I'm all for preserving our environment, but we're going about it all wrong. We should be utilizing technology, creating new sources of energy that require minimal resources. I'm no Harper fan, but he's better than the alternative(s).

Harper has made small strides for providing individuals with tax breaks for making their homes more energy efficient. But the vast majority of our pollution comes from industry which he has dragged his feet and undone many steps that had been taken before. Plus the expense for retrofitting a home to be energy efficient even with his tax cuts are still only available to the wealthy.

Some people are very ignorant. I am not saying I like Harper but he has been making great strides towards renewable energies and the environment. There are so many ways to get subsidies from the government for renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Maybe the reason he didn't go to this meeting is that the people meeting their will only say they want more renewable energies to look good then go back to their countries and do the exact opposite. Obama anyone?

Actually Harper was almost a climate change denier until Obama took office. Now he says he will follow the US's lead on climate change legislation. That's right we don't have a leader in Harper...we have a follower. Obama hasn't enacted any policies that 'do the exact opposite' of addressing climate change. Harper on the other hand has tried to block any progress on the international stage towards progress on climate change policy in the spirit of GWB.
