It wasn't as good, frankly. Bill the Butcher is the reason the film is worth seeing. When he's not on the screen, the film is completely average.

@gangstasmurf06 Well, I don't think Cameron Diaz is much of a good actress, but Di Caprio seems to be good too, it's not by chance that Scorcese has worked with him at least 4 times.

But I got to admit there is something lacking on the movie itself, specially the editing, the final touches (lots of them),

Part of my family is descended from Germans and I hate the concept that Germans are innately evil.

Scorsese makes two films about the Irish, Gangs of New York and The Departed and suddenly all those Italian films are 'washed away'. To him at least. ;)
