  • 0:58 - 1:11 that sounded like Paul Stanley WTF? lol

  • great song, but the verse strangely reminds me of "i'm too sexy"

  • Why can't dave's voice sound like this on the new album? The production even sounds better on this song than the new album, And it's from 1996! Thanks G.B.

  • This could have been on 1984!!!!

  • I always thought this was Hagar. That's why I never wanted to listen to it. But once I heard it was Roth I listened to the whole thing and I like it.

  • Wolfgang VH: what a joke... what's next, KISS featuring Nick Simmons?

  • @keithopulis Hey, don't laugh! Nick Simmons ROCKS!!! He reminds me alot of Jim Morrison!

  • man o man did they fuck up by not releasing a whole album with Roth in 96, this may be their best.

  • @alucardhadowlaw ...and ladies and gentlemen, there it is...in black and white...

    Right the fxxk on.

  • Trampoliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine

  • i hate those changes but eddie will not heard anybody he is going forward whit the his son ! take or leave it fans !

  • @zoident Michael Anthony aint that fat as wolfgang is... And he can be cause he's old man as you said, wolfie is just spoiled teenager...

  • THIS is the last great song by Van Halen. When first heard it I was hating the first 1:20 of it...then that main chorus came rushing in and raised the hair on my arms...."Do You Believe?"...

  • @coconutstaple Michael magic.

  • @theyetidude - agreed...although I must correct myself. I liked the guitar intro...it was Roth's intro vocals that I didn't like until the main chorus came in.

  • ate some pussy at my buds bachelor party to this song i willove it forever vh original lineup rocks always.

  • @ZIONFIN - "ate some pussy at my buds bachelor party to this song i willove it forever" ..and so will the STD you got from stipper pussy that will also be with you forever.

  • @ZIONFIN

i bet that whore gave you something to remember her by....ya friggin limpnoodle jew

  • The new song's suck. Give me, me wise magic

  • this really is a belter of a tune!

  • the last stunningly bad ass van halen tune.. get used to that and enjoy the new stuff for what it is.

  • I think it's a fair effort, if they deem to tour this dismal country I shaln't complain if they play this

  • I remember hearing this right after it was released. This has Dave singing WAY out of his range. It's like he was trying too hard to get back in, singing like Sam. Disappointing song. i hope they leave it off the set list for the tour. At $175 a seat (saw them for $10 in 1982) they'd best leave this one off.

  • @tommyrock69 Nope. The song is good. Dave owns. Eddie owns. Alex owns. Michael is there. That's all.

  • @StuffedGames do you belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeev... if you could seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. that MA is OWNING

  • FUCK MA HE HAD ENOUGH LUCK IN ONE LIFETIME!! how many fat average joes get to play with rock stars LIKE ED DAVE AND AL

  • @zoident ha ha ha ha. Fuckin brilliant comment!

  • @loganzone The fat kid is Eddie's son so I don't think he's going anywhere soon, do you....

  • Get rid of the fat kid!

  • @LoganZone101 yeah so we can get that FAT old man back

  • I know it's David Lee Roth singing lead vocals, but isn't that Sammy Hagar singing backup?

  • @T10041 No it's Michael ANthony

  • used to wonder what the whole pre-solo, zen headed my way/ buddist riff inner ear thing was in some deep philosophic manner, but then i realized its just DLR doing his thing.

  • I came back to this song to make an objective comparison with Tattoo. Not missing the bass as Wolfgang clearly has inherited some of the musical talent of the brothers but my God how much I miss Micheal in the chorus.

  • great song. they sound here as they shoud

  • hearing this... it's like David Lee Roth never left, they just 'fit' together as a band so well

  • They shoulda reunited when they did these songs. This sounds more VH than what they've got now. Shame how Ed and Al screwed over Mikey.

  • This was clearly a repurposed track from the Balance Era. I wish the new album sounded like this because Damn...

  • A bigger loss than Anthony's bass is definitley his bakground vocals. I think wolfie can play anything anthony can on bass.

  • @blkmustang71 I agree dude

  • @blkmustang71 Wolfie is stepping up to the fuckin plate for sure. Hes like Tim Tebow or something. As much as it dosent add up, it is working.

