I love love love this scene and how seriously they take it. No, it's not legal, but it's kind of like their emotional part of their wedding, like a lot of people have weddings in churches, for their personal feeling of being married. The legal part comes from the marriage license and witnesses and judge/minister/etc. So, yes, they do need to do that before they are legally married. They need to do it soon, in case of an emergency or something- They aren't family legally. But absolutely cute!!!
