i think the double skins are 2 thinner to medium thin skins. they seem to have more snap then a single thicker skin...but the single thicker skin would most likely have more of a mellow haunting sound
the double skin was able to be bent slightly for tonal playing
very nice. I like how you can see what you hand is doing behind the skin. It is interesting the tone the double skin gives. I wonder if the same result mught be achieved with a thicker hide?
Wonderful to watch you play, I am just selling a RT deep rim tuneable on E bay, it's a bit on the neavy side for me, and I am looking at buying a replacement. Can you recommend single or double skin? tuneable or not? thanks
this double skin had been played in. it recorded very well although it didnt have a lot of prescence live. has a mellow thicker sound but has lots of snap. i favor a more tonal approach so prefer the thinner single skins. its all what you want to hear and what you like.
how do you like the brendan white double skin as opposed to a single skin bodhran. i bought a BW double skin for my first bodhran and am eager to expand my collection.
thanks for the comments. I've been playing for about 5 years. i started with a non tunable drum and the Tommy Hayes and then Stefan Hannigan instructional videos. I then took some lessons at the local school of folk music, then attended a workshop by John Joe Kelly from Flook...which really had the most impact on the style that i use now.
i really like this also.. i notice you seem to be using what looks like a larger than normal 'chopstick' ? i'm going to try to find something similar and see if my < ultra cheap and not too great sounding bodhran> sounds any better:-)
hi.. not sure which BW model it is as it was a friend of mines that I borrowed. dark finish...red band...it probaly was 40cm /16 inches...as i have a 14" metloef and an 18' drum as well and size wise it fell between. i borrowed another BW from another friend of well...its on my youtube page somewhere
hello brendan i,ve been practicing your sty;le it's comming slowly. I wonder where i could get a tipper like the one you use the very thin one thank again for your vids Jeff Cave J

hi, i'm thinking of ordering a 14 or 16 inch bodhran from brendan white. Do you have any advice or either? and I might get a double skin. Ay advice?
NYyankee02 2 years ago
diameter is a personal preference
there is a BIG difference in a 14" drum vs a 16" drum
i have a 14x4 from albert alfonso
a 15.5x6 from Darius Bartlett
and a 15x6 from Diarmaid Okane
ive played some friends 16x6 double skin Brendan White drums. For me, they are a little too big but nice sounding drums
My advice would be see if you can find some different sized drums to check out before buying if you are trying to decide between 14 or 16

That was fantastic. I even recognized the Riverdance part at 3:00 thru 4:00. You're the "John Bonham" of the Bodhran!
The "Bodrhizzle For Shizzle! I really enjoyed your technique.

Nice sound, I play a 16 inch Brendan White single skin which I bought about 15 years? ago.
I don't play much anymore as I live in The Drome in France and there are no sessions to join here.