  • I hope A Different Kind of Truth has an edgier/darker sound like Me Wise Magic with the comic charisma of Top Jimmy.

  • Dickhead dutchhanes Spammy Gaybear aint a patch on the master!

  • shame it isn't Sammy singing this song. This song should have been included on Balance, along with Crossing Over.

  • Where's 'Volume 2'?

  • Comment removed

  • I'll never forget the excitement when I first heard this!

Tattoo and Shes The Woman... deep fans know the deal !

For the critics... what have YOU written?

  • Agree and this song blows "Tattoo" away IMHO. Anthony is a huge part of the VH sound.

It's a shame they didn't even offer him the chance to be back in the band after all these years.

  • @Imperialmusicfan I also agree. this song and 'can't get this stuff no more' are much better than 'tattoo'. michael anthony will be missed in backup vocals. i love van halen but hate to saybut they sound like a Nickleback cover band after hearing 'Tattoo' I hope the other songs are better.

  • @nymike06 Ditto. Even if Dave's voice lost a step since their heydey, this song stomps all over Tattoo. Still has energy and swagger, and GOOD backing vocals, unlike Tattoo. No comparison. I am pleased DLR is finally back. Let's hope they chose a sub-par single or this new album will be a trainwreck. Still more excited for this new 1 than anything featuring Sammy on vocals.

  • @Opaque47 Perfectly stated. I hope they play this live on the tour. They didn't do it in '07-'08. This song kicks ass compared to Tattoo.

  • @Opaque47 Yeah, the backing vocals is clearly missed in Ttattoo'. If 'Tattoo' is foreshadowing the rest of the record, this will be a bomb w/ a capital B. 'We wise magic' has bite and more of a darker VH touch. Very good song. 'She's the woman' will be on this new record, but that is an old demo. At least I know 1 good song will be on it. I hope the rest are decent, but so far so bad. Kind of get the feeling why Warner brothers dropped them from the label.

  • @Imperialmusicfan I remember when this song came out. It just kind of flew under the radar considering it was a new release by VH w/ DLR since 1984. Imagine if this song was the new release off the new material that is about to be released? It would be a smash. What I really don't like about "Tattoo' is that Edddie's guitar work sounds so digital, product of this horrible production. I'm also happy to see DLR & VH reunite, but so far 'Tattoo' is not good. Sucks to admit, got to keep it real.

  • @nymike06

Indeed, I remember hearing this on the radio a few times, there was even talk of a new album, but of course nothing happened back then, unfortunately....and yeah, I too believe that if this song came out today as the first song off of the album it'd be huge!!

Oh well, I still have hope for the new disc..we'll see....

  • 0:28--->0:31 = hands of god!

  • One of their better songs, and one the my favourite songs from my childhood.

  • I really hope they play this song as well as "cant get this stuff no more" on the 2012 tour.. Here's hoping!

  • Jojojessie69 ....Sammy and Van halen had more top hits

but original van halen sold twice as many albums, number one

hits dont generaly line your bank account.

Saw the first three Van Halen tours, and Saw the van hagar reunion (it sucked) and i am a sammy fan from norcal. i am going to take my son to see the new tour in april. at least this time i know the show will be soud out. Van hagar sold 9,000 tics that night. pathetic.

  • I dont know if it was the air in the room the mics drums tuned perfectly this might have been there best sounding recording ever WOO~!! Eddies 5150 studio rocks

  • There's a reason David and Eddie are like pb and j, scotch and soda, sex and amyl nitrate.

  • hopefully the new album will sound like this.

  • this song is like someone opened a can of whoop ass

  • No one can replace Dave period!

  • Your right but if it sounds like anything like this then its gona RIP...

  • David Lee Roth is King...Thats all I got to say about that..

  • @jojojesse69 Your right about Royal but if the knew album sounds anything like this then its gona RIP.......

  • you guys know that this song was played on a peavey wolfgang with the stieneburg transtrem on it right

  • VAN HALEN + DAVID LEE ROTH = MAGIC

  • VH aint gonna be the same without MA's background vocals sadly.

