repeating what his mommy told him. Also you a liberal since you said, "various governments has made your name mud". By that you probably mean George Bush screwed everything up, and Obama is a god. Since you know nothing about history please look up the 7 previous US wars along with their casualty stats and you will see a trend. I am going to leave that up to you since you think you are so smart.

  • Proof of how wrong you are I am 72 have seen places you have never seen the sky over, experience is a wonderful teacher.

I have no quarrel with the ordinary US citizens but what a lousy lot of politicians your country has bred. When you read as much and seen as much then your opinion will be respected. Slan agus Beannacht.

  • Lorgain,

Have to agree totally. The biggest disaster to hit the world in the last 30 years was Bush. He & his killer friends (Chainey etc) manufactured a tissue of lies to allow the killing, torture & maiming of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women & children in Iraq & Afghanistan. If there is a life hereafter I'm sure these guys will experience Hell at first hand.

  • @clarebannerman Good on you a chara, I sometime wonder at the naievety of the Yanks, my relatives in the US are a mixed lot regarding politics, left and right, my God have you ever tried to point out the obvious to a right-winger, [and I dont mean Oisin McConville], well, they now know the consequences.

Disturbing the hornets nest leads to stung ass and along with the Brits that is what they are getting.

    .

  • Ah there is the European style we all know and despise. Walking around like your shit doesn't stink. Somehow you think it is impossible for me to gain the same knowledge as you.

You are right, every single politician in the US is full of shit and needs to be tried for financial crimes against the citizens of the US.

But you like 50% of the US think bigger government is the answer. "Some people don't have healthcare, lets just vote it in. Some people don't have TV's, lets just make a law."

  • While your intentions maybe in the correct place your brain is not. You create massive government programs and vote 1000's of people into office and give them all the power in the world and you are surprised when the corruption starts.

So wherever you live (I would imagine France by the cowardly BS coming from you and clare). I reluctantly hope that one day you and your liberal friends get to watch a terrorist act in the future. One that claims thousands of people you know.

  • A definite brain transplant required here, karozans my oul friend, I am from the land of the song presently on this Thread, Ireland, and before this Thread degenerates into, "The last row of summer",

I will leave you to prepare for your journey to Afghanistan to sort out the towel heads, so, au revoir or pog me thon, no just Slan, adios amigo.

  • So that explains everything. You are from Ireland. I have to admit you can type very well for someone who is drunk 98% of the time.

  • I wouldn't shout too loud about that ---your friend (Mad Dog Bush) was a roaring alcoholic in his day --although it seemed to me & the rest of the world that he was on drugs for the past eight years --- a dangerous fool surrounded by a shower of war criminals.

  • Very poor insight on your part.

    Bush probably has dementia.

As for me and the rest of real Americans, we don't give a flying f*** what you or the rest of the world thinks about Bush, or Americans in general.

PS. I am no fan of Bush. At year six Bush was on track to become one of the greatest presidents in US history. When he abandon his fiscal conservatism is when he lost me. Do you recall that when he was in office the stock market was 14,400, maybe you forgot?

  • @clarebannerman Oh god how the hell did this debate end up on here?

  • Sorry to put you down again, I have been a tee-totaller all of my life, relax karo oul hand, and enjoy the rest of your stay in Afghanistan.

  • You stand up to me and act tough but in the face of true evil you become the cowardly lion. You pander to the people who want to kill you and you fight the people who want to protect you. But hey that's fine with me. I live in the most powerful nation ever (until Obama destroys it). With great power comes great responsibility. I will continue to do what is right and when people like you complain I will ignore it. I said it once, I'll say it again. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

  • I can always send you the cure, May your Gods bless you.

  • i haveloved this tune i played on the whistle for my only love CARMEL JENNINGS i came home to find her dead and i loved her so she never knew id cancer and she did take me into her chapel as she promised but not to carry her ingod i miss her so

  • Beautiful song! I gather you've lost a loved one? RIP.. This song should help! Peace.

  • Comment removed

  • @clarebannerman I appreciate the many tunes and comments which you have uploaded for us so don't take it amiss if query the extent of Sir John Stevensons involvement. According to my biography of Thomas Moore he wrote the words specifically for the traditional Irish tune "The Groves of Blarney". It was his particular objective to use traditional Irish Music and his words were published as a collection of 'Irish Melodies'

  • Would be appropriate to play at Edward Kennedys funeral.

  • I have known this song for a long time. Earliest distinct memory is in the Leroy Anderson Irish Suite. Rieu performance sounds like I have thought it should sound particularly the embellishments, improvisations, etc by the Irish Whistle player. Why is this arrangement familiar?

    Wally Tabor

  • Great song; superb performance. I regret only that I can never hear it again for the first time. I cried.

  • 'This the last rose of Summer,

    Left blooming all alone,

    All her lovely companions

    Are faded and gone.

    No flower of her kindred,

    No rose bud is nigh,

    Oh! who would inhabit

    This bleak world alone?"
