Great job with the videos. I am starting a chess club at our school and most of our players are un-experienced. Discussing strategy at all points in the games really helps us. Thanks again! (Post more videos!)
hey...awesome site..please keep this up..I have one question..i was initially interested in chess and climbed up from 900 to 1400 on FICS using all this knowledge..but my development seems to have come to a stand-still..what does one do in the middle game when everything looks balanced and I don't know what to do?(all my opponent's pieces are well protected,my pieces are well developed,etc..)
Honestly, if you made a video on how not to blunder, I'd probably be a GM... That's how many times I do it lol. Can't count the times I've lost my queen and resigned to a stupid mistake.
this is a very useful vid kevin! never really understood why the f7 is a weakness, now i understand it a lot better. looking forward to more vids like this :)
@babaikaushik The thing to remember though is that even if you attacking the f7 square by itself doesnt work, many times if you have another attack going on, its tough for good players to defend multiple attacks. The more attacks you can develop and launch in your own chess game, the better off you will be.
seems another great video! please learn me defending against the fianchetto opening! i have problem defending against two bishop that are fiancehtooed in the begining!
I read a lot of introductory chess books, and they all talked in length about the end game, which is fine, and about opening principles, which also is fine, but gave little to no advice for the mid game. I'm quite a low-level chess player and have never heard before of things like weak fields (such as f3).
also the classic bishop c4 - queen f3 mate at once if you're playing someone who's really not careful enough.. if he tries something silly like attacking the queen with his bishop or just didn't bother defending the f7 pawn. thanks for the tips and will be w8ing for more.
Hey great vids. I am starting to get back into chess and I wanted to give a suggestion for future casts. I play another game called starcraft, you might've heard of it, but what people do for that game is cast a replay of a game that's already played. They go and commentate on what people do during that game and what OTHER things they could've done and what not, kind of like a sports commentary. I think that would be helpful.
you should make some more full GM game videos, theyre really great, especially when you shed some insight on the specific moves and their implications.
What's a free chess download for my Blackberry so I can learn more???
53smitty 4 months ago
@53smitty There's a chess game called Kasparov chess deluxe, you can google it.
It has many difficulties, if you pick expert, it's like you're playing with kasparov himself xD, I have the game and i never win on expert.

what are the reasons making f7 a vulnerable square(i'm new to chess)?
TheIkarus93 7 months ago
@TheIkarus93 Only the king defends the square, so if you have a secured piece on f7 black can't do anything about it.

i love the openings and endgame, it shows chess in a very fundamental way- middlegame is just sick shit

Kevin, this is really widespread attack. And thank you for your work, I'm getting strong with that.
I've got tons of pain and sore while playing AGAINST this "Attacking f7"
Could you please give advise for us, or better it would be a TRAP against that.
Thank you very much.

why would you be up a pawn at 6:30? Could´n he move queen to C8? (i´m a noob btw)
jbangj 1 year ago
@jbangj Then take the pawn at f7

I often attack f7 in my games, but after black has castled I rarely get through.

Another option at 6:00 is
...1Bxf7 Kxf7
2Ng5+ Ke8
3Qxg4

@blahbiblah1 Why Ke8 and not Qxg5?

Do you really want to leave your king vulnerable at 7:35? From a defensive standpoint, it seems unsound. Would this be preferable for a speed game?

I like the emphasis on individual squares. I so rarely think of the game in that way and it's obviously important. Nice vid!
