Don't get me wrong, these guys are not a horrible band, but they seem like just an average run of the mill doom metal band which has garnished attention for all the wrong reasons. I'm sure most of their "fans" haven't even heard of bands like Saint Vitus, Pentagram, or Witchfinder General.

@Beesson6606 Floor is a bit of an oldie but VERY influential in the field of sludge. Baroness is excellent too, but a bit more complex. Mastodon is another very high recommendation, although even more complex as of recently than Baroness. Torche is very, very heavy and sludgy and definitely worth a shot.

I heard The Sword for the first time yesterday at 8:30 AM and they are AWESOME. That night, less than 10 hours after hearing them for the very first time, me and my brother went to their concert in Seattle. We had such a good time. The whole show was amazing. Check out Grand Magus also if you haven't. Their first album is more doom/groove kinda stuff, their later stuff is more metal. Generally though they sound a lot like this, albeit a bit less Sabbathy I guess, material-wise. I like JB's vocals a lot more too. Anyways The Sword is really awesome stuff, dig this song!