  • @gurblegurble1 sadly they are going to be better !!!!

  • @gurblegurble1 they wouldnt be the same with him, theyre alot older.

  • @gurblegurble1 the background vocals sound shitty on tattoo

  • Don't you trust me? Me Wise magic.

  • without mike, there would be no bass.

  • just shut up and listen.

  • yeah, it is sad. the greatest RR giutar player ever. and the greatest RR drummer of all time.

  • Hearing this makes me think Dave could of actually done just as good as Sammy with 5150, and had Dave not let his ego and Eddie's let his mindset destroy the original line up they could have done amazing things together... Sad really...

  • This song beats any of that pop shit they did with Hagar! I hope this is what we can expect on the new album with Dave...

  • My three favorite Van Halen songs (and guitar solos) are the last three on this compilation: Humans Being / Me Wise Magic / Can't Get This Stuff No More. I thought they sounded as good as ever and Eddie was still breaking tremendous ground in this period. It amazes me that these recordings are considered a flop.

  • I like this song a lot. The musical portion was their best work in years, and it was great to have DLR back with them. But there are points on this song where DLR sounds like he is struggling a lot. You can he just pulled this one out of the bag and it's good, but vocally, he doesn't sound like he's in peak shape.

  • @orlandofriend "The vocals" cover notes in 4,FOUR, QUATRO octaves. Think about that!

  • I truly don't understand some of you folks. The brothers DID NOT write the lyrics. They wrote the music. Dave wrote the lyrics and the vocal melodies. He always said they should split everything 4 ways as they would either sink or swim as a band. Even when he did all the merchandise design and programs etc he still split it 4 ways. Oh, for the folks who claim he has no range I suggest you listen a bit more carefully. Vocally, this song covers 4 different octaves.

  • I was so psyched when this came out...

  • They became musically complete with Sammy. Vocal Melody is needed for a riff and Sammy provided it. Just my opinion but the music the art is more important to me than the entertainment aspect of a frontman. That is something that Pop audiences crave is the charisma, the glamour, and commercial quality of appearance and teen appeal not the artistry or the composition or the quality of a melody vocal or instrumental. Music and lyrics areimportant in pop but not without publicity and politics.

  • shut the fuck up hagar and roth were both kick ass in the band

  • Sammy Hagar turned into Van Halen MOR shite, they sounded like Foreigner or Heart. They would never have recorded awful ballads like When its Love, or Why cant this be love with Dave in the Band.

  • I know what you´re thinking, what you´re thinking is easy to see! LOL

  • This just proves why these fuckers are destined to be together. They have hurt my heart as a fan, tore me down and built me up-i love them-just wish they would get this shit together. The Van Halen Clan with Dave Roth-The Best- Although I would like to see Mike back on Bass

  • this song is proof that no matter how long the vh bros and dave are apart they will always be able to write good sounding music together.

  • EDDIE RULES!!!!

  • c'mon dave give me a break...Ok ONE BREAK COMIN' UP! Thanks for this one guys. We really did miss you all these years.

  • Plus Sammy commented that Joe writes guitar immediately to lyrics that it takes Eddie awhile. Eddie is writing master pieces not just fillers with a fancy solo with lots of effects. Love Joe but Eddie is king and van halen is best with David Lee Roth!!!

  • It doesn't surprise me to hear Sammy Hagar fans putting DLR down. Saying Dave can't hit the high note. I love Sammy but he chases the high note so much it becomes monotone. I think he looses the groove singing over the top. I think finish what you started is his best work vocally. Satch is a great guitarist but I find myself waiting for the solo when EVH has it from the second the song begins.

  • I love the trans-trem, but I hate Steinbergers. Does anyone know if they make a trans-trem or similar device for standard guitars. I'd love to swap my Floyd Rose for a trans-trem.

  • @rbilleaud ed has the best play of a trans trem, summer nights.

  • @rbilleaud Jimmy Page had a similar gadget from a company called "TransPerformance" in a Les Paul in the Coverdale Page era. You can hear it in the intro to Absolution Blues.

