im here right now im mecca al hamdulilah and personally i think this needs to be done in order to stop muslims from wanting to go to the west and want to live there. Allah blessed this land with wealth through OIL. So why shouldnt the king improve the facilities for pilgrims. this land will always be protected until Allah wants otherwise. here is some projects undergoing and costs Aljamarate bridge costs over$1B which helped pilgrims alot, metro $1.77b which is operated only 7 days a year, Alharam expansion $40B, High Rail projected $7.5B, new Airport $7.3B, medical facilities $9B. how can Saudi generate income from those project except the rail? not to mention that there are no taxeswhatsoever in saudi arabia and the buildings around the Alharam many of them are endowments for The holy mosque including the clock towers

We should preserve it in the form it was as IBRAHIM (as) built it, which was the loveliest form for Allah. Stop saying it traditional, it was the most beautiful to Allah as hazrat Ibrahim (as) built it with his own hands.
@Esam662 u know that the Kaaba was already destroyed and rebuilt right? one of them is during the battles of the caliphate, and Mecca has always changed to accommodate pilgrams since days of Jahelia. Fitting 4 million pilgrams in Kaaba is becoming very hard even today, with people dieing of suffocation, ask someone whose been to Hajj recently, the experience was probably made less pleasant and Khosho'u was harder because of the lack of space, the only miracle is the current expansions.

I think that rockstarrocket makes a very intereting point about the clash between the traditional look of the old architecture with this new modern look. It is 2 different design styles.
...the extension is built behind it. This circular or round design is reminiscient of the Round City that was supposedly built a few hundred years ago by Al Mansur in Baghdad.
A couple of other things that I observed is that indeed the proposed doors do dwarf the Kaaba and seem to be the same, if not, taller the the Ottoman arcades that they proposed that they should remove...thus, when the doors are closed the obstruct the view of the Kaaba more than the Ottoman arcades. This negates their rationale for removing the Ottoman arcades because the doors will block the view as well...I think that it would be a good idea only if the current Haram is left intact and...
1) Why to erect so many concrete elements at a place where there are always millions of people?
2) Steps like levels in vaulted tunnels? A person falling during prayer could cause chain reaction.
3) God forbid, if one concrete element would fail on either side (because of whatever reason) could cause chain reaction here too and could result in crushing millions of people.
4) Safety is the real concern for the years to come and for millions of people.
Its one thing to give water to the Hajji's walking to and from Mina to Jamarah...
but its something else when you start developing structures to benefit the 'Rich' visitors, who feel they don't have to sit and walk in the footsteps of the
Sahaba's.
Sadly, this may soon become a 'playground' for the super rich ...

Great Scholars of Muslims have been consulted on the matter. for the records, this is NOT the original plan just a porposed design by ATKINS but not accepted. the design is undergoing now is no difference than the existence one as traditional Islamic Architecture and been designed by King Saud University in Saudi Arabia.

The money of Saudis spent there generously not to mention that through the history, taxes had been imposed on pilgrims who wanted to perform hajj or omrah until SA formed hundreds of years ago. BTW, this is NOT the original plan for ALHARAM, the real one is a traditional as the existent one.

@KhanioProductions remember that since the Prophet Mohammed, the holy mosque was surrounded by shops and people come from all over and trade goods and if you look at the history you will see it. there are 1.5 billion muslims in the world, each mush if able to perform hajj once in their life, do some math if only 2 millions can perform hajj it will takes 750 years for those people to get the opportunity and all governments in the world demand an increase in the Hajj quota so what is your solution

@KhanioProductions the Saudi government have a program to help increase the capacity of the two holy sites by expand the holy sites, develop all logistics such as doubling the housing units, implement smart transportation system such as metro, high rail system to allows efficient operations, modernize the medical facilities to serve the growing demand and number of people, and increase security measures, double the electricity, water and food supply. this is not an easy task but we'll do it

here is some projects undergoing and costs Aljamarate bridge costs over$1B which helped pilgrims alot, metro $1.77b which is operated only 7 days a year, Alharam expansion $40B, High Rail projected $7.5B, new Airport $7.3B, medical facilities $9B. how can Saudi generate income from those project except the rail? not to mention that there are no taxeswhatsoever in saudi arabia and the buildings around the Alharam many of them are endowments for The holy mosque including the clock towers

عموما التصميم المعتمد لا يختلف كثيرا عن المبنى القائم وقام بتصميمه جامعة الملك سعود.

We should preserve it in the form it was as IBRAHIM (as) built it, which was the loveliest form for Allah. @Esam662 u know that the Kaaba was already destroyed and rebuilt right? one of them is during the battles of the caliphate, and Mecca has always changed to accommodate pilgrams since days of Jahelia. Fitting 4 million pilgrams in Kaaba is becoming very hard even today, with people dieing of suffocation, ask someone whose been to Hajj recently, the experience was probably made less pleasant and Khosho'u was harder because of the lack of space, the only miracle is the current expansions.

I think that rockstarrocket makes a very intereting point about the clash between the traditional look of the old architecture with this new modern look. It is 2 different design styles.

...the extension is built behind it. This circular or round design is reminiscient of the Round City that was supposedly built a few hundred years ago by Al Mansur in Baghdad.

A couple of other things that I observed is that indeed the proposed doors do dwarf the Kaaba and seem to be the same, if not, taller the the Ottoman arcades that they proposed that they should remove...thus, when the doors are closed the obstruct the view of the Kaaba more than the Ottoman arcades. This negates their rationale for removing the Ottoman arcades because the doors will block the view as well...I think that it would be a good idea only if the current Haram is left intact and...

There are flaws in this design scheme, i.e.
1) Why to erect so many concrete elements at a place where there are always millions of people?
2) Steps like levels in vaulted tunnels? A person falling during prayer could cause chain reaction.
3) God forbid, if one concrete element would fail on either side (because of whatever reason) could cause chain reaction here too and could result in crushing millions of people.
4) Safety is the real concern for the years to come and for millions of people.

Its one thing to give water to the Hajji's walking to and from Mina to Jamarah...
but its something else when you start developing structures to benefit the 'Rich' visitors, who feel they don't have to sit and walk in the footsteps of the
Sahaba's.

im no architect but it seems a bit bogus, like those doors they completely dwarf the kaba, do they need to be so big? also the 'prayer halls' seem dangerous with escalators-crowd crushes, suicide numbers will be up :) dont even get me started on the removal of the ottoman arcade...
