I would say these are more like tostadas, because he is frying the torilla, and the ground meat, the refried beans, and the lettuce. I have to say this is the American taco, since there really isn't a lot of yellow cheese in Mexican cuisine. It still looks delicious.

I am going to have to check out your method that is between the cheap fast food and homemade reciepes. I have tried lots of ways over the decades but have never made a great or bought a great taco at a mexucab eatert. It is very hard to find good hamburger that does not come out in clumps and tastes good, the quaility sucks big time now. Two other dish's that I can not find a good recipe for is chow mein and how to cook hash browns from fresh potatoes that do not come on gooey in the middle.

Haha, and I thought I was the only one who used re-fried beans in my tacos sometimes. Another thing I do from time to time is add in some of my own created Mexican corn. Kind of makes an entire meal all together in one shell. Good stuff, and I'll have to try the thin shaved lettuce too... great idea right there!

I think his mistake was using the words "Mexican tacos" which implies that there's some reasonable authenticity to the recipe or that there's a similar taco found in Mexico. You can find tacos dorados (fried tacos) in Mexico, but they're fried with a beef, pork, or chicken inside. The tortilla isn't fried first. You won't find ground beef as an option, and you'll NEVER find them adding canned beans or cheddar cheese to them. The tortilla is about the only thing Mexican about the recipe.

Oh, fer cryin' out loud. What people seem to forget is that there are regional differences in food. One Mexican buddy of mine makes tacos pretty much like this, and another one who is from a different part of Mexico makes them another way, and says this way is wrong. Which is pretty much like an American from the northwest telling another from the southeast that the way they make a particular kind of sandwich is wrong.
