@pufixas One more time....none of those games were made back when this demo reel, of independent games, was assembled. The games in this clip are 6+ years old. Comparing them to any of the games you insist on listing is not a fair comparison.
C++, i know c++, c, c#, java, php and python and i can safely tell you that c++ is the best choice. If you find it difficult, start with C and work upto c++.
@TompanX yeah, this was a old comment, but, im surprised they didnt include minecraft or any of the other popular java-based games (based because minecraft does use some C++ wroten libraries).
@Dizzy2810 If you just want to learn how to program, then I would definitely say java. You will also have an easier time finding resources you can understand. Try checking out these videos [youtubeurl]watch?v=Hl-zzrqQoSE
This video is misleading games like Chrome were not written in java, just the scripting engine which does not have anything to do with 3d rendering, physics, 3d audio or controller input.
That was already discussed, years ago, and Chrome was the only one. As for FPS's in Java, there are already several that eclipse Chrome today that are 100% Java.
@cRIPticon My FPS is written in Java like Resistance Force, Jake2, Undead Arena, Night Squad 2... Chrome is not the only FPS written in Java and Megacorps Online was fully written with this language, what is wrong?
Why do you think mobile phones can't run these games?
Flash is very similar to Java. It's even more resource consuming because it's made visually and not entirely from code.
The Android operating system is made in Java, meant for mobile phones. If Android can run Flash games, why wouldn't it be able to run Java as well? Hm.
The things I saw in that video seem waaaaaaay past the capabilities of Java. I'm not saying they're not possible to program, I'm just wondering how they run so smoothly; I've always been under the impression that you can't do anything even remotely graphics-intensive in Java. What libraries are you using that make this possible?
The various Java 3D libraries out there simply call out to OpenGL or Direct3D. So why are you surprised? Java compiles processor intensive routines down to native code. What you see in this video is running as native Direct3D or OpenGL code.
Java3D, JMonkeyEngine, jogl, etc. are all more than capable of this kind of performance.
Please lose your "Java is slow" stereotype". Aside from this 3D performance you see here, the control software for the Mars rovers is also written in Java.
Update your knowledge, you can do more graphics with Java than any other language (not including the ridiculous effects and possibilities of DirectX). Java is being used more and more in about everything we have nowadays.
C++ is the greatest for professional games but for indie games as a c++ programmer id have to say Java because of simplicity and the ability to use it from your browser (although I've never used Java only C++)
Well, C++ provides the greatest performance advantage at the hard edge of game performance. However, most PC games made today could be developed completely in modern Java and perform just as well. Just don't build the Crysis engine in it :)
While C++ has more "raw power" Java is a lot easier to program multi-core with. It's hard to say how things will go in the future. One day I hope that we will have a language that adds the ease of Python with C++ power and a (very) easy way to do threads...
i recommend anyone who wants to learn programming should start with java or c# since they are similar to each other.after you know one of them u pretty much knows most of the stuff in c++ since the 3 of them have similar syntax
Java, is much more easier to learn than C++, Java programmer's are more productive than C++ programmers, Java has a giant library,so instead learning API and OS programming you are learning a language.
Any advice on the 3D and physics library's that were used? Notably, some of the games sync at the full frame rate: I don't know, is this standard for FSE mode or do you need a separate layer?
If some of you are interested in a good begining for Java 3D games programming, take a look at JMonkeyEngine (JME), its a 3D games engine and a few of these games were made in this.
Its very simple too, much simpler than using (the now defunked i think) Java3D API.
The only game shown here that did not use Java on the rendering side was the Chrome game. The game engine, logic, etc. was all written in Java. They used thie own OGL rendering layer. Everything else in the video was written 100% in Java.
Nice and I love the music.

If there would be C++ demo reel then games would be like crysis, source engine games: L4D2, Portal, Half life 2, and much more... lol
pufixas 4 months ago
@pufixas And these are games that are 6 & 7 years old as of now. So what was your point? L4D2 in 2005 when this was made? Really?

@cRIPticon
Crysis 2, L4D2, Portal 2, Modern Warfare, Black Ops, GTA San andreas, GTA 4....
Is that enough?
