It is very strange that Jeff Lynne has never made a Christmas song for ELO to present. Or maybe an album ! Perfect timing for an ELO Xmas album would have been in November 1978 to release.
Wow! I remember this like it was yesterday! I travelled from Nova Scotia to Buffalo NY in October 1981 to see the Time tour. It was the most awesome experience of my life.
Wow! I remember this like it was yesterday! I travelled from Nova Scotia to Buffalo NY in October 1981 to see the Time tour. It was the most awesome experience of my life.
The concert was on Feb 14, 1982. It was the Time tour. They played all the songs from the album, along with a lot of their previous stuff. Great concert!!
This brings back wonderful memories. The Lennon tribute was about halfway through the show after a short break, and blew everyone away. My wife and I were at the concert at the Frankfurt Festhalle that is on the ticket stub at the beginning of this video. We sat in the Innenraum Section, seats 1515 and1516, We still have our ticket stubs, the concert program, and the tour t-shirt bought that night. This was the greatest concert we have ever been to, w/great sound. Thanks for posting this jena4.
@lovencare62 I think his actual comment was "son of the walrus" - I have it on tape somewhere... then he mentioned one of his favorite songs was ELO's "Showdown"... he was very complimentary...
For all who doesn´t know. John Lennon said in the mid 70´s that ELO were one of his favorite Bands. So Jeff Lynne get not even a Beatles Fan (worked later with George and Paul) and his music sounds a little "Beatlish": Rock on Jeff
When Lynne's voice catches at 5:06, I don't know whether it was the result of emotion or a hiccup, but considering the context it almost had me in tears myself.
Fabulous! I'd forgot about this, I had it on a crappy bootleg casette I bought at a record fair, but this is miles better. Thanks for uploading, much appreciated!
Wow! I always remember hearing this at the NEC in Birmingham on the Time Tour. We went twice because we had the worst snow ever on the night of the first show and ELO put on an additional concert a few days later at half price for those that couldn't make it the first night! Never thought I'd hear this again. Thanks.
As a Beatle MANIAC I can say that Jeff Lynnes voice doesnt sound that much like Johns... but Jeff if my second favourite artist(after John) so of course, he did a pretty awesome job... good vid!
WOAH JEFF WITH NO MUSTACHE!?!? I didn't think that could happen!

exactly like John Lennon.

5:05 when Jeff sings "He didn't notice that the lights had changed" it sounds like he's crying. :(
There are a few other times, but that one is the most noticeable.

lovencare62, do you know when/where he said that the ELO was The Beatles' son?

He did! When he was guest DJ'ing on an American Radio show just before introducing ''Showdown'' in 1974 I think it was

Jeff once remarked that 21st Century man from the Time album was a kind of dedication to John Lennon.

The Beatles has influenced the whole career
of Jeff Lynne. ELO´s Mister Kingdom is
very similar to Beatles´ Across the Universe
in some places !
FinnMove 3 years ago
Agreed! And Telephone Line is very like How, Mr Blue Sky like A Day in the Life, etc, etc! But it's all great! ELO were the Beatles of the 70s!
