i love this cooler installed it yesterday does pretty good cooling my920 at 3400mhz ? though the spring loaded screws how far do u tighten them their pretty tight they dont bootom out right
@asus3571 hey i just got 1 of these and i have a big problem with it,when i stand the case vertically the heatsink gets loose and tilts downwards, the only thing that keeps it in place is 1 central bar,but because this is held in by springs the weight pressure tilts the heatsink at an angle, please tell me what i am doing wrong, the instruction page was not so good,i have an asus rampage mobo and 1.7 cpu
@DuckingNDiving screws are tight right i bet its not the base of the heatsink flexing i noticed when i handled mine the two dif towers were flexiit prob an optical allusion just the one tower is bending if u temps are good not a prob could be the mobo flexing the asus mobo's ive used seem to flex a lot (what u temps)???
@asus3571 i can see from these videos that i put the heatsink in wrong posistion, the 2 sinks on the Megahalem were vertically alligned instead of horizionatally alligned when the tower is mounted upright, this allignment puts more pressure on the springs,so thats why its hanging,i will try it the other way soon,i hope this solves it,i'm new at this LOL,i did get some temp wires with mobo,do i put one directtly onto touching the cpu to measure its heat?or will close enough do?
@asus3571 thx for the tips, but my heatsink is driving me nuts,no matter what posistion i put it in,horizontal or vertically alligned whenever i stand my mobo up the heat sink tilts outwards and downwards by a few degrees, maybe i got sold a faulty one,all the reviews i read were good, now i will have to send it back,i will try the heatsink that came with the i.7,but i wonder if this will be good for 2 graphics cards
hey bro i just got one of these today open box for 35 bones rev b all the pieces per the parts list is there but i dont have a seperate backplate for 1366 but it states 1366 support on the box is my particular cpu cooler universal as far as the cpu retention bracket
zalman super thermal grease rocks! i've been using it for a long time and i dont ever wanna go back to those thermal pastes inside the syringe, i love the brush that zalman stg comes with - perfect for applying thermal paste :D
@TheXxxLoganxxX at 22°C ambient temp. i have idle temps of 35-40....full load same ambient temperature about 65-70°C(push pull config + antec 1200 case) ;P....basicly a good cooler ;P...oh yeah i7 930 on 4.0 ghz that is ;)
Comparing it to the Xigmatek Dark Knight with that stock fan vs. Megahalems with two 3000RPM 38mm fans doesn't really inform me of much. You should test it with that Xigmatek fan for a direct comparison.
you wanna have as much light as possible, because it removes the gain from the video, and it also helps to keep the camera in focus... otherwise nice review!
Good review, but don't try to be exactly like 3Dgameman. Be yourself, and come up with your own ideas. If you need a beat, or a simple song. I can create one for you :)
If you are gonna make more reviews tho, which I encourage you to do! :)
A song, or simple beat is very good because it makes people more comfortable wathcing the reviews. and people recognize the music which also ties them to keep watching your reviews.
Do you suggest vertical or horizontal installation for best airflow( I have an antec 1200 case)? Also did you atatch both fans to the motherboard or one to the cpu port?
I appreciate him showing how to install it. I was a little nervous with a bowed base, I wondered how much pressure to apply on that center bracket that covers over the CPU and pushes the base of the heatsink on it. You can order 38 mm fan brackets, and you can order AM2+/AM3+ brackets. It depends on the site you go to, others mention you should buy additional fans. Depends on where you go, you should realize this is just a big hunk of metal with fins when you're getting it. But for 15 degree +/-
So your taking off a point in your review because the manufacturer made it for 775 and 1366 socket types and doesn't cater to every Joe blows needs...you're joking right?
Good point you have there but to be honest my rating don't mean shit. It was a my first review and it was shitty, its a work in progress but if I look back on it now id give it a 9/10 since it is a badass heatsink and its basically the best you can get.
Hey Greg i sent you a youtube mail regarding your zip ties, im planning on getting the same set up but im confused as to how you accomplished it with the zip ties. Please do write back :)
I soposse your talking about the ringing noise. That is my shitty kodak zi6. Has a really shitty microphone. It gets even worse when I zoom in. I've almost considered doing a voice over on my laptop while recordering to get better sound.
I've already removed the fan, I heard that other smilodon users have managed to fit the monstrous V8 heatsink in that case so I'll keep my fingers crossed !
I dont know why you took off 2 points... it clearly states the dimensions the HSF is designed for... 125.125.25mm not 38mm!!! I would take off 1 for not including 2 sets of fan retainers... overall not a bad review but check ur facts on the product first.
No that is why I took off points. For example if the box said this cooler sucks and it did I would give it a 10/10?
I just wanted to give my opinion. 8.10 is a very good rating it took off the two because for the value they could give you another fan and include 38mm fan clips since they are commonly used on high performance heatsinks. Also the included mounting hardware is very limited to the lga 775 and 1366...
just a bit of info, all your comments are still valid, but you can buy AMD mounting gear as well as extra 25mm/38mm clips separately, also, I've found performance to peak at lower rpm or at least its cooling efficiency; especially where noise is a concern.
Yeah I was going to that but I had already given my dark knight to my older brother and I only wanted to do one installation. I took the second kaze out as it was wayyyy to loud. Also I failed to mention, I did use zalman thermal grease not as5 like I had with the dk. But for me overall at 4ghz my dk was hitting 85-86 max load on prime but when I switched to the megahalems it was down to 70 but when I took off the second fan its up to 73-74.
lol, fans blowing "through the fins" how else can you mount the fan? lol

Can this be run in passive mode? ie.. no fans?

how many clips does it bings ?

you forgot to mention that the base is convexed, so it gets more than excellent conductivity with the CPU

StylusEcho18 1 year ago
@StylusEcho18 Depends on the motherboard.
Its going to be tight. If your using a 38mm fan then it probably wont but a 25mm might make it. If it doesnt fit just set your fan to a pull config.

nitroburn289g 2 years ago
Vertical or horizontal it wont make much of a difference in an antec 1200
And it doesn't really matter which one you plug it into if you disable fan control from the bios.
grpace 2 years ago
@nitroburn289g i went for front to back airflow, as the graphics card would restrict it with 2 fans in my setup