  • @PutItAway101 That album rules Coverdale Page!!

  • this is such a gem

  • Now THIS is rock and roll! THIS is Van Halen. I love, love all the albums with Sammy and am glad they went that way at the time. But to come back full circle in 1996 with THIS. Me Wise Magic was worth the wait. What the true crime in all this is, to hear this song and then what?? Gary Cherone?? It's only been what, FIFTEEN F*CKIN YEARS since Me Wise Magic. All I'm saying is, this new one with Dave FINALLY coming out had better be the shit... I'm just sayin....

  • Damn this is beautiful titts!!!! Can't wait for their new CD. At least we got these 2 new DLR/VH gems from best of!! Can't get this stuff no more, don't think so. New DLR/VH CD coming soon!!!!

  • justin bieber is now..the lead singer on the new van halen album..backed up by.gaga and old school madona..plus..jim morison....and i even heard adam ant sings one...

  • When I was a kid, I wanted to be David Lee Roth and now with today's technology it could very well be possible!

  • Fuck Van Hagar. It's All about Diamond Dave. Man I went to the Reunion tour back in '08 and Fuck after what 20 years? Man They were kicking ass. Awesome.

  • I love that their are people that actually think this is Sammy Hagar. This is a David Lee Roth song.

  • yeap.............this sounds like Sammy Haggar

  • @contact1araya Dude if u cant tell the difference between David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagars voices you loose the right to comment on Van Halen songs. Infact you loose the right to comment on all music except Justin Bieber

  • @FuctAirlines lol, ahhh.

  • @FuctAirlines .......thats right

  • 2:50 huh? ummm.... thats al man, no big deal. i have often said that al is the king of RR drums, he is. neil pert or peart, is the second best drummer. in my history of listening enjoyment.

if VH puts out a new album, it will be the greatist thing in RR since................VH. there is no young chump like, ahhhh sorry dude i can't recall your name, that took SRV's place. it's almost like that movie, "crossroads" or something? steve vai and that karate kid.

  • Agree, VH doesn't use that logo no more :)

  • I am sorry Vanhalen and Roth are married no one can replace none of them this is Vanhalen!

  • I'm seriously digging the key change at 2:50. I play drums off and on and love the way Alex pulls this sound off.

  • Damn this song SMOKES!! Ed is rippin' it here!!

If the new Van Halen album is anywhere near this good then we're in for a treat.

  • @tparnelli. "If" is the most important word in your statement. Just take a good listen to Dave's voice, though. I love Classic VH. But if this is all Dave can do, then I think we'll be disappointed. He has the vocal range of a cow in labor on this song.

  • @thisischavez ...And that's where the magic of the studio enters. Let Alex, Eddie and Wolfgang jam on their side while Dave writes some fine lyrics, and when he's finally about to sing...ZANG! Use some heavy auto-tunage to make it sound "decent".

  • @StuffedGames that would be quite difficult as autotune wasn't invented until 98. this was recorded 95-96

  • @ericoulthwaite Oh, thanks for the info, I didn't have idead about that. But then I guess there would be other tools responsible for setting up the audio, right?

  • @StuffedGames actually it was invented at the end of 96 but wasn't used on records till 98. Believe by Cher. I ain't to sure about other tech at the time. a pitch shifter would have made it sound digital

  • @tparnelli The only bad thing about the new Van Halen album, is Michael Anthony won't be part of it. His background vocals and Jack Daniels bass are EPIC!!!

But it would still be cool to check out some new Van Halen, and a Van Halen Tour, with David Lee Roth.

  • @1962drob

Agreed, Mikey's harmonies can't be replaced in this band but I'm still interested to hear how this new album sounds.

  • @tparnelli Me too man!!! I mean, David Lee Roth is the Voice of Van Halen. So I will definately check out the New Van Halen album. It won't be the same without Michael Anthony, but as long as Eddie can still play guitar, and Dave can still sing, it should still be good. Took awhile to accept that Sammy Hagar was part of Van Halen, but after awhile I got used to it. But I can't wait to hear Diamond Dave with Van Halen, just like the good ol days.

