We have subsidized the achievement of bringing inexpensive at marginally nutritious foodstuffs to the American table; this may have assisted in war against domestic poverty and starvation. However, it is still our personal responsibility to balance our diets to make sure that the efforts of our leadership are not a contributor to epidemic proportions of unhealthy eating.
Working for CA PIRG is a scam, straight up! Avoid working for them at all costs! They prey on idealistic college students and spam craigslist preying on gullible people with promises of jobs and good causes but, in reality, canvassers work there for 70-80hour work weeks; less than minimum wage and bounced paychecks. They also like union busting.
Bravo! Thank you for this contribution. It is definitely more and more expensive to eat nutrient dense, healthy foods. I will promote this video and the website!
how about we stop subsidies all together? might as well throw in Bailouts and Federal loans, and add term limits, In fact tell congress to amend the constitution, with limited terms on the federal and state level, and another constitutional amendment against subsidies, loans, and bailouts, that will end lobbying.
The money that's being "wasted" on unhealthy foods (to be more specific, being used to make the American public unhealthy to line a very few farmers' pockets), could be used not only to make organic food more readily available, but to make it more affordable!
how about using some of that tax money to help make organic food available? I live in an area where if im lucky I can get about 20% of my food Organic. Its hard to find. but their is never a lack of moutain dew and twinkies.
Few Americans understand that Congress subsidizes the main ingredients in junk food by tens of billions of taxpayer dollars per year. Meanwhile, the cost of fruits and vegetables has radically risen. Now 1 in 3 kids in CA are overweight or obese. Go to calpirg.org to say NO to your reps in Congress.
Someones a fat fuck that's willing to pay higher taxes to stay that way. (1 dislike)

"Big companies" and subsidized corn and soy also means genetically modified food. This has to stop.

@DavenAlexis genetically modified food can be beneficial.
