Uncharted 2 was the clear runaway winner. I was actually looking out my window a couple of times wondering if all those sounds were from this game or real life. I'm guessing the people claiming Uncharted 2 didn't deserve to win don't haven't been listening to it with something like the 7.1 LPCM sound setup I have. The uncompressed audio quality is truly remarkable. I haven't heard anything even on PC that surpasses it.

You're confusing music with sound design. They are very different things. Guitar Hero or Rockband or Brutal Legend or whatever clearly have good music, but that doesn't automatically mean that the sound technicians did a good job with the game.

Yes of course - however the desinger cannot control the quality of the actual composition, How clear and crisp and balanced the music is, is all you can count when considering sound design awards. Perhaps that's all you meant, and I misunderstood you. If you are (as I thought you were) including actual music itself, then you are mistaken to be doing so. Saying that Brutal Legends is based around music is irrelevent.

@jejeroyetompson Singular is right. I am a sound designer, and my job involves sound effects, ambience and voice overs. Music can be coordinated by the senior sound designer, but very rarely is it produced by the same person. All of these games had excellent sound design, but some were implemented (placed and programmed) better than others. I do find it ironic how they say 'Brutal Legend' and then simply blare some heavy metal. Typical.

Of course the games with the best music were completely left out. I don't know why Borderlands or Left 4 Dead 2 were in there. I have both, and the sound did not stand out at all to me. Halo 3: ODST and Assassin's Creed II had by far the most transporting music of any game I have ever played.

Infinity ward records the gunsounds for the game, they even record how it sounds in diffrent angles and diffrent distances, when dice edits their sound to make them sound more realistic, while IW leaves them pretty natrual. If you do think cod sounds are crappy buy a better sound system