    ROCK ON BRO!!!!

  • @tparnelli

Only a true Van Halen fan would stick with them during the many lineup changes. Sammy and Mike were great for Van Halen's history but it looks like its not meant to be anymore, I wish them and Van Halen the best in the future.

  • @jojojesse69 For a start they had more hits with Sammy than Dave...and on goes the Sammy vs Dave^ Dave was classic but sucked live;

  • Comment removed

  • if you have to debate who is the best..you should just take your own life..just to save me the trouble...you loser

  • When using any DLR era Van Halen song, please take those fag rings off of your videos. WINGS, NOT RINGS!!!

  • @i1sum2 I like that!!!! WINGS NOT RINGS!!!!!! FUCK VAN HAGAR!!!!!!

  • @SpikeMichaels

If you don't like Van Hagar then why did you listen to it to make your comment. If you don't like someones music then it is simple....Just Don't Listen to it.

  • @terryhayes7854 ME WISE MAGIC has Dave signing, so it's not VAN HAGAR...blow me, OK? Nigga, you aint shit compared to me, and VAN HAGAR is FOR FUCKING PUSSIES!!!! SO you can suck my dick, is that cool?

  • @i1sum2

This song was on the CD that the picture of is posted.

  • @terryhayes7854 Duh. No shit Sherlock.

  • @i1sum2 You can take complain to eddie since those are the graphics of the last hits album that featured this song......I am pretty sure Eddie had something to do with picking that precise image for the record.

  • @contact1araya No, it would be Warner Bros final decision.

  • dizzy heads are going to go crazy.

  • you have to put somtething out there

  • no web site, no nothing.

  • @xomnichaserx Thats exactly what i didnt just say. Nimros!

  • awesome!!! Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome!!! Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • solo at the end always gives me chills...awesome..

  • @hipjohn Absolutely! I thought 1984 was one of their weaker albums, but this track hearkens back to the days of Van Halen 2 and Diver Down. It's just awesome in its sound and texture.

  • 2:50 Eddie PLAYING RAW RHYTHM! EDDIE IS A BADBOY, I DONT FORGET THE TIMES WHEN KNOW NE COULD PLAY LIKE HIM! INNOVATOR!

  • Can Dave do this live? Methinks a lot of wise studio magic went into this....

  • @xpaderom You know it.

  • I propose that Van Halen play the Halftime Show at the Super Bowl!!! Show these f**kers how to REALLY RAWK a crowd of thousands!!!

  • Could have pulled this off the 1984 era CD...Loved the two new songs when they came out. Bring back Michael!!!

  • What a tease this was... for one fleeting moment, VH was back....

  • Thank you god for the Eddie's harmonics!

  • Sammy needs to shut up

  • Impressively aggressive...Comparable to Poundcake! Dave is the real deal.

  • Dave + Eddie = the REAL heart & soul of Van Halen

  • ed is the king.

  • i don't see ed coming out anytime soon.

  • 27 years since 1984 and counting

  • these old farts can't hardly hold up a cane and yell at you. the "new" album should have been out by now. with mikey. i don't give a shit who sings, music is bass, guitar and drums.

  • One of the best (and my favorite VH song). Listen to Eddie's solo over the the last two minutes - ridiculous!

  • man, i've played the guitar for a long time, i'm a huge halen's fan and i dont now why, but i woke up this morning with this song in my head. i started learning this song and WTF!?!?!?!? not only this outro solo is FUCKING EPIC, but the riffs are perfect! we, guitar players, always say eddie create stunning solos but thats not totally true, his riffs are outclassed by no one!!

  • where's all this bullshit come from that the vh bros wrote daves lyrics. bollocks

  • LOVE GOD! TRUE JESUS CHRIST!

  • Louder is not loud enough! Fuck, Van halen is the best!

  • I cannot describe the grin that crossed my face the first time I heard this.

  • I wish David Lee and the Van Halen boys would get together and just make music like this forever. Sammy Hagar never was a part of this group and aside from Summer Nights, Sammy Hagar did not belong in Van Halen . This Van Hagar crap that took place on OU812 and 5150 is just plain crap.
