Palin's type of feminism has to do with making people with vaginas equal in the public realm. It has nothing to do with the full flourishing of women's lives, something that includes autonomy, freedom, choice, independence and such. Eminently unqualified for the national and international stag as well as unfit for office, Palin is very dangerous for women and for America. (And how is she going to deal with world leaders when she can't even deal with the women from The View?)
It's not a lie. Palin is on record. That IS her stance. McCain has used the term "activist judges" - R.N.C. code for any judge that supports Roe v. Wade - more times than I can count. Sarah Palin's must not have access to the Executive Branch. If you think charismatic evangelicals and neopentacostalists give two shits about a Supreme Court ruling if it contradicts their "lifestyle" - which, it goes without saying ought to be your life style - think again. GREAT video clip. Kudos.
Wake up and be afraid...or, if you are so inclined, be satisfied that women in the US are living with some of the worst legal protections in the world (and not just the developed world).
The question we MUST keep in mind is this: do we give the government the power to make this kind of decision? If we give the government the power to tell us we can't have abortions, we give it the power to tell us we must have abortions. Look at China: the law is one family/one child, and any other pregnancy must be terminated. Keep this decision in the hands of the individual, and let her turn to her family, her church and her own moral compass to find guidance for this difficult decision.
Scary that it has to be said, but this was well said. Better than 80 percent of Americans believe that, in the case of rape or incest, a woman's reproductive choice should remain legal. But not Sarah Palin, who "wouldn't blink" to be the leader of this country.
Great video. But Obama should get off his ass and make this point, too. Or at least move over and let the 527s work their magic. Some say he is already doing that. Let's hope so. I thought Biden was a good choice, but it seemed to open the door for McCain to pull a political stunt and have that wacko as his VP. Now all the PUMAs are flushing away their self-interest and rewarding Republican cynicism.
Read the party platform. Read what Governor Palin has said. Take a look at the current Supreme Court. Listen to what John McCain has said about the kind of justices he would appoint to the court. All we can do is take these folks at their word. And their words justify the gravest concern.
This man, and the evil pig behind him (Rove), will finish off this country. I mean, hell, what are McCain's plans, other then assuming power? He is drunk with political desire but it will be America that gets the hangover.
LIES. This is just another scare tactic. Like roe v. wade will EVER be overturned. Even if it was, the choice would then go to the states. Stop the lying and the manipulation with fear.
Have you noticed the appointment of Alito and Roberts? Have you witnessed how the Supreme Court has turned into an activist conservative court hiding behind the guise of being constitutionalists? Presently, there is a thin balance, but the next president will appoint the next one or two judges. Don't be so naive as to think Roe V Wade won't be overturned, it already is being, little by little. Read what Palin has said and remember to whom McCain is pandering. It can happen.
Ummm...most rape victims in the US have at best tenuous access to pregnancy prevention/termination procedures at best. Roe v. Wade is important because it protects a woman's right to PRIVACY in making reproductive health decisions. Access is another issue. The most recent data shows that 88% of all U.S. counties have no identifiable abortion provider. In non-metropolitan areas, the figure rises to 97%. As a result, many women must travel long distances to reach the nearest abortion provider.
