He best said it during his acceptance speech- "YOU ARE THE CHANGE THAT YOU DREAM, AS I AM THE CHANGE THAT I DREAM; AND COLLECTIVELY, WE ARE THE CHANGE THAT THIS WORLD NEEDS TO BE."

That gave me gooooosebumps, and made me teary-eyed. It reminds me of my own trials, and reminds me to continue to do good - and better.

AND it takes individuals like Efren to want to yank himself out of that hole so that his future children would have it BETTER than he's had...I think that's every good parent's dream... and THAT IS STARTING FROM WITHIN... and when Efren was in a better place, he reached out to help the kids find a better path for themselves so they can be where he's at as well. He chose not to just better himself, but to SERVE others above himself. AND SERVED WELL, he did!

I agree that overpopulation is the root cause of poverty..... lack of education about effective population control...which can be linked to our poor government system. It's sad, but it's true.

But should the children suffer this ill-fated destiny? Do they have a choice NOT to be born into this situation? Should they pay the price for their parents' same misfortune of being poor? We shouldn't condemn the innocent, the cycle just needs to be broken.

Efren and company, I salute you! I think you and the rest of your fellow volunteers knew you guys were heroes even before you received CNN's honor! It was just then made known to the rest of the world!

It's a time to rejoice and to be glad for our fellowmen... but i can't help but to feel sorry for some people who just don't get the meaning of "STARTING CHANGE FROM WITHIN." Instead of leaving negative comments, we can think of PROACTIVE ways to make a difference.
